These guys leaving know exactly where they are going. If Rees reaches out to an ND player under scholarship would that not be an NCAA violation of some type?

Or is the belief these players are calling the other school's coaches??

I absolutely think it. Students should be able to change schools however they want to. An English major can change schools at any time when he or she wants, an athlete should be able to, too.
Most regular students aren’t getting a full-ride scholarship and - at this point in many cases - a salary.
If college sports is being professionalized, no pro sport operates this way, with players free to jump teams whenever they want. It’s insane and unsustainable.

CFB is semi-pro ball now. Need to have contracts fro these kids with four year deals for a certain amount.

It’s starting to look like the employee roster at a fast food restaurant…….a few loyal employees but the roster is constantly churning at a high pace.

We have Tyree too if the young guys can’t handle the pressure. I doubt that will happen though.
Yes the guy that was put into Slot because the staff didn’t want him in the RB room.

Dominos are falling against us.

Diggs is dime a dozen. Payne looks good. Love has great talent. Not to mention Price but an Achilles is tough. That’s putting Estime aside.
Leadership can be hard to find. Ask the 2007 and 2016 teams.

Which they relinquish when they leave, same as a kid who *is* getting a full ride scholarship.

I don't know or care if it's sustainable or not. I'm more concerned with the kids than the schools or programs or THE SPORT. Colleges sold out for this shit a long time ago by locking down what kids could or couldn't do, so *they* had all the control. Kids couldn't even get a job washing cars on the side without it being a violation of their amateurism.

So, as soon as they get a level of empowerment, people are worried about the imminent collapse of college football? What does that say about how things have run to this point? If the system falls, then so be it.

But, again, I don't think we would be having doom and gloom conversations if ND was simply easier on undergrad transfers.

We have coaches for leadership.
That's not how it works. You need leaders on the field. Coaches prodded Jaylon to be a vocal leader to encourage and pickup the defense, but he was never that kind of guy. Tremendous playmaker, but that's one reason Joe Schmidt ended up on the field running things.

Wonder what he’ll fetch on the open market regarding NIL.

Yes, there are other RBs, but as we all know, that's a position where a guy can be out for upper ankle sprain for a number of games or for the season for ACL or Achilles tear... i.e., it could become a depth issue and even if we did more easily take transfers, when looking at ND RB room even w/out Diggs, many RBs will be inclined to look elsewhere as they likely want more playing time if they're going through the trouble to transfer, esp. a Grad Transfer. A 3rd-year player like Diggs who is excelling and contributing is a player you want to count on sticking around for their year 3 and even 4 and as mentioned count on as leaders and foundational players and that is what NIL is killing. So yes, it hurts and is a major loss imo... Sunday night can't come fast enough!

I was high on Diggs when he first committed to the Irish. Man, I hate seeing him leave when he was making solid contributions. This portal stuff stinks… I get players getting to control their own destiny- good or bad- but come on. Where’s the loyalty to team in all this? Wish Diggs the best… but dang… he was set up good at ND.

Wow. I am really having a hard time with sports. I stopped following a lot of sports because of all the chaos with rosters and not even knowing who I want to root for. This roster turnover might be great for individual players but hard on the fan.

Funny, I was thinking the same exact thing…..I rarely watch the NBA for this reason and have cooled on College Basketball, MLB and the NFL. It gets more difficult to latch on to a team when it is changing drastically every year. I wish there were some additional guidelines in place.

This one sucks. We should probably try add a grad transfer RB if one comes available. I really wouldn't like going into the year with the 3 non-Estime backs being a sophomore who hasn't played, a sophomore coming off an achilles injury, and a freshman. They might all be good, but I would like an experienced backup there too.
