It depends. I'd rather have too many 5 stars than not enough. Big programs do it. Look at Bama:

2022 - Ty Simpson - 5 star
2021 - Jalen Milroe - high 4 star
2020 - Bryce Young - 5 star (number 2 nationally)
2019 - Taulia Tagovailoa - 4 star
2018 - Tommy Brown - 4 star

These are all guys in the top 200 nationally. They are also in the running for Arch.

I bet Ohio State would be fun to look at. Tons of great QBs. Take them, figure it out later.

OSU (rankings per 247)
2018: Matthew Baldwin-4* (#331)
2019: Justin Fields-5* (#2 in 2018)-Transfer
2020: C.J. Stroud-4* (#42)
2021: Quinn Ewers-5* (#1)
2022: Devin Brown-4* (#43)

Clemson (rankings per 247)
2018: Trevor Lawrence-5* (#1)
2019: Taisun Phommachanh-4* (#216)
2020: D.J. Uiagalelei-5* (#10)
2022: Cade Klubnik-5* (#6)
2023: Christopher Vizzina-5* (#33)

Phommachanh is gone. DJ has largely been a bust. I’d expect Cade to come in and get a SOLID look

Question....does anyone here really believe if both Moore and CJ came, that one would not transfer out at some point? I mean, 5 stars want to play and if they arent the man, they want to go where they can be the man. I dont know a whole lot of places where 5 stars are okay sitting the bench waiting for the guy in front to graduate or get hurt. Exception being of course TF season but Im talking post that
Lax recently estimated the bust rate on 5-star QBs at 70%. So if you land one and then avoid recruiting another for fear of transfers, odds are good you're going to be disappointed. If you keep two on the roster at all times, it's basically a coin flip whether you'll have elite arm talent. At three, that jumps to a 66% chance, etc.

The goal has to be to bring in the absolute highest ranked QB you can every year. Anything less is playing with fire.

Sorry if this sounds rude but who cares? Which of these is a better outcome for ND to you:

1)Letting our coaching staff get to see two 5 stars practice for at least one year in our offensive system, letting them select the best one based on growth and ability in college, and letting the other walk.

2) Taking an educated guess on which one will be better in high school, and letting the other one walk right now.

If either Moore or Carr get beat out by the other, and want to go elsewhere, God bless them for competing to make the team and good luck wherever they go.

☝️, also the idea of not wanting to compete with other high levels recruits is backwards. These guys have been, and will continue to compete at the highest level. Nothing should be handed out or given based off some ranking service giving a 5 star grade.

Loy has been all over the place?
Maybe that might have something to do with Dante/Dad being all over the place? Lol

Hard to travel straight while chasing a merry go round
Dante’s Dad in his last interview basically joked that even if Dante commits to a school he may still take fall visits elsewhere. This almost to me felt like a direct shot at ND with regards to Freeman’s policy. So mixed signals are to be expected on a recruitment intentionally sending mixed signals.

Damn, so that means between Crist, Kiel, and Carr, we are due.

But Driskell said the reason Dante is slow playing is because "once he is done, he is done"- rock solid - unflappable

But seriously, I know the "game has changed" for all of the beat - his dad is taking over as captain and all the old "info" is irrelevant

Shaun Davis says that Dante knew that CJ was going to ND for a while and that it wouldn't scare him off.

Keep in mind Loy said he was told that there are some in the staff that still want to push for him, and if they do, he thinks Dante could very well wind up at ND.
Offer him a preferred walk on spot.

Agree, you take a top kid year in and year out. It will get sorted out, but as already been posted, your odds of success are much greater the more you have.

Doesn't surprise me. But why did he make an emo Tweet last night?
I'm sure there were tons of people hitting him up for a reaction. The wisest options would have been: (1) congratulate CJ, and reassure everyone that he doesn't fear competition and it won't affect his decision; or (2) to just remain silent.

But he's a 16yo kid. The tweet was ambiguous enough that it could have been completely unrelated.

Are you implying that Loy has stood firm over the last few days on Moore’s status and that some on this board are taking the conflicting info coming a handful of different guys on the ND beat and acting as if it’s all coming from Loy?
I think it would be close and Dante would have a year in the system advantage. Good for ND, not exactly good for CJ.

Driskell with some interesting thoughts on Dante/Carr:

-ND hasn't dropped Dante.
-ND isn't planning for CJ to reclassify. They've had the conversation but they haven't even reached the infancy stages.
-As of 3-4 days ago he was still talking to ND commits.
-Dante did an interview with Driskell after CJ's announcement last night and Dante said he called CJ and congratulated him and followed up with "I'm still 100 with ND."
-During the interview, Driskell said it was very obvious that Dante is getting frustrated with a lot of the rumors about and around him on ND message boards. It's clear that people around Dante are telling him every rumor that is going around on message boards. People on message boards are running with rumors that are not grounded in fact and are just, well, rumors. It comes off as if "ND people are saying this." Driskell said that's exactly why he took a month "time out" of talking about Dante because all of the rumors are being taken and spun to be used against ND and hurt ND (and Dante).
