Regardless of what happens with Bowen, Freeman is making sure he and his staff are recruiting their tails off to keep/remind Bowen of why he committed to ND in the first place.

If Kelly was still at ND would he be doing this type of recruiting?

Hopefully Freeman can close this out with his in-home visit.

I think Kelly would be putting forth the effort NOW.

But I don't think he would've put in nearly the effort that Freeman has done over the past months. That's the difference.

It is probably the cheat day Scotch talking, but I don’t care about any individual recruit at ND. I care about the finished product. I don’t even care about Keeley anymore.
Jordan Johnson, Phil poopy pants Jurkovec, etc…I was so big on who turned out to be garbage.
There are 3 Star players in the class who want to be at ND & work hard who will be elite. Like Alt or Morrison.
Hope Bowen comes to ND, but if not, I will lose zero sleep over it.

I’m gonna take a stab and say that you’re the one with poopy pants due to the Scotch. Ask yourself if you’re projecting at all.

I stopped wearing pants a long time ago. I wear diapers, adult diapers, at a young age.
I would ask myself if I’m projecting, but it gets complicated with all the voices in my head?

Johntay Cook II a 5 star WR and Trey Wisner a 4 star ATH both committed to Texas for starters

I'm not able to list individuals, but DeSoto is another Dallas area school that routinely sends players on to major programs. They totally shut Arnold down in the game, especially limiting his rushing. Game was over fairly quick.

I am.
1892 Belvenie I got today for Christmas.
I opened it at the party and started then.
I’m wetting the bed tonight…
Had some Garrison Brothers Small Batch last night at a party in my honor,… back home seeing old friends. It was good. I looked high and low for some Yellow Rose but couldn’t find any out here and got GB. Very peppery but good

However, Freeman was hired to get recruits like Bowen. And while I think he made a lot of strides this year as a coach, his resume was not worthy of being HC at ND. He has to keep guys like Bowen.

Freeman would’ve been the perfect coach for ND… in 2017. In the era of NIL and portal free agency ND is poorly positioned and him being a charismatic hard worker only goes so far. Every school that signed a “top” QB this year paid for them. Every single one.

I want ND to recruit at an elite level but ultimately I think it’s going to be more and more unrealistic until something changes.

I want to know what the NIL situation is. I'm tired of that being an excuse for every failure in recruiting.

Good luck with that, because no one is talking and until the NCAA pokes around no one will. Every school including ND has a way to get these players paid. The basic jest is what portion of those funds are accessible upfront. The general consensus is that the answer from ND is that is currently a no go. If every top recruit is getting cash upfront and you aren't willing to...it's an uphill climb.

No one really knows exactly what is going on.

Should I be reading between the lines here?

Next few seasons are big. QB recruiting has just as much to do, if not more, with winning, development and a path to the NFL as it does NIL.

Our QB room has been an unacceptable disaster. Why would a QB want to go there. Highly rated QBs haven’t developed or ran off in favor of 3 star/low 4 star recruits. Luckily it’s a new regime but between Minchey, transfer, or Carr…we need one of them to ball out.

I firmly believe that if our former QBs included Lawrence, Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Justin Fields, or Jalen Hurts type players…we’d be in the running for big names. Instead we have Ian Book, Drew Pyne, and Jack Coan. No knock on those guys but no recruit and/or recruits family is going to advise their son to go to ND when you have coaches like Lincoln Reilly, Nick Saban, Dabo Sweeney, and Ryan Day pitching multiple 1st/2nd rounders in the NFL on their resumes.

Also, QB of ND is arguably one of, if not the most famous positions in sports. Jimmy Clausen would be at the top of the NIL market if he played now. The money is their for the taking.

Btw I think we dodged a bullet with Dante Moore. If the reports are true that he’s wavering…at Nike money of all things…he would’ve been a headache.

I wouldn't say it's the go-to excuse, but it's something that this staff has going against it in a lot of recruiting battles.

ND lost Moore and Keeley due to NIL. Straight up. The school's refusal to allow the collective to throw a guaranteed deal to the two most important positions cost them two high level recruits.

Edwards wasn't lost due to NIL. He had a prior relationship with Deion and that changed things drastically. Not to mention he has an opportunity to be THE guy at Colorado, which was less likely at ND with the sheer amount of skill talent coming in.

Frankly, if I'm Brady Quinn, I'm getting to the point where I say "fuck ND" and just use the FUND and extend some guaranteed deals to 5-star QBs. We didn't have to worry about it with Carr, because the dude is just a ND guy (strange given his background). But when the opportunity arises for us to close in on a Keely-type recruit, ND needs that ace in the hole, because it's not going to be the last time it burns us.

I’ll look for some articles if I have the time and post them. Different podcasts explain it pretty well and are all pretty consistent. ND without a doubt pays its players and we’ll. Mayer and Foskey made north of 800k this year. ND ranks 6 in NIL. What separates ND from other schools (atleast for now) is ND doesn’t allow payment up front for signing with ND. (Ie no signing bonus). About a month ago though there was a development down from the NCAA allowing schools to arrange/introduce signees to NIL deals. I could be wrong but the way I took it is sort of like a career fair. ND, from what I am told, is having its legal team look into it. ND will progress towards it while drawing between the lines.

The good part about ND is the brand. That’s what separates other schools who stay between the lines and ND. Because of the brand of ND (just like how bowl games fight over ND) superstars will get paid at ND and each season will be proof. Imagine Jimmy Clausen or Brady Quinn playing NIL today…they’d be top 5 paid.

ND just has to win and develop. We need one of these QBs coming in the next 2 years to play really, really well either by development or luck lol.

Agree wholeheartedly. It's just so typical.

ND is ALWAYS a couple of steps behind. Which is sad because it started out on the cutting edge.

ND is absolutely doing a "decent" job of compensating players on the roster, but I saw some dumbass chart floating around the other day that had Michigan "#2" and ND "#6" and I just know for a fact that it isn't even close to reality that Michigan is anywhere near the top 10 in NIL. So I don't know where these rankings come from.

The up front payment thing will continue to be the bugaboo for people who want guaranteed money now... which is a LOT of top prospects. ND's NIL method is more sustainable but it doesn't lend itself well to landing 5-star guys who have someone pitching them 7 figures. They're also falling behind schools that are publicizing their NIL collectives with QR codes at game days, etc.
