Nothing against the kid, but I'm hoping we'll be a little more picky at QB and land one a little more dual threat

I never officially CB'd him. So that's why it didn't happen.

Time to move on.

Rutgers guy gave Angeli a CB-7 to ND.

He was wrong about Estime.

Am I the only one who feels he would have committed already if he was a take? I’m more for Wimsatt or Allar but if it was really first come first serve I feel he would have pulled the trigger already

I would tend to agree on a normal year but the lack of chances to visit campuses just makes things so messed up nowadays

Was supposed to be competing for the starting QB job with Boom at the NFA7v7 East Regional. But, he didn't make the trip.

QB recruiting for a program that's been in the playoff 2 out of the last 3 years is a joke.

Ugh I have to root for a BC kid? Congrats to him regardless.

Welcome Steven! You already have doubters amongst your fan base. Work hard and prove those assholes wrong. Go Irish!

Just a reminder we have parents of recruits reading the board. The negativity expressed on a teenagers commitment day doesn’t seem like a good showing for our team.

Hard to remember a kid that was met with more immediate apathy by the fanbase. He was clearly at the top of Rees' list. We'll see how it goes.

The more the fans don't like a kid, the more likely they are to start in the future it seems. haha

Good luck Stevie. Happy to have you on board.

He's catching the fallout of Tommy's process. It's a bad look and now the kid has to read it on every site. That's too bad. Hope it motivates him.

Watched his 7on7 film. If you guys aren't excited, I'm sorry.

His balance of size, athleticism, mechanics look special to me.

great get for ND imo. the kid has a strong arm, throws a great ball but hasn't started many games in HS so his best playing days are in front of him.

Tough to not assume that Allar told BK that he wasn't that interested and then the staff called Angeli and let him know he could commit.

I think the staff likes the idea of rotating between a gunslinger (Buchner) and a "game manager" like Angeli. Worked with Wimbush - Book - Jurkovec at least in their eyes.

true but trying to prevent negativity on a message board is basically impossible. The coaches should be well versed on dealing with it as it has been a hallmark of ND football since forever. Or at least forever in internet years.

Congrats to Steve and his family. Let's see if we can pair him with another now.

Seems relevant in this thread as well - BK has done a lot with "worse"

QB Recruits all time under BK (with Angeli included for context):
Gunner KielNational 260.9878
Brandon WimbushNational 460.9792
Tyler BuchnerNational 700.9685
Phil JurkovecNational 830.9593
Malik ZaireNational 1620.9300
Drew PyneNational 2250.9164
Avery DavisNational 2460.9078
DeShone KizerNational 2420.9073
Andrew HendrixNational 2840.8999
Everett GolsonNational 2670.8937
Steve AngeliNational 3750.8900
Brendon ClarkNational 5210.8796
Tommy ReesNational 4210.8795
Ian BookNational 5170.8681
Luke MassaNational 8590.8559
Ron Powlus IIINational n/a0.8126
Average overall = .9085 equates to 4*
I consider the following as "successes": Wimbush, Kizer, Golson, Rees, Book.
Successes average overall = .9056 which is really carried by Wimbush's .9792, excluding him it drops to .8872.

Angeli is maybe right in that "sweet spot" based on previous successful QBs under BK.

I am still in the thinking of we need 2 qbs. Would only be the third time we have under BK (2010 we had 3 (Hendrix, Rees, Massa) and just last year we took 2 (Buchner and Pyne). But with it being a position that is the most important in football and maybe looking at losing Clark to a medical (no info just speculating) I think it would be prudent.

I don't claim to be a film evaluator...

But if Tommy Rees liked the way Ian Book played QB, then I can see from Angeli's highlights why Rees wanted him. He's really good on the back-should throws, he's already got the 'reverse spin away from a pass rusher' thing down, and he's an effective improviser.

The fact that he's taller and will probably end up having a much stronger arm than Ian bodes really well, IMO.

I'm excited about this pickup.
