I hope this is just you on wild turkey.
Actually Pina Coladas.
In that article if you look at all the things he says appeals about other schools they are all ticks to ND rather than Clemson.
Stanford: academics/McCaffrey
Northwestern: academics/close to chicago
NC: fit/early playing time
All of them except Clemson: closeness to other recruits
Given the proximity to home and the number of visits to Clemson, if it was Clemson, why not commit already? We have a legitimate shot for this young man.
To visit other schools?
Out of respect to his relationship with Taylor. Taylor is literally the only reason this kid is even a remote possibility for ND at this point.
Honestly you have to think to the kid what matters here
Does relationship with your teammates matter? ND
Does relationship with your coach matter? ND
Does getting a world class education in the event your career aspirations are cut short matter? ND
Or is it all about playing for a National Championship > all else? Clemson
Because if in the end, all that matters is the last one to kids today, why do you even try for 5 star kids if you are ND? Seems like a ton of effort with very little reward. And I say not meaning DONT recruit them but seems an excessive amount of effort has been put it on one person who, if choosing Clemson, it really never mattered to anyway.
Which is my point. If he were Clemson, why put off the inevitable? You have to break the bad news sooner or later.
I've given up on "education matters". We've seen way too many say that then pick another school.
I like your point and wish (both for their own sake and selfishly to benefit ND football) more kids would think about that part of their decision. However, as I read this o thought, maybe it makes more sense economically for him to be within a few hours of home vs a plane ride away as it relates to family coming to visit and watch his games. With that being said, I’m not sure what their situation is.You would think it could have a little more influence during times of economic uncertainty.

If someone is putting family coming to see you play ball over career preparation and betterment, then that person is borderline a candidate for a lobotomy.
Just saying
Love to hear itPer ISD, Shipley had a zoom meeting with Brian Kelly, Lance Taylor, and Tommy Rees which he said went "great". Matt Freeman from ISD will be following up with him tomorrow to hear more about it.

Nothing matters but being at an elite program, play time and championships. Don't kid yourself into believing education matters. Maybe to 1% or less of these kids? The rest want to be showcased and punch their NFL ticket. Why but school as an obstacle?
After reading that it’s hard not to get your hopes up. It’ll sting if we don’t get him.

I think that is a bit harsh. To many kids, education is important, but isn't the deciding factor. Moreover, many kids come from environments that make ND appear out of reach academically and they have other rival coaches feeding that doubt.
Not saying that is the case at all with Will, just speaking in general.
This statement seems a bit irrational from my perspective. You are misguided here because you have misplaced the ability to understand the value of family to adolescent individuals. To some of these kids their parents and/or grandparents are the center of their universe. I don't know what your relationship was like with your family, but is it outside the realm of reason to believe that playing in front of your family may hold a little weight in your decision?
Oh what hell am I talking about! Clemson could throw him in a room full of hot coeds and none of this shat would matter anyways! I'll see myself out!
If you are academically strong enough to play at ND. If you want to play high level football and win championships you go to Clemson, OSU, LSU or Alabama. Until ND can sustain top10-top5 finishes year in and year out those kids will choose elsewhere. Until ND can stop losing games like michigan last year, the kids will go elsewhere.
Weather is not a factor. Kids go to OSU, PSU etc.
Academics is a factor, whether they can deal with it or not, its a huge thing to some of these kids because you can still come out with a degree at these other schools along an easier path. Playing football at this level is a full time job. Why go to a school that, you know, makes you play school.
Family is a big factor to.
ND will just never get those kids. ND will get a 5 star here and there, bunch of 4 and 3 stars. The difference is you need to find those diamonds in the rough, like Dantonio did for all those years. Thats where your bread is going to be buttered.
folks on II podcast today confident ND lands Rocco and Shipley
