The EE angle is probably very important here. A lot of elite schools don't allow midterm graduation.

Also, besides OC Mitchell leaving, sounds like there's the possibility of something maybe negative to the story??? More to come.

Why would you mention anything about athletics being the reason when you are moving into a different school district? Well, word going around SD is he's transferring at ND's request so he plays LESS (load management) He's most likely gonna have to sit out 5-6 games because his family admitted athletics were a reason for the transfer. Combine that with his ability to EE from Helix (public charter school) vs not being able to from Bishop's.

Strange situation.

“Our family is relocating and Tyler will be transferring to Helix for the fall. First and foremost, Tyler has had a great experience at Bishop’s and will always love his coaches, teachers, classmates and teammates. It is a special school and he is grateful for all it has done for him. This was a really hard decision. It started because of his interest in enrolling early at Notre Dame and was centered around his focus on being the best student-athlete he can be. Ultimately we all agreed that this would be best for our family and Tyler. For now, he won't do any interviews or comment further on this decision and won’t do so until he is enrolled at Helix. Thank you for your understanding.” — The Buchner Family

My super-rose-colored glasses tell me that the ND staff KNOWS they finally got a generational talent at QB, and they are all-in on winning a natty with Buchner, optics on certain things be damned.

I don't see how a desire to early enroll necessarily has to be athletically based? I mean, realistically, we know why he's doing it, but kids can leave high school early to get a jump on classes and get their degree early. There was a girl who did this in my high school class and she wasn't an athlete.

Watched his junior highlights about a week ago and honestly weak competition or not dude is insane. Type of talent who wins the heisman with ease at oklahoma. I'm pro Rees but this is the kind of talent you break the bank to get an elite OC for. Rees could be that but we can't let this talent go to waste.

I hear ya, but we have to keep in mind that Rees was a big part of his decision to commit so early in the first place. If Rees is not retained as OC, who knows what would have happened with his commitment. At this point, it's Rees or bust with Buchner and the kid seemingly wants it that way.

Have a feeling Rees's name will be spoken a lot this year. Just a gut feeling, but I think he's crazy smart and brings attitude. He also knows ND.

I think so as well. Almost every account of those on the trail or in coaching circles that meet him come away very impressed. The dude is a football junkie and I think it was an Ace hire. I guess we'll see.

I think it was an Ace hire too. At worst, it was a low risk dice throw with a high ceiling.

My biggest fear to be honest is that he has two great years, and then gets the knock lol. Too soon to worry about that I know, but I'm not going to lie about thinking it.

He was born, bread and raised to be a Coach by his father.

I think he should have the same success as Lincoln Riley. Give Rees two years as OC and then name him the coach in waiting for when BK retires some time between 2023-2025. Lea will probably be gone by then for a head coaching gig, so you make Elston Defensive coordinator and assistant head coach.

I remember thinking he is going to be a hell of a coach some day with his pedigree. You could tell he can see what needs to be done, he just didn't always have the skill set to execute it. Never thought he would progress this quickly though.

Can’t wait to see which three star filler beats him out for the position,...

Couldn’t decide if italics were appropriate or not,... sadly

I think ND will step on it's dick and not want such a young HC without previous HC experience.

I'm sure others were just trying to get a Koon joke into the thread but this post is 100% fact.

*** And I will add... being that there was no Lincoln Riley, I'm good with Tommy R. Moorhead would seem to have been a good choice but his QB's get
