Manning started, what, two or three games last year? Put up pretty good numbers (granted against G5s and Mississippi State). And then I suspect when coaches get pretty heavily invested in a player, they want to see that pay off, and believe they can be the guy to make it happen. It's human nature.I could be led to believe that the media made up that Arch Manning was good at football because it would be good for business. What I don't understand is why college coaches who make offers and who are generally pretty good at identifying talent would go along with it. Sark pretty clearly pushed Ewers out for Manning, and he saw both of them play in practice every day. I say this as a big "Arch isn't going to be a generational anything" guy.
Besides it sort of feels like Ewers had run his course at Texas. The fact that he didn't transfer suggests he was probably ready to try his hand at the pros. Good luck to him.
As for Manning, I'd bet he turns into a fine college quarterback. But the #1 pick talk was always nonsense.
