I feel like I’m going crazy lol. Julian Love was a consensus 1st Team All American for an undefeated football team and is a NFL Pro Bowler. We had one of the best defenses in the country and didn’t give up 28 points once until Love was hurt against the eventual national champions. He had 16 PBUs which was Top 10 in the country his last year, 20 the year prior which was second. That is the all time leader in ND football history.

It’s not knocking Gray at all to not have him clearing that bar already.
Yep. He broke up passes for 3 years. I don't really remember him ever having a bad play.

Is it fair to say that Love was the better college player but Gray could be the better NFL prospect? I feel like we all knew Love was a DUDE in college, but a move to safety was in the cards. I could see Gray staying at CB in the NFL
Prospect? Maybe. Love may also be a better NFL player though. He’s been great at safety for a while

Freeman actually talked about this play with Pete Sampson earlier this off-season. They had scouted Smith's footwork pre-snap, and noticed he ran a reverse any time he lined up the way he did on this play. So Gray was supposed to meet Smith on the other side of the reverse - except OSU apparently self-scouted this tendency and faked the reverse, hence why Smith was so wide open. That one is hard to pin on Gray - more the result of cat and mouse between Chip Kelly and Golden

Maybe, but someone definitely deserves to run some gassers for the mistake on that play. Smith should have never, ever gone unguarded on any play. I also think if you're going to get beat by Smith, it can't be deep. Moore gave up just one pass to Smith that I remember, and it was a short route that didn't do much damage. That long pass play late ended our comeback chances.

Had they given extra cushion to a deep ball and OSU just completed a 10 yard pass for a first down, I don’t think we would have been happy with that call.

The plan was expecting OSU to throw short near the sticks and if they throw deep, you brought pressure. They perfectly blocked, ran and threw a deep route. Can’t really say much besides they won.

It was an awesome playcall. I remember live standing in my man cave and just plopping back onto the couch thinking, “Damn, Chip Kelly. Touché.”

You want Al Golden running gassers for his bad play call?

Yup, if you blitz there it has to get home or you are 100% cooked. I don't even know if prime Darrell Green could've covered Smith with that much time and green grass to work with.

So mature. Good stuff
Kid made two of the biggest plays of the season but also one of the worst. Doesn’t mean we were going to drive another 85 yards and nail a 2 point conversion. If we did score our PK would have been the ND equivalent of Scott Norwood. Yes he nailed a big one against Penn state but his numbers were the worst I can remember.

On a positive note, I do feel like Gray and Moore locked things down once they figured out footing on that shitty field. 10 didn’t kill us second half
