Wasn't his line "...that includes the coaches"?
I thought that is what I read anyway
That is what he said. It's in my opening post. The point that I was trying to make is that although blame falls on all parties, he is the one who is the captain. He should be the one who the players can lean on to adjust when things are going awry and he didn't do it.
I'm not taking any blame away from anybody. I'm just steeping more on Kelly because of the fact that: 1) he is the coach, he is getting paid big bucks to right the ship; 2) he has experience in winning and should have never made the same third down call over and over; 3) he tried to pass the blame on guys who didn't deserve it (most of the players with the exception of a few we can all name); 4) he took his foot off of the accelerator and coached not to lose instead of coaching to win, and that is how you lose... especially when you are Notre Dame and there is no team anyone would love to beat more than Notre Dame.
Blaming Kelly for his calls is not a cop out. It's not sparing the players.
I'll say it again: the one person we should be able to count on to pick us up when everything is falling apart is the coach. Can players do it? Yes. But they have to be put in the position, and the person who should have put them there didn't.
Let me make one thing clear: I love Brian Kelly. I think he is the answer. I'm calling him out because I saw what I think is unnacceptable out of a coach of his calibur. Anyone who thinks otherwise can look at my posts last week when it felt like I was the only one defending him. I don't want him fired. That was contorted from someone else's words and attributed to me.
I am a lifelong Notre Dame fan and considering that I was 2 when they won their last national championship, that means I have seen nothing but hard times. Friends and family leave me alone when Notre Dame loses. The guys at work won't bring it up because they know how I hurt for this team. Thank God yesterday was 9/11 because it made me realize some things are bigger than Notre Dame. It's ridiculous how much I invest in this team and I know it, but I couldn't change it if I wanted to. I am an incurable optimist, but what I saw Saturday was unnacceptable. The fact that Kelly backed up what I was saying in his press conference should be enough for you guys to understand that I'm not simply venting, I'm trying to figure why this team can't win.
That's how I see it. Disagree if you want. You won't be the first or the last, and I don't know you enough to let it affect me.
I like most of the posters on here and I've read this site religiously since 2005 (about the time I escaped dial-up). I've kept my mouth shut for the most part, hence the post count, and only spoke up when I felt it was needed. If you disagree, then we agree to disagree.
I'm not pointing at any one specifically, I'm just disappointed in the direction this discussion immediately went and respectfully asking it be shut down.
