I remember a few months ago when there was a report on II that the staff felt that they were so far out in front here.

They sure fucked this one up

LMAO. I'm speechless. 31 receivers in D1 over 1,000 yards last year. But heck, we can do 3 next year. I'm tempted to say more but ...
Does this include TEs because friendly reminder, Mitch Evans. So, a smooth 5,000 yard season from Leonard with our top four guys reeling in 1,000 yards each.

Agree. I don't understand why LSU either. I would've thought Alabama if not ND.
Yeah the LSU thing is strange

I could see Bama definitely because their staff had a previous early relationship with him at Washington and have the requisite proven track record he's looking for and well its Bama

LSU must be selling him on having Underwood? But we literally just took their OC from them? Maybe their WR coach from last year that coached Nabers and Thomas is still there and putting in work on him?

And we're having daily calls? And we're throwing bags at him?

Wow this is a bad look for Brown--does have bad breath or something? He is failing across the board

Tbf, that isn't unique. Under Freeman, we have seen ND speed up their process and put themselves in great position early, before the kids get a chance to see what everyone is offering. It's the right approach, but these things will continue to happen.

Can you summarize?

Don't want to do anything to step on ISD's toes, as the info is premium, but basically said ND feels good about where they are with Meadows and the family after a call last night and cautiously optimistic they'll be the choice.

Maybe we could have given Chansi Stuckey a second chance (Nick Saban / SEC style), kept more receivers, and secured some new blue chip WRs for '25. Or, are we glad he's gone and forgotten?

This makes commitments so much more enjoyable when you don't know who the pick is until the kid makes the decision. Much better then when you have a flood of CBs the week of the commitment.

I remember the last time (at least in my memory) that a big fish had a truly live announcement and did not tip off the staff.

Wagner was one, but Eddie Vanderdoes on NSD, the old NSD, where us fans really had to wait until the last day to know. That was fun. I used to take that day off from school, it was like a mini national holiday.

At this point, lots of kids are probably hip to this and how reporters can be used. So there will be intentional misinformation to build suspense.

I don’t believe all these recruitments are actual rollercoasters. But none of this pageantry matters anyway.

Part of the sell was probably Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Malik Nabers, etc. Of course you could say close to the same for Bama. As much as it pains me, it’s hard to argue against their recent WR successes vs ours.

Of course, pretty dang hard to fix this disparity + have the success of those schools until a player like Meadows finally decides to pave his own path by choosing ND and balling out here.

Reading between the lines... to me this sounds like he is being respectful to ND because of the long relationship but in the end ND comes in #2.

KVA was another, IIRC. Most ND writers were pessimistic. Mike Frank said on his podcast that he wasn't sure ND was playing with the same hand of cards as anyone else.

Do we / can we get our most recent top receivers (and maybe TEs) who made it to NFL to be more involved in our WR recruiting process to help get things jump started? I have no clue if they already are involved.

I'm just not sure what LSU can sell, though. The guy who had the great offense is now the coordinator at ND.

If it was a battle with Bama, I'd maybe see it. But I think if Meadows is LSU, he'd push back his announcement to see if the offense is actually decent before committing.

Yeah but if you read around the lines and ignore what’s between them then we get him and Bayou Brian loses and that’s a much more enjoyable solution.

Maybe Kelly has escalated things with recruits from simple ass grinding to lap dances?

In all seriousness it must just be their WR coach and the program's general notoriety for development at the position. They also have the #1 recruit/player/qb in nation which probably helps

Otherwise I agree it's a strange school for him to pivot over to so late

I mean... do we really want this? Look at the list:

Chase Claypool
Ben Skowronek
Equanimeous St. Brown
Miles Boykin

Not a productive NFL career in the bunch really (outside of Claypool's first year).

Or just hired someone besides Brown to replace him

Stuckey could obviously recruit better but he clearly wasn't a very good actual coach/developer based upon how the room did during his tenure--in addition to his other shenanigans

are you serious clark? #1 conference, probably the best game atmosphere/stadium, them and osu are wru.....when was the last time a wr was like...hmmm i want the best education, work hard, and go to a place that has put crap out in terms of nfl wr's.....the homerism is strong here

I’m not a fan of this argument. It wasn’t coaching and development that kept those players from being great. If anything it’s a positive that the staff got those players drafted.

Can we at least get a Top5 TE…
we're getting away from TE heavy offense so other than having a past hx of them and great academics we might not be the destination we have been for them...we don't usually get the tops one anyways besides mayer and alize...but much of the great ones have been 3 stars and 4 at best..

Yea, but if you put them all together you got something to work with.
