He's got the athleticism and strong arm, but to me his biggest asset is seeing the field and being a step ahead of everyone else on the field. Reminds me of Trevor Lawrence minus the hair and a couple of inches.

CJ apparently says I’m staying in ‘24 class. Meanwhile Driskell says he’s signed up for summer classes so he can reclassify if he wants. Loy says he might reclassify. Lloyd puts on a ND hat. Dante Tweets for the first time since mid May that he’s blessed. What a night.

Not getting my hopes up.

I hope he comes, I hope he wins a NC and a Heisman and he's the top pick in the draft.

But pulling a Carr from AA?
To come here and play for a Buckeye.

Until he's standing on stage next to Goodell and announced as from The University of Notre Dame I'm expecting a swerve.

Sampson's story is up. CJ's quote re reclassifying "I think we're gonna take the classes just to give me the option, but AS OF RIGHT NOW (caps are mine) there's no plan (to reclassify)."

As usual, Pete has the most comprehensive story among the beat writers.

Sounds like he's doing what he needs to as a backup, but ND wants to still recruit a 23 QB. And if they whiff he tries to reclassify

I'm not sure him reclassifying is necessarily a good thing. With covid breaks and expectation he probably won't be here 4 years, why not take another year to develop?

He gets 1-2 years to develop behind Buchner before being thrown to the wolves. Then in 2024-25 he hits the ground running rather than learning on the job. I think it would be a definite positive.

I think another aspect to keep in mind with reclassification is how Buchner performs this season. If he is amazing, he might be on track to leave after his junior season in '23. In that case, maybe Carr wants to come in to have a season to get used to the offense before he has to compete for the job.

But if Buchner is good, but not 3-and-done level of good, Carr might want to just stay on the normal EE path so that he has one season developing as a backup and gets to play his senior season, instead of reclassifying and potentially spending two seasons without starter's reps.

Considering how very few QBs actually go pro after 3 years, it might be smart to plan for Buchner doing it, but have the main working plan being Buchner being there for his senior season.

First let me say I'm a TB fan and hope he kills it. Now it's not a fair comparison, but I'll make it anyway. If you compare TB's performance from last year to Carr's film, Carr is ahead of TB in development and could push TB to the bench shortly after arriving.

Regardless of if he Re-Classifies or not....... when was the last time we have seen a 5 star (or any stud) come off as THIS WILLING TO HELP , as CJ is.. I mean hes Committing early to crush recruting for not only his 24 class, but even the current 23 class, andddd hes taking summer classes to keep his options open , theoretically if a re-classify is needed?????

KID IS A FLAT OUT STUD........(i was a Julian Sayin guy too hahahha)

Loy has mentioned multiple times this morning that re-classifying is on the table and will be discussed this weekend. Which will then also determine where they go with Moore.

That's an interesting take; assuming CJ Carr stays in the 2024 class, he'll be a true freshman when Buchner is a Senior, and, barring injury, would be out of eligibility beyond 2024.

The most likely scenario, IMO, is that Carr redshirts and takes over the reigns in 2025 with four years of eligibility. That would also be best case if TB goes on to kill it these next few years, and doesn't bolt early for the NFL (seems unlikely but if he gets to that level, we are going to have a LOT of fun the next two years with TB12).

In Pete's article, he said that while Carr isn't *planning* on reclassifying, he's taking online courses in case his mind changes. FWIW

Like Lion pointed out earlier, I shared the same thought that it's more likely to be an early-enrollment play in Jan. 2024 than a reclassification. Time will tell.

A huge get. I think he’s the type of QB prospect that has a good chance to develop into a player that takes you from that 10/11/12 win range to the 13/14 win range. Probably not as good of a prospect and a different type of player (and person), but reminds me of when Clemson got Watson about a decade ago. They went from the same range we are at now to winning a few Natty’s.

Let’s go get him some top 150 receivers and really make it interesting.

Seems to me CJ wanted to be careful in what he says until he knows for sure whether it's gonna be possible to reclassify.
Exactly. Don't pay attention to what he "says" right now. Pay attention to what his actions are. He's taking summer courses "in case" his mind changes. Most people don't do that unless they think it's at least a 50/50 proposition.

For Carr maybe instead of “on the table” it should be “on the dashboard”

So Dante's dad really is the villain, huh?

If I'm ND, I'm putting all my energy into CJ because he's shown nothing but good faith and being grounded to this point. I'm not doing anything that can rock the boat or upset that situation. If he reclassifies, great that makes things simple. If he doesn't, you make it clear that you're going to take the best available QB in '23 but you be careful that he doesn't have a toxic relationship with whoever that guy is.

You cannot trust that a player as stage managed as Dante won't bounce right before signing or Year 1 if the situation isn't exactly how his handler wants it to be. Pretty sad.

Sampson’s article was excellent (as always) and I was really struck by the degree to which this kid was never going to Michigan. Asked his dad, as a middle schooler, why he never left Ann Arbor? Balls.

Will admit I’ve worried he’d be a flip risk to Michigan eventually but unless he and his whole family are con artists that does not appear to be the case. Only thing that worried me was when he said he’d follow Tommy Rees “anywhere,” tho it is unlikely Rees coaches any other college program between now and Carr’s Signing Day.
