Jamie U was at his game with Freeman. He gave a solid eval. Granted it’s just one game but He said he’s a top 100 guy and not a 5 star type right now. I think that is closer to reality than Rivals #22 overall.

Good stuff from Matt Freeman as usual. Link Jarrett is starting to get more involved and is trying to get Bowen to the North Carolina game. The baseball team will be recognized for its season last spring. This would be the week after he visits for SC and Freeman thinks it's both a great move by Jarrett and likely to happen. Keely has been in his ear a lot and Sonny Styles also has a good relationship with Bowen. The ND staff has been also been in contact with Bowen's younger brother Dylan.

I was there as well and there is no way Jamie can make any evaluation off of that game. Merriville literally ran almost every single play away from Bowen. Any time the ball was in the vicinity of him he made a play, including in coverage.
There are two Elite DC’s at the FBS level who think Bowen is a 5 Star talent. I will go ahead & go with them.

Whoa, slow down. He didn’t say he’s only basing that off the game. But one could certainly make part of the eval based on his movement skills which can be seen in both sides of the ball. And how he dealt with other parts of the game like he noted his block destruction or lack thereof.

Its clear for everyone to see that he has him as .92 rated 4 star before this.

I really don’t think it’s that big of a deal if he thinks he’s not. We think guys should be rated higher all the time. Now that we’re recruiting a different tier more consistently, it makes sense some of these guys might be a little overrated. It happens all the time.

Everything you said is completely fair but also worth noting that some services rate prospects on different criteria. Some rate on how good they are now and some rate on future potential. If Jamie rates on how they play now but Bowen's weaknesses are coachable (like block destruction) and not athletic limitations then it would make sense that Jamie would rate a kid slightly lower than someone rating him on future potential.

And let me add that I'm very high on Bowen and think he would be a very high quality addition. The LB's hauls in '22 and '23 could be ridiculous if they hang on to everyone and are able to land Bowen and Styles in '23. Ridiculously good classes back to back. That's national championship level recruiting at the LB positions.

I ran into a buddy of mine this weekend that coached against him twice He wasn't critical of him but was surprised to find out how highly rated he is right now. He said he was a really talented kid, has a ton of potential but didn't think he was a top 25/50 kid. Take that for what it's worth.

September 1 of junior year: Athletes can receive any form of private communication. This includes emails, recruiting materials, texts and direct messages on social media.

Bowen visited Clemson last weekend and will be at the Cincinnati game. He is also planning on visiting for the USC and North Carolina games with a trip to Auburn mixed in October 9.
