No. Similar types but I don’t think at the same level, Smith was just that good. Best prospect they have ever seen according to some 247 guys
But Sneed will be playing under Freeman instead of Van Gorder.

I believe Jaylon Smith was one of the greatest players that never was. I don’t know that any program could’ve changed that. I say it because Jaylon always seemed to lack that killer mentality (think Clowney at South Carolina). He doesn’t have it even today after watching him play with the Cowboys. Just a super athlete, whose super nice. That’s not a knock.
Regarding Sneed, he certainly has elite capabilities, just not quite Jaylon Smith level. I was a huge fan of hiring Elko, and then Lea, because they were well versed at doing more with less. We’ve seen that in Freeman, but I feel he’s on a different level. I hope he is able to take the higher rated players like Sneed and turn them into a monster on the field.
He was a consensus All American, Butkus award winner that led his team to the Fiesta Bowl and was on track to be a Top 10 pick before injury. Not sure I’d attach his ND career with the term “never was”
He was a heck of a player, a once in a lifetime type player who I feel just left a lot to be desired. Maybe things would’ve been different under a different system that allowed him to play more free. Without digging I believe JOK was more of a disruptive player during his career at ND. Of course I could be wrong.
Yes, I believe you are wrong. I believe the output is skewed by the systems and teammates each player had.
Jaylon Smith played under BVG in a defense that was awful and scattered. He didn't have as many opportunities to be disruptive because he was always trying to erase mistakes.
JOK played in a top 5 defense for two years with multiple NFL players and a scheme that allowed him to attack/ad lib without major repercussions because he had good players all around him. There are many alternate realities I'd pay to watch but Jaylon in an Elko/Lea defense is near the top of the list.
*****CIRCLING BACK******
Sneed is a stone cold lock for a 5 star right? I mean he was better than all the other 5 star LBs at the event.
A lot of praise has been getting thrown around for Sneed. Things like "might be the best linebacker in the nation" praise. Kid might shoot to five star status (or probably fall just short since he's likely commuting to us).
That's a hell of a drive every day...
Hah. Fat fingers, little phone.
Fat guy with a little phone...
Ryan Callahan from 247’s Tenn site says his OV is off.
Let’s get this party started!

I'm still holding out the tiniest sliver of hope the staff secures an immediate difference maker on all three levels: C. Moss, Sneed, Nwankpa ---- those are three near-5 stars that appear to be incredible players
And yes, I love all of our other recruits and believe each of them is capable of helping take us to the top.

Will it would be great to get Moss' points in the Class Ranking Wars, they are loaded with DE talent this cycle and Sneed's gonna double outside a DE and rush too.
I tell myself that because I have him as a 10% chance of becoming Irish.
