The Combine is dumb. There's years of tape of these guys playing big-time football against high-level competition but yeah let's obsess over how fast they sprint 40 yards in shorts and do some cone drills.
It’s like an interview for a job… resume is probably more important but it helps to show it and that you can prepare for interview

It truly is the dumbest silliest thing in pro sports.

I understand back in the day, even as recently as the mid 2000s and before, full game tape wasn't as easily accessible.

Now? It's so incredibly dumb and all athletes should just stop going.

Surprised he didn’t get a 4.6 though
He’s got a shot at redemption during the pro day. Hopefully he’ll shave some time off his 40. If not someone is going to get a late-round steal in the draft.

Maybe he’s a genius and he’ll run a 4.6 at pro day, due to combine that will actually look good even though it’s not

If Tony Jones can get real NFL snaps I think Estime can.
Tony Jones got real snaps due to completely transforming his body in the NFL. NFL Tony Jones and ND Tony Jones are two completely different players.

With that said, despite similar size, different backs.

Cracks me up seeing some of these takes.

I truly hope the Packers take a chance on this "bum" who doesn't run as fast in his underwear as some of the other kids. Would be neat to see them take a flier on this "bust" to back up Aaron Jones for a year or two.

Someone on here has called him a bum or a bust?

I love Audric. I think Love and Price are each more talented. I also think he deserved to be a lead back last year. I believe he will not be a great NFL RB. I do not think it's because of the 40 time.

Not a good time but he’s a good RB. And, he’ll be a good RB in the NFL. All that happened was a good front office is going to get him at a better price. Sucks for Audric short term but maybe not long term.

Tongue in cheek, but it's implied. People saying he ruined his draft stock because he ran slow in a straight line, absolute joke.
It's not a joke. You really think his 40 time and workout didn't have a negative impact on when he will be drafted, at all?

It won't have much of an impact on his success in the NFL, but it will definitely impact him financially in the short run.

Unless he crushes it at pro day.

This. I didn't see really anyone say he stinks all of a sudden. But his time puts a risk factor out there, that i thought he would disprove at the combine, instead it was probably worse than expected.

Yeah. There’s been a good bit of rationality in this thread.

Does Estime’s 4.7 suddenly undo his entire body of work so far? Of course not.
Should he have not run it/does this mean he will probably slip down some teams’ draft boards because they fault him for this time? Also yes.

Both worlds can be true.

Honestly though. When the potential is as high as 4.7 as a RB, and you had the season Estime did… you don’t run the 40 and you leave teams guessing. Most seem surprised by this result, means teams would’ve placed him at 4.5-4.6 probably. His agent f’ed him here.

Yeah they (the agents, they all have training facilities now) should have tested him in the 40 and told him not to run at the combine. Unless they DID test him and he ran a lot faster, then Estime can make amends at the ND pro day.

Funny how everyone runs 4.5s at their home combine. Has their ever been a faster time at actual Combine than their home one?

I'm happy he ran in "the 4.5s" but can't imagine anyone puts any stock in these 40s over the combine's.

Scouts probably do take these pro-day numbers with a grain of salt, they're almost definitely "friendlier" to the players but I think we all can also agree that Estime didn't run live on the field like a 4.70+ RB.

It’s literally always a tenth faster on the home turf, for whatever reason
