'21 GA WR Deion Colzie (Notre Dame Signee)

Lenzy has been open a lot.

There’s been a strange narrative floating around for a couple years now consisting of “our quarterback doesn’t see our wide open receivers” and “our receivers stink, can’t get seperation….”.

Im thinking the lack of the production from the receivers (particularly this year) has more to do with the QB play.

Lenzy has also made some horrible adjustments to the ball when in the air. Let’s just agree there is blame to go around for all the offensive players this year, even Meyer has missed some serious blocks allowing the RB to be stopped in the back field. Missed throws, missed catches, missed reads, missed blocks. The offense is not playing cohesively. I don’t know who should be blamed but it’s either Tommy or Freeman. That’s our only real choices. I guess it could be from the horrible coaching they received in the past from both the Oline coach and WR coach. The QB coach is still here so we can’t blame the previous coach there. lol

That may be true. Its hard to tell watching on TV if receivers are open downfield except for an occasional replay. But those at the games should be able to report on this.

To the extent the problem with our passing game is the WRs (as opposed to the QB), Colzie playing up to his potential would help a lot. For all the Merriweather discourse we should be talking more about Deion.

I would like to see ND move forward with youth at the WR- Colzie, Styles, and Merriweather as our 3 main WR's.

With so many injuries there might not be a choice, although I'm sure Rees and Freeman would say Salerno gives us the best chance to win.

Productive and interesting he was first one in with Lenzy out.

He essentially had the only actual downfield WR catches. Thomas was lined up as a TE and Styles was a short catch and run

He’s got such great physical gifts with that size. I think he looks like a guy that needs to play with a little more intensity or even edge.

I truly believe Colzie could be a dominant collegiate offensive player if he made up his mind he really wanted too.

Colzie is a lot like Boykin.

Most knew he was going to be a guy who wouldn't be an immediate impact guy and would need time to develop. Looks like the lights are starting to come on for him.

PCL injuries are minimum 6 weeks to heal, upwards of 12 weeks, and he hurt it at the end of August. Probably needed time to get healthy and adjust back in.

On paper this is a dangerous WR core and I agree with you. Colzie and Merriweather on each end (size), Thomas and Styles as the slot, and hell put Mayer wherever and he will produce.

That’s a pretty talented fivesome.

Decent talent there, but just pretty inexperienced outside of Mayer. Next year is looking good, especially with young receivers to come in and push the rest.

His catch on third down in the second half was a thing of beauty. That throw from Pyne was pretty-well placed, maybe a LITTLE outside yet away from the defender, and Colize made a really nice adjustment and made a strong hands catch to move the chains and eventually seal the game. This happened right after the turnover and looked like another potential defensive stop for 'Cuse when momentum had fully swung in their direction.

Great to see him out there making plays and picking up first downs. Little worried that Styles and effectively disappeared into the abyss, but if we keep getting opportunities for Tobias and Colzie, that's going to be a big lift for the offense. Thomas continues to ascend, another really nice story from this season.

He's been huge for us, perfect timing with Styles no where to be found.

There's not enough snaps for all the WR's to shine. We're playing 2 TE's on almost every snap, 3 on some as well as two RB's 10-12 snaps per game. So Stiles seems to be the odd man out.

And we only got 56 snaps vs Navy.

He has some catching up to do but got to think he will get it sorted out for next season and at least get back on track. The chances of him going NFL after next season are low now.

Almost 6'5", high jumping 6'8" and running sub 11 100's. He was a top 100ish WR for a reason. No time like the present for Deon to stake his claim for his spot at the top of the future WR room.
