I swear to God if you let posters on this board make a schedule it would look something like:

Michigan
Boston College
@Florida State
@Miami
Texas (in Cowboys Stadium)
New England Patriots (in London)
@Virginia Tech (night game)
Stanford
Navy (in Pacific Ocean [game played on super carriers lashed together])
@USC
NFC Pro Bowl Squad (space football... played on the moon or international space station)

And then you all would complain about not going undefeated against a schedule that only had 4 true road games.

You guys are crazy. Name me any other team with as minimal travel as Purdue that can also be used as a quasi tune up game that is also a BCS conference team that we have history with. Oh yeah there aren't any. This is the ideal early season home-and-home opponent for us.

This x100. Plus they've only beaten us once in the last eight years, and it was in 2007 when some of us probably could have started for ND.

They're the closest thing to a respectable tune-up game that we have, and I'm sure the rivalry means something to people in Indiana.

I don't agree with this. I wouldn't want to replace them with a harder team.

Notre Dame's scheduling is going to get more difficult going into the future and I'd like some variety for September. Going through the Big Ten as a "tune up" isn't ideal in my opinion.

I lol'd at Patriots in London, but you don't need more than one carrier for a football field. But being tackled on non-skid would suuuuuuuck.

Well, well, well. Look at the history of this rivalry and compare it with others. While ND has won more than they've lost, Purdue has had its way at times and lost some in squeakers.

West Lafayette is an easy drive or hitch hike (if you can avoid getting dropped off in Delphi, IN) in either direction.

Delve into winning streaks with other "rivaries." The fortunes of any college program, including our own (DUH!), rise and fall over time. Bob Griese put ND "in its place" three consecutive years. Look at the streaks between ND and USC. Should the Irish or the Trojans have jettisoned the rivalry when it was one-sided?

It was gratifying to be at ND when The Irish re-asserted their dominance over The Boilermakers, but it was far from a permanent condition. There's that whole "learn from history," "What goes around, comes around" and "Karma is a Bitch" thing.

Don't throw out the baby with the bath water, bite your nose to spite your face or not see the forest for the trees.

I know I may be in the minority here, but being from Indiana this series is really important to me. Purdue ND is a long standing rivalry that has produced a ton of great games over the course of the last hundred years. This game, Navy, and USC should be ND's set rivalry games.

I agree for the most part. I like the Purdue game, but wouldn't mind Michigan or Stanford either. Must have Navy and USC

The average "super" aircraft carrier is over 1092 feet long. A football field is 100 yards, 3 foot in a yard, that would be 4 ball fields

I'm all for keeping the purdue rivalry going.
in fact im a sucker for all the rivalry series, and playing teams we have a history against.
but thats just me. i see both sides in this.
jack will strike the right balance. no schedule is going to please everyone.

We only have four rivalries with real historical significance: USC, Navy, MSU and Purdue. As long as they still want to play us, I'm sure Swarbrick will keep the series alive.
