I'm gonna be the beacon of moral superiority that
@Whiskeyjack warned you all about, and say that perhaps we should tone down the "kid is greedy, only looking for the bag, flip-flopping and being a drama queen" angles. And I promise it's not just because it's being reported that ND isn't out of it.
Based on what we know, and what Dante himself has said publicly all along, it is a very real possibility that he (1) committed to ND because that's where he wants to be, (2) was told by the coaching staff to wait until he finished the visits he wanted to take before going public, and then (3) realized that maybe he's not 100% sold on ND and whatever it is he feels ND offers, whether that's NIL money, QB development, an OC he knows will be there for a few years, etc. etc.
The coaching staff probably [wisely] advised him that he can't take visits as a commit, and if he was insistent on doing it, to wait to make things public. Dante and his 'camp' probably gave a big-time, "I'm 100% locked in" statement to Rees and Freeman, which is where the insane ND beat confidence came from.
It's likely that some weird stuff is going on behind the scenes... but we don't know that for sure, outside of Driskell doing his usual thing, and Loy how shot down the "is Dante's dad getting in the way?" question multiple times over at 247.
Of course it's crappy that they gave such definitive info to Freeman and Rees, who were obviously relying on him to shut it down.
BUT he still hasn't even reached his very public, very clear timeline that he set himself back in March. He wants to commit before his senior season. We aren't there yet.
Things changed behind the scenes. Things changed for ND with CJ Carr committing. I'm sure things have change at other places with NIL offers, new recruiting pitches, etc.
That doesn't necessarily mean the Moore's are villains chasing the bag, drumming up a bidding war. It's possible (maybe even likely?), but not definitive. He's still doing what he publicly said he would do, which is take visits. If he gets to his senior season and hasn't made a decision... we also knew that was a possibility, from his own mouth, from back in March.
His only mistake was being definitive with whatever he told Rees and Freeman, which was a big mess up and put ND in a really tight spot... but doesn't mean he wasn't being genuine or truthful at the time.
