I'm actually more in-line with 247's rating/ranking here. They moved him up a little but still quite shy of 5 star territory. From #61 in April to #48 now.

I think this ones already over. My question is will he sign when Marcus takes a head coaching gig at the end of next season.

We're waiting on you to go first.

Interesting top 5.

1. Could Tom Allen pull another surprise?
2. Who's promising him he can play both FB & BB?
3. LSU, UA and Clemson is a long way to go to catch the BB games. Not as easy as catching one FB game a week.

Loy said it’s a ND/Clemson battle. Also said baseball would not factor over football. Finally, said he thinks a commitment will take place sometime in the fall, maybe around the USC game.
That last one seems oddly specific to me?

Loy called it an ND vs Clemson battle?

That's being very kind to Clemson and manufacturing a story.

He said Clemson was the biggest threat.
He didn’t say it in a story, someone asked him who was the biggest threat. I will find the questions & quotes & paste them.
Also, someone asked what happens when Bama offers & Loy says he thinks they are too late at this point.

Here is the exact quote;
Poster: “No Bama? That’s big.”
Loy: “Clemson seems like the biggest threat right now.”

I think Loy said he expects around the USC game because Wiltfong just said Bowen will take all five officials then decide, and the ND/USC game is the last of the five visits.

Interesting how, when asked why Clemson wasn't in the running for Sneed, people were saying it was his size... 6'2", 210 lbs. However, Bowen is way different at 6'2" and 215 lbs.

Sneed isn’t 6’2 and his overall frame and length are likely going to come up short of Bowen. Nothing wrong with that, ND has shown they can weaponize tweeners like Sneed, but Bowen and Sneed are not the same size nor project to develop the same .

He is a junior. He can't take OVs until the summer going into his senior year.

The distance, especially to Auburn and LSU, will probably be a slap in the face if he goes on unofficial visits every weekend in the fall. A lot of airfare or some really long drives. ND is so close.

He is a junior. He can't take OVs until the summer going into his senior year.

That rule changed when they created the early signing period:
”Due to a rule update by the NCAA, effective May 1, 2019, official visits for all other DI sports can begin August 1 before the athlete's junior year of high school. For almost all sports, this bumps up the official visit date. Official visits are not allowed to occur during recruiting dead periods.”

“According to the new rules, DI recruits in most sports can now start taking official and unofficial visits starting August 1 before their junior year of high school. In the past, official visits weren’t permitted until the athlete’s senior year of high school and there were no restrictions on unofficial visits.
For D1 men’s basketball, recruits can begin taking official visits starting January 1 of their junior year of high school.”

So other than D1 basketball, all other sports can take officials starting the summer before their junior year.

At the same point of the process, Fisher was 12th overall I think. He slowly slid down but still finished 25th and a 5 Star. I bet Bowen doesn’t finish a 5 Star if he commits this fall.

1. It would be a big surprise if 2023 four-star LB Drayk Bowen did not commit to Notre Dame.

Gorney’s take: FACT.
Drayk Bowen
is looking to play both baseball and football in college and Notre Dame offers fabulous programs in both sports. This feels like it might be a little too easy – an in-state prospect who has been high on the Irish for a while, who wants to play both sports and is looking for that mix of athletics and education. If baseball is playing a huge role in his decision-making process, Bowen could look closer at some other schools, too, but everything seems to make sense that the in-state standout plays two sports in South Bend.

Singer’s take: FACT. I almost said fiction because the wording of "big surprise" is so strong, and I try not to let much surprise me these days in recruiting. But against my better judgment, I'll say it's a fact that it would be a big surprise if the Irish let Bowen leave the state. Auburn, Clemson and LSU offer Bowen a lot, and he thinks very highly of those coaching staffs, but Notre Dame seems to have everything Bowen is looking for in a college. The baseball staff is getting involved now too, as Notre Dame wants him to play both sports. I love where Notre Dame stands for Bowen, but there's more work to be done.
