No disrespect to Hanifan, as I would have gladly taken him. But given our WR situation in the coming year or 2, this kid may be a bit better just for the reason that he seems to only play WR and will therefore, hopefully, be better able to help early in his career. Even if all he does as a Frosh is run the Golden Tate/go routes. (I have not watched any tape, so I am going off others comments about his speed.)
To me, he looked fast, but not ridiculously so, especially as his competition wasn't incredible. Still definitely a take and I liked his ball skills. With some physical development, I think he could be pretty good (length, change of direction for a long strider, and receiver skills are all pluses). His film reminds me a bit of Jordan Johnson (in a good way)

“I like him better than Hanafin because he is the most recent offer by the staff and because I am the best arm chair football talent evaluator in my home. Therefore sign this guy up! And I definitely am not convincing myself that he’s better than Hanafin because of sour grapes. Your grapes are sour!”

Hey, positive commentary is a win in and of itself. Or the "This is a Plan C offer because they're missing top targets" crowd hasn't gotten around to this thread yet.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think I'd bet that he keeps picking up more offers from here. A few games into his senior year might be enough for anyone waiting to make a final decision and offer him.

From what I can see he plays division III or IV, which is pretty good in California. Hayward is a fairly large town (160k+) near SF. So, I imagine his competition can’t be that bad.

On MaxPreps rankings their SoS coefficient is -23.7. Rico Flores’ HS, Folsom, has a 42.1. It’s still California, but definitely a weaker schedule

I still think Ronan would be a beast safety...
Yeah that’s the thing. Hanafin might prefer WR right now and maybe even picked Clemson for that reason, but I’d bet he ultimately plays safety in college.
Not sure this kid offers the same positional flexibility. Which is not to say he wouldn’t be a fine take as our fourth WR. Go get him Chansi.

not to continue derailing but I always thought Hanafin was best suited for future LB. He didnt wow me as far as WR went.

Maybe rover, but I could see him at safety. Either way, he could be a unicorn size/speed for either position. Unless he is a great great great WR, he's likely risking some draft ceiling for himself.

Hopefully they don't stop here with Lyons. You need one more WR for this class. Keep evaluating and if there is someone you like, expand the board and offer. If someone is ready to verbal and take the spot, first come is first served. Very simple.

Some serious buy signals to back up Singer’s contemplation of a ND prediction.

Just a interesting nugget, he said a lot of schools have told him they will be watching his first few games.

Also from ISD:

Confirms Bracy is his cousin, plus another cousin ran track at ND.

This is a lock if ND wants him

I like this kid, sign him up if he wants in. We only got 1 receiver last year and need more talented kids in the WR room. First eye test this kid looks great running routes and has good hands! I think we need a 4th or maybe go 5 WRs to make up for 2022 receiving haul.

The ND offer is all that matters to me, but can anyone explain why none of the PAC 12 Cali schools have offered him? Cal and UCLA should be all over it.

Oregon, Washington, and Utah have offered per Rivals. They're better programs than Cal and UCLA so that's good enough for me.

I don't disagree. However, Cal and UCLA are better programs than UMass, yet UMass saw fit to offer him from the other end of America.

That's not the point I'm trying to understand. If anything, you'd think that they need the help more and would be all over this guy.

Stanford has four WR verbals in 2023, so that I can understand. UCLA, SC and Cal have one WR verbal each. It feels like severe oversight on all of their parts, but I suppose they have their reasons.

I hope ND can wrap it up with a signature.

Under Chip Kelly UCLA has developed a rep for not recruiting guys they should. So I wouldn’t be concerned about their lack of an offer.

Most shocking thing I’ve read today. Had to go check to confirm.

Interesting.

Appears in the end it's just circumstantial all the way around perhaps. I still want ND to sign this guy and have him as part of the class. It would be a great start to building up the WR room again.
