Yanks win while Sox and Rays fall. Magic number is 4.

Tampa down 1 in the loss column to Sox. ACamp's Angels are down 3 to the Sox for the WC and 5 to Texas for AL West Flag.

NY's games will determine the outcome. They have two at home with TB Wed & Thurs. Then 3 Fri, Sat, Sun at home with the Sox. Close with 3 night games in TB Mon, Tues, Wed.

The ALCS doesn't start until Oct 8th so everybody can use their best pitchers through the final game on the 26th and still have them rested for the playoffs.

Uuuuuuuugggggggggghhhhhhhhh.

Sox had a lead in the 8th and threw the game away. As bad as the starting pitching has been the last three weeks, the thing that is really killing us is the collapse of Daniel Bard. Goes to show how valuable he was the first five months of the season. He has been awful since September though.

Strange season. Boston give the East a 6 game advantage out of the game. Own the Yankees all season. NY struggles with injuries early and often. Then Sox fall to injuries. TB wasn't supposed to have a chance but now will be in the mix for the final games.

What a surprise this season has been. If you woulda told me in April that the Yankees would have a 6 game lead in the division with this pitching staff and A-Rod missing as much time as he had i woulda told ya you were nuts.

Actually, they still have 3 @ home w/ TB. There is a day/night double header today w/ Sabathia going for win #20 tonight on ESPN. Then of course the last game of this series tomorrow. Magic number is down to 3 for another AL East title for the Yanks!

I'm so confused and torn the past couple days. I want the Yankees to win, but I want the Boston to be playing golf in October...which means I want the Rays to win...So confused

Yes they do thank you!

ND took the first of the doubleheader with a using nothing but relief pitchers to fill in for a hurting Hughes. Magic Number is 2. Orioles again with the 8th inning thunder, up 6-4 over Sox with an inning to go. Sabathia and a patchwork Yankee lineup leading 2-1 bottom 6th. If those scored hold all that's left is who hangs on over the final 7 days to claim the wildcard. Angels up 7-1 bottom of the 9th, cute BeeGees, "Stayin' Alive!"

Jeter banged out a couple of hits in the opener, .298. Trails Winfield by 26. Jeter sitting out the nightcap.

I freaking love Joe Maddon, what he has done for the Rays is nothing short of a miracle. He took the worst team in baseball and put them in the World Series. Then last year payroll was drastically cut and several vital players we're lost, and were still competing with the Yanks and Sox in the toughest division in baseball.

Can anyone think in recent memory a manager that has done more with less?

Now that I'm done playing I've become a Yankees fan. This was a good day-they are a real professional group-Manager has done a great job and is a good man. This next week I'll be on the Major League Baseball channel every night-great coverage with there bouncing to all games. Sept/Oct are my favorite sports months with the MLB playouts and of course Notre Dame cranking it up. I would be cautious of Tampa if they make the playouts-they may have the best manager in the game.

Now the real magic number is 11.

My eyes are glued on the Tigers. They need to win some games or the Yanks might face them in the divisional round. Verlander twice in a 5 game series would be a nightmare.

No kidding, praying we don't get them first round. It's nice to get it wrapped up so the club can get a game plan going in and figure out how they want to set things up. It will be interesting to see if Jorge and Burnett make the playoff rosters. It will be very interesting to see how they set their rotation also. Haven't really read anything on it yet, but you'd have to imagine they'd throw CC twice (if needed) correct?! That would leave 3 spots for Hughes(said he should be ready by Sunday), Nova, Colon, Garcia, Brunett.

I'm hoping Jesus makes it too, like what i've seen from him!

Would love to see Jorge on the roster in a pinch hitting role.

The team will know a lot more about the catcher situation Friday when Cervelli's post concussion symptoms are evaluated on Friday. If he's out it's going to be Romine/Montero (possibly both) backing up Martin (I'm also hoping Montero makes the cut).

Can't see how AJ could make the postseason roster (Huge Caveat- I have no idea...also had no idea how he is still in the rotation. As unjustifiable him making it seems to me he may just be left out of the division series rotation but make the PS roster). I have a feeling that Girardi won't say a word until he absolutely has to in regards to AJ.

I think the Yanks best rotation scenario is CC, Nova, Garcia, Hughes (IF his back is OK) with Bartolo in the long relief role.

As a Sox fan, I have been absolutely sick to my stomach for two reasons: 1) this team has played the worst baseball over the last month that I have ever seen from a contending team; 2) I have been pulling *hard* for the Yankees to win these past few days, and that is just unnatural.
Thankfully I can reconnect with my hatred for the Yanks starting tomorrow night, as I'm going to the game in the Bronx. If Lester can't win one for the Sox against a team that has nothing to play for, I'll be close to giving up hope for the season.
