Honestly this guy deserves Michigan and their flake coach. He had his chance to be the ND golden child but the greed was too much. Clearly he said things to MF that made MF question that he was being played.
I'm just speculating here, but what if it's a situation where he really wants to go to ND but someone close to him is essentially running the recruitment and their word is law? He'd hardly be the first prospect with someone close to them that was very controlling.

Loy flip flopping again
Are you implying that Loy has stood firm over the last few days on Moore’s status and that some on this board are taking the conflicting info coming a handful of different guys on the ND beat and acting as if it’s all coming from Loy?

That's been stated quite a few times and a distinct possibility.

Who was it a number of years ago where the recruit signed his paper and the mom came leaping through and grab it? lol

Does Dante want to compete with CARR? I'm betting Carr has no problem at all
I think we'll never know. He can't drop ND right now because it will totally look like he is avoiding competition with someone who is a year further out.

I’m not implying any of that. I’m saying maybe it’s the flip flopping nature of covering a HS kids decision (with a meddling camp around him) not the messenger….

I think Dante is going to choose Michigan and his heart was at ND. He (and dad) couldn’t make up their minds and now the boat is sort of full. ND doesn’t want Dante because I think they don’t want to risk CJ leaving or simply because CJ will end up in the ‘23 class. Now he’s crawling back to Michigan because there’s no room. He never wanted to go to Oregon or TAMU, he was just enjoying the spotlight. ND saw more upside both athletically and in natural leadership in CJ. In a perfect world, you get both, but IDK if that ever could’ve happened. CJ and Dante want to be at a different schools it seems. I don’t see that as weakness, I see it as smart. He wants this to be his team. If someone comes into the ‘25 class or ‘24 (assuming he reclassified), no issue, but keep Dante out of ‘23, please. I still believe strongly that the biggest reason Dante is out at ND mostly because CJ will probably reclassify. I get that CJ shit that down, but he doesn’t want to set expectations before decisions are final. He’s taking summer classes. You do not do that for funzies.
CJ himself said that he will not be reclassifying.

I'm gonna be the beacon of moral superiority that @Whiskeyjack warned you all about, and say that perhaps we should tone down the "kid is greedy, only looking for the bag, flip-flopping and being a drama queen" angles. And I promise it's not just because it's being reported that ND isn't out of it.

Based on what we know, and what Dante himself has said publicly all along, it is a very real possibility that he (1) committed to ND because that's where he wants to be, (2) was told by the coaching staff to wait until he finished the visits he wanted to take before going public, and then (3) realized that maybe he's not 100% sold on ND and whatever it is he feels ND offers, whether that's NIL money, QB development, an OC he knows will be there for a few years, etc. etc.

The coaching staff probably [wisely] advised him that he can't take visits as a commit, and if he was insistent on doing it, to wait to make things public. Dante and his 'camp' probably gave a big-time, "I'm 100% locked in" statement to Rees and Freeman, which is where the insane ND beat confidence came from.

It's likely that some weird stuff is going on behind the scenes... but we don't know that for sure, outside of Driskell doing his usual thing, and how Loy shot down the "is Dante's dad getting in the way?" question multiple times over at 247.

Of course it's crappy that they gave such definitive info to Freeman and Rees, who were obviously relying on him to shut it down.

BUT he still hasn't even reached his very public, very clear timeline that he set himself back in March. He wants to commit before his senior season. We aren't there yet.

Things changed behind the scenes. Things changed for ND with CJ Carr committing. I'm sure things have change at other places with NIL offers, new recruiting pitches, etc.

That doesn't necessarily mean the Moore's are villains chasing the bag, drumming up a bidding war. It's possible (maybe even likely?), but not definitive. He's still doing what he publicly said he would do, which is take visits. If he gets to his senior season and hasn't made a decision... we also knew that was a possibility, from his own mouth, from back in March.

His only mistake was being definitive with whatever he told Rees and Freeman, which was a big mess up and put ND in a really tight spot... but doesn't mean he wasn't being genuine or truthful at the time.

Exactly. Thank you. Let's take the money out of it for a second.

The entire reason they don't want their commits visits to other schools is exactly THIS.

You can love your girlfriend, and she can be a great match for you, but if you keep dating other people the relationship has an excellent chance of falling apart. Other people are also attractive. You will "feel" stuff with them as well. At some point you have to commit to committing.

The staff was wise to let him wander. If Dante was really happy with ND, he was not wise to keep looking. Things change. Doors close.

Can you get more specific about what stuff is being felt in this given scenario???

I do 100% agree with this.....and yet, if Dante calls up this weekend and wants to OV and commit, ND 100% takes it. And we'll all celebrate!

At the possible expense of losing CJ? Not saying it will/would happen, but 1000% other schools will be in his ear about it. What I am saying is... IF it were possible that this could effect CJ, would you still take Dante and the flakiness vs a SOLID kid, 5star who WANTS to be at ND?

I sure don't... I have moved on. Ill take that 3-4 star with traits and keep me some EE CJ CARR.

I don't think we'd lose Carr. If that were the case, I'd pass on Moore.

Sampson's article in The Athletic makes it clear that CJ wanted ND regardless.

I think ND wants Carr to sign on the dotted line badly. I also believe, based on the article published in the Atlantic with quotes from CJ, that reclassifying is a real consideration he’s mulling over. How Carr feels about a Dante commitment matters. Whatever pc lingo is said publicly in the press about that is just that. If anyone really thinks CJ would prefer Dante to commit, they’re not thinking clearly.

I am with you, depends on how CJ really feels about that. But taking all these extra classes just in case you want to reclassify when you’re a 17 year old sophomore feels like it’s a better possibility than some think.

Well, I'm not a family member, but I work out at the same gym. Check that, I've briefly talked to Dad, but we aren't really that close. Check that, I smoke cigars with Dad every Friday night.

Maybe ND is putting Dante on the back burner (like he did ND) while we figure out if CJ is going to reclassify or not.

Question....does anyone here really believe if both Moore and CJ came, that one would not transfer out at some point? I mean, 5 stars want to play and if they arent the man, they want to go where they can be the man. I dont know a whole lot of places where 5 stars are okay sitting the bench waiting for the guy in front to graduate or get hurt. Exception being of course TF season but Im talking post that

That's pretty much a given, but having two 5* QBs instead of one, and pitting them in a fierce competition against each other, greatly increases your chances of producing an elite QB.

Oh there's a better chance of one of them transferring out than not. But if we want to close the gap on Bama, UGA, OSU, etc. then we need to acquire as much talent as possible. Those programs bring in stud after stud at pretty much every position, including QB. At the end of the day, the best player(s) will play.

It depends. I'd rather have too many 5 stars than not enough. Big programs do it. Look at Bama:

2022 - Ty Simpson - 5 star
2021 - Jalen Milroe - high 4 star
2020 - Bryce Young - 5 star (number 2 nationally)
2019 - Taulia Tagovailoa - 4 star
2018 - Tommy Brown - 4 star

These are all guys in the top 200 nationally. They are also in the running for Arch.

I bet Ohio State would be fun to look at. Tons of great QBs. Take them, figure it out later.
