Why did you get your hopes up? It was pretty apparent days after he entered the portal that he was not looking at ND.

ND will get the player they want and who fits the culture and mission that Freeman is instilling within the locker room.

This might be an unpopular opinion, and it is definitely subject to transfers out, but I'm somewhat bullish on the interior DLine next year. Rubio showed capability and improvement in the second half (and he has size that we haven't had since...Tillery?). Cross was arguably our best DT last year. Mills seems best suited to 3tech and could become a star with a move there. Ford and Onye have shots to show something this spring, as does Aiden K if he stays. I feel way better about tackle than end. There's lot to play out here.

I think the concern is outside of Mills, Cross, and Rubio (to an extent), there is no experience behind them. But, as you mentioned, the unknown guys.. Big K, Ford, Onye and even Hinish, who from behind the scenes reports has been impressive, all have a shot to step up and place themselves in the rotation without sacrificing confidence from the staff.

They are recruiting them. Whether it happens this week or after spring, if Freeman determines that they need a guy, they'll find one. He isn't going to take a guy just to take a guy. Fit is important.
