I have no problem with BK's assessment. The record speaks for itself. 0-2 is not acceptable. Period. He realizes that, and "we're not good enough" is a very accurate description of this team. Talent, and having the fortitude to play hard for 60 minutes are two different things, and "good" players do both. We didn't do that last night, plain and simple.

If you're going to call someone an idiot, you probably should at least know the difference between your and you're?

I kind of wish they played a prevent defense in the last 21 seconds of the game. This would have prevented a big play or two against Michigan. I don't know why they had four players in the front and two players in the middle watching where Robinson was going with the ball. That's a waste of time. They should have put that two players downfield so there won't be making any big plays. Blame on Kelly for this. I don't think Rees is the right quarterback for the team. He fumbled inside 10 which any quarterback should never done it. He had two picks last night and three from last week.

We can't afford to fire Kelly, because it will put us back to square one when new coach comes in and may have a different offensive scheme. When Weis arrived in 2005, it took him at least 3 to 4 years to get great players but it's not enough. Now Kelly got great players, he should have much easier to win than Weis with Willingham players. We can say give him some time to rebuild, but how long? 3 years from now so Kelly can prove he can win with his players? I am getting tired of seeing coaches that come in and go just because they couldn't win enough games. I have a lot of questions for Kelly, but I am going to hold it until after this season if he can prove me wrong. We have 10 more games to go.

I can't even read this horseshit. No capitalization, no punctuation, and horrible misspellings. Please retype this, it makes my head hurt.

I think Kelly is smart enough to know he's got some work to do and I expect he'll learn and grow as all of us have. Yeah this isn't Cincinnati, pretty sure Kelly knows that by now.

After the first quarter it seemed to me we lost our edge. Maybe it was play calling, don't know, it just seemed like we started going through the motions instead of pressing our advantage. Letting a team get back in a game, especially in that atmosphere and doubly especially (In Mayberry we can say that, ask Goober) with a player like Denard is just a loss waiting to happen.

Gotta love college football. None of us have put in the work to coach Notre Dame and while it's fair to criticize a coach, we're 15 games in! Fix the turnovers and we're all talking about who we beat in the BCS championship. I'm pissed at 0-2 but I see a team that hasn't put it together yet. Have to stop the turnovers!

Brian Kelly is overrated! I think he is WAY over his head at a program like Notre Dame.

I'm not saying its all bks fault or none of it is but remember this. He isn't playing with all his recruits. He is playing with someone elses. They aren't recruited with his style offense. They can't play his ball and he doesn't run their style offense. Give him a couple years to get all his style players in and I will be willing to bank you won't see this problem.

I don't even want to dignify this with a response. You clearly don't have a ****ing clue what you're talking about. His gameplans have been EXCELLENT.

Please start watching soccer.

Brian Kelly will get a pass no matter what happens this year. But he'll be in a super hot seat with another start like this next year. If I were him I would start developing these young recruits now starting with the QBs wearing the red hats. Charlie was let go after 5 yrs. But he did went to BCS games his first two. Kelly doesn't have that luxury.

Kelly should get a minimum of 5 years to turn this program around. Those of you who are running around like chickens with their heads cut off need to stop it. The fact of the matter is that if 2 bad bounces don't happen, we are 2-0 right now and everyone on here would be on BKs ****. BK is not the problem. The only problem I have had with him in the first 2 games is running the ball on 4 straight 3rd and shorts.

Long before the start of the season, I felt this game was the most important game in the Brian Kelly era thus far. Some of you are probably thinking "no s**t." So the South Florida thing really didn't bother me, I really wanted the W against Michigan in the Big House. However, it is too early to be completely upset with Kelly (even though a pitch on third and short would have been cool). He did such a great job keeping things going at the end of last season. I have faith that if anyone can turn this program around it is our current head coach. And for the few people comparing his situation to Weis's "as it relates" to job security: just think about the 2007 season. I was at the BC game that year and they had 9 rushing hards in the first half! Stick with the Irish. Then again, how in the world do you let a team go 80 yards in 30 seconds?

I think most of the Brian Kelly flaming hot seat talk is overreaction that is retracted when reflected upon. I hate Michigan. I hope they lose every single game they play in, even in other sports. I hate their fans, I hate their campus, and I hate their team. So losing to them by such a small margin, in the final minute, for the the third year in a row is extremely hard to handle, especially for those of us who have to live with or around scUM fans. So when we lost, I punched a wall, kicked a table, broke a chair and screamed "FIRE KELLY". Thinking on it, either he'll get this team back to the top (hopefully) or he'll fail, which means there is no redemption (I'm not talking about this season - I'm talking long-term). There's no way Urban comes here and no other coach will if we fire Kelly. So after much negativity, I'm once again firmly on the bandwagon with my vomit bag clutched safely in my hand. Come what may, I'll never be able to not root for ND. But dear God, I hate Michigan with the flaming fury of a million suns. That's a real backbreaker.

And you'd think we'd have a little more pride than to always want to crawl, whimpering, back to Urban who already turned us down. To hell with him.

Also, I have to say this because I've seen this all over this site and it bugs the hell out of me. I am firmly against Chicago Irish Fan's rationale (above) about bad bounces. The fact of the matter is, even great teams have bad bounces. But they come back more determined and overcome them. There was an abundance of horrible coaching that made us succumb to bad luck. I think/I know that Brian Kelly can fix this, but I won't forgive him for the past two losses by chalking them up to bad bounces.

Q: I'm curious, how do you build mental toughness with a team?? How have you gotten teams in the past over it?

BK: There are so many things, I couldn't in one phone call get through all of the things that have to occur on a day‑to‑day basis. But we're shaping our team every single day. Again, there are so many details to that. All you guys care about ‑ and I understand that, and our fans ‑ that it equals wins, and we're not doing that for them. I understand the frustration.

But we're building it the right way. We'll get them there. We're not there yet. I know this journey all too well. I've been on it before. It's frustrating. It's disappointing. It's all those things. We'll break through. There's too many good things happening out there for us not to break through.

Geez, we have horrible fans. Two games and everyone is jumping ship. I'm confused by the loses as much as anyone, but I'm not ready to start comparing him to Weis and call for his job.

^this. people need to chill out. this is ridiculous to even consider firing bk.

This thread sucks.

A quote from Lou Somogyi from 247 :

Notre Dame has a roster full of individuals who have been winners in life, academically, athletically and socially. But collectively as a program, a culture of losing and the inability to finish a multitude of games has infiltrated the program for at least a decade and a half.

When the course will be reversed can only be answered within, and not by one game, one month or maybe even one season. Winning is a habit, an inherent trait, or “unconscious competence,” as coaches like to say.

As we have learned all to well, so can losing.
