I saw this earlier and it doesn't mean anything if by the remote chance it actually did happen. Coaches at one school cannot be in contact with a kid at another school. It's called tampering. If he called to talk to another team they have no choice but to hang up.

Okay, I am unfamiliar with the rules in these situations. Does that mean he can't talk to any schools until after the season? Or can he talk with them now that he has officially left the team? Just wondering when he can talk with other teams so that it wouldn't be considered tampering.

He can be in contact with schools once he is officially released by ND. As of an hour ago, that release still had not been sent out.

I am sure BGIF is working diligently to prove me wrong!

"Hence his enrollment at ND."

The family didn't move to South Bend, they moved to Indianapolis. Indiana, Purdue, Cincinnati, Louisville, Illinois, OSU, and Northwestern all have quicker travel times than ND does. Kentucky is almost the same as ND. Add an hour or 90 minutes and Michigan St, Michigan, and Vandy are possible choices. Take it to 6 hours and you add Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Tennessee, and bunch of others.

He had his choice fo schools and choose ND which isn't surprising as Amir's Top 2 were USC and ND.

He's at ND because he wants to be and because he has the academic ability to be here. He tasted Southern Cal academics and could have easily opted for OSU or anywhere else besides NW and cruised through classes. He chose the tougher road.

Your "Hence his enrollment at ND" is a misrepresentation. IF Carson Palmer's father, David Terrell's father, Ron Dayne's father, Randy Moss's father, or Walter Payton moved to South Bend their sons were NOT going to be students at ND. They weren't prepared for it. Palmer, Terrell, Dayne, and Payton COULD have but all refused take necessary classes or retake a test to improve a score. Many elites can't get into ND. Many others don't want to do the work.

HTML:
TEAM HR MIN MILES
IN 1 14 57
PU 1 21 65
UC 2 1 112
UL 2 1 114
IL 2 48 173
OSU 3 2 174
NW 3 2 183
ND 3 8 138
UK 3 18 186
MSU 4 7 250
UM 4 32 274
VU 4 45 287

All of that is true, but I don't believe I said anywhere that he didn't want to be at ND. He didn't choose ND to begin with, as you noted, he chose USC. Granted he had a choice of where he wanted to play when he came to the Midwest, so he chose his second option all along. But don't operate under the impression that the impetus for his move was ND, it was his family moving to the Midwest. Granted he chose ND, but that was not the ultimate factor. I'm happy to have him, and he's a great player/person, but the only reason he transferred at all was because his family moved to Indiana. I think he made a great choice, but please don't act like it was ND all along that made him move.

*COUGH* Gunner Kiel *COUGH*

That's my point, but I think Kiel is a little different. I followed his recruitment pretty close, even after he had decided on IU. When he decided to opt out, Miles put the high pressure pitch on him and wasn't going to leave him alone until he bought the water softener. I think Kiel always had ND on his short list even though Oklahoma, Alabama and IU were always mentioned as the front runners. Kiel will be successful after football. Not sure you can say the same thing about Lynch.

@KMcCarthy28: I want Notre Dame guys at ND. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

McCarthy put it best. Aaron Lynch just proved the kind of guy he is. Not mentally tough enough to play for Notre Dame. It doesn't matter how strong and fast you are on the outside, football tests your strength inside. Notre Dame is too cold. My girlfriend and family are 800 miles away. Join the club buddy, that's what all these guys are there for. I quite frankly, I'm surprised ND doesn't get the top-caliber prospects. ND plays a national-wide schedule, like the NFL, and plays in cold-climate conditions, like the NFL. So, Lynch, if you aren't mentally tough enough for ND, you're definitely not mentally tough enough for the NFL. As McCarthy said, don't let the door hit you on the way out. Good riddance.

Why is Kelly not putting restrictions on where he could go? If he told him no Florida schools, no opponents the next 4 years, and no Ohio $state, and no SEC teams, and maybe crybaby Lynch would think twice about this...

Lynch wants to play games...well, we shouldn't let him. Let him rot in somewhere far from Florida...

If Kelly restricts Lynch's transfer choices...maybe the next guy who is thinking of bailing will think twice.

PS Hoping Lynch doesn't make it to the NFL...we will see then how much his degree from ND would have helped him.

F Lynch. That is all.

Because that would be dripping with hypocrisy when we accept transfers from USC and FSU...

From TJ Jones

@Tai_Jones7: A person who wants something will find a way; a person who doesn’t will find an excuse. Our actions, not our words determines who we are!

Wow! Went to school with his Dad, gotta be impressed with the poise of this young man. If guys like Tai bring this kind of clarity and focus to next season, we will be just fine. I wish Aaron the best, this is not uncommon at schools like Notre Dame, my experience has been that guys realize later that they liked it more than they thought they did, but then again it is not for everyone. In the end what I love isn't one personality it is the spirit of the place that can permeate and consume a young man or woman in the prime of their life. The spirit you see in people like Manti or Jonas and now hear in tweets from Kyle and Tai, and in the fortitude of people like Tommy. Yeah, I said Tommy, like him or not he is a tough kid and an asset to this team wherever CBK chooses to use him.

Your point is?

I don't care about us accepting transfers and us granting them to others (i.e like Shaq)...I care about this one...Lynch and Lynch only. He played games..lets not let him then waltz out of here...

PS Amir is the exception for USC...and ND has allowed players to go to USC before...I am pretty sure it happened around the Holtz years..I forgot the guys name who transfered though...

And Prater I hear was blocked from considering ND...so don't go making Kiffin out as some big humanatarian...but I digress...

I would not let Lynch pick and choose where he goes...too bad for him. He already p.hucked us over...lets not let him do it again.

Point is that with so much high horse talk about character and tradition and class and integrity on the part of Notre Dame you have to practice it... Restricting any more than future opponents would be impractical and hypocritical. Why do we want to send the message that choosing ND is even more risky knowing that you can't change your mind? What Kelly does now sends a message to all the recruits who are still deciding if ND is right for them. (And please leave the "love at first sight"/"ND guys know they are ND guys from the beginning" BS at the door and stop rewriting narratives for guys like Kiel/Lynch/Amir/Prestwood/Tee) Choosing a school is a big complicated decision so lets try and put as many arrows in our direction as possible.

I'd take the chance on the next Aaron Lynch every time. When you swing hard sometimes you strike out and sometimes you hit homeruns. And if you're trying to win championships you need homeruns not singles...

I said nothing about Kiffin... I'm talking only about ND's side of the affair only. Not trying to compare standards with scumbags like the Kiffster.

I think watching Kelly's presser made me feel a little better about the whole situation:

If I see one more person try to say Aaron Lynch wasn't a good football player I'm going to lose my mind. If that's how some of you want to cope that's fine, say it to yourself, but don't make me have to read that nonsense

Edit: i may have seen it in another thread but I'll post here for convenience

I haven't seen anyone say that. I think Lynch could have been the best player on the team next year, but I also think this won't ruin the season. I don't think its the end of the world. If a guy doesn't want to be here, buy him a plane ticket.

Like I said I think it was on another thread but one person saying it is one too many.

I also don't think it's the end of the world. Next man in
