What’s the consensus here? I’m assuming we have a good shot?
He's a high-academic Catholic school kid from Boston with a HS teammate on the team, so you would certainly think we do. But in one of the other threads this week there was concern that he is "trending away" from us b/c he's going to visit a few other schools too. So 🤷‍♂️

It's a good sign that he arrived. Midweek there were some concerns he wasn't even gonna be on campus.

ND is by no means perfect, but it really helps to be there to understand why people value it so much. It will put the lie to a lot of the crap he is getting sold by other schools. It will also show you the difference between claiming your school is a certain way, and its actually being that way.

Don’t ask Reaper…
Every single site has reported pretty much the same thing last night/today…

A) ND no longer leads & they have catching up to do this weekend.
B) Lambert doesn’t have a strong relationship with Rudolph like he does with the other OL coaches recruiting him because Rudolph is new at ND.
C) This weekend could go a long way in his recruitment having him on campus finally & meeting with Rudolph.
D) ND needs to surge way ahead coming out of the weekend if they are to win this one.

Seems to be a lot riding on this one. A miss equals what? Statistically the worst o line class brought in in a few decades?

That seems to be a bit over dramatic. The 2018 haul turned out to be straight garbage, minus Patterson

Eh, they took 4 guys and two turned into high level P5 starters. One just didn’t do it at ND.

you are missing the context here. 2024 is probably the worst crop of OL recruits in the last decade. It's not that ND is missing out on top guys, its just there isn't a lot of top guys

You seem to be missing the context, that we can't be happy unless we are miserable and the sky is falling. We may not win a game ever again if we don't get this guy.

Lambert has offers from Harvard and Yale. He has a friend/teammate coming in this year's freshman class. He does not appear to be chasing NIL money. We remain one of the best in the country at developing offensive linemen. There is zero reason we shouldn't land this one.

Willingham brought in 6 offensive linemen over 3 classes with only one that was even a 4 star. ND's 2012 class had 2 OL, with only Stanley in the top 250. The 2015 class was Tristin Hoge and Trevor Ruhland. As Dublin alluded to as well, the offensive line class stinks this year. A 3 man class of Jones, Knapp, and Prescod would no doubt be disappointing, but it's not even close to the worst we've seen in a few decades.

We'll be fine as a program, but to pretend that signing 1 top 250 kid along the oline over a two year period wouldn’t be a problem as far as becoming a playoff caliber team is pretty optimistic.
There's a formula there I could see working for USC or even a Florida State. I don't see one with how this program has been built.

A few years ago we got stuck with a mid-level 3 Star TE who we were forced to turn into an OT who only got offered because his father was in the NFL…

Why does it have to be all good or all bad? ND has clearly had some absolute studs. Most of them were easy to identify as prospects (the overwhelming majority of successful HH recruits were highly-ranked).

But its also a fact that ND had a bunch of surprisingly mediocre OL classes during the Kelly and Freeman eras--both in star ranking and in results--compared to what you would think we would be bringing in based on past results. And there haven't been very many years where there was not an obvious issue at least one position. You would think ND would never really be scrambling to find a quality starter, but they have a number of times.

And if ND was taking athletic 6'7" sons of NFL linemen who just happened to be 3-stars, I would role my eyes as well. But 6'3.5" 3-stars without the pedigree are obviously a different story.

They need to land some difference makers at OL, and then get lucky on a few of the lower-ranked guys.

Curious what @NDMatt91 is hearing since he's got a connection at Lambert's school.
Gotta be helpful that his teammate Traore should be arriving soon.
