Makes sense and I am glad for him. Why get your degree from a second rate university in a state most people can’t find on a map.

I do wish him well. I just don’t want him back on the football team. Not the qb we need to get us a national championship
Respect. He should probably focus on lacrosse, but I wouldn’t mind the story of him walking on the football team. He can backup Leonard and Angeli /Minchey (whoever doesn’t leave).

Unlikely but potentially plausible scenario:

(1) Riley Leonard Transfers In
(2) Angeli Transfers Out, opening up need for another body
(3) Buchner transfers in becomes QB2-3

Idk if MF would want the controversy in the room.
I thought the same thing. The only difference is that I don't know that I would tell him he is competing for backup job. Assuming Angeli leaves, I may tell him that he is coming to ND for lax, and if he wants to come to the football team, it would be as the 4th guy behind Riley, Carr and Minchey in whatever order they are in after spring ball. He would be a "Break glass in case of emergency option." He would probably get a football scholarship, since honestly, we are never at 85 anyway, and MAYBE, you create some kind of package for the things he does do well. That would definitely give us the 4 scholarship qb's that Freeman wants for the next couple years anyway. He just becomes the program guy, who stays to get his degree and maybe helps out in a pinch.

Doesn’t he have to sit out a year since neither transfers are a grad transfer? Thought you only get one free undergrad transfer outside of a coaching change.

Pretty smart move Irish. While Tyler didn’t pan out at Bama, he did learn their offense. Will come in handy next year when the Irish and the Tide square off in the semifinals.
I know I can go back through the last 10 years of IE, and find similar posts.

This Is a Dry Snitch/ short snub, Like TB needed to learn Tommy's offense or Tommy learned some new offense that didn't include 25-30 year old men....

It's the reason I get irritated with these bama fans throwing a pile of garbage in our face and calling It rose petals.

That's Great News.
On a side note- MF and Parker can now learn how to play SEC offense. (which was just taught to them in the last 12 years.)

I’m kind of jealous actually. Kid got to run out of football tunnels at Notre Dame and Bama and will suit up for the defending national champs in LAX. Has anyone ever won national championships in 2 sports at different schools in the same calendar year?

You know what, good for him. Admittedly, I was a harsh critic of TB as a quarterback — I just didn’t see what some of you saw in him. His limited action at Alabama furthered my opinions. I thought he was insane for leaving ND to go to Alabama — especially when he did it.

That said, the kid wanted to take a crack at the quarterback thing. It didn’t work out, but at least he tried.

He’s now hanging up the football pads for lacrosse pads — many would have likely given up on athletics all together. I commend him for heading back to South Bend, trying something different, and I hope he excels.

Sorry you didn’t like my attempt at humor. But I will say this with all sincerity… I will cheer on every young man that is out there competing every day to make themselves better be it football, lacrosse, or whatever. I wish TB nothing but the best. The school name on the jersey means very little to me compared to the heart these guys have. Thank them for their time and effort and hope they succeed in whatever life brings them.

Great to hear this story end with a happy ending for him. Nothing but respect for giving it a go & coming back for what really matters now. He’s a smart kid, he’ll do great things.

If he wanted to he could walk on to the FB team and run the scout team just for shits and giggles. Would be kinda crazy.

Some of you guys need to get over yourselves. This is a neat story. There was no mention of FB. Instead of saying you’re happy for him returning, but you don’t want him on the FB team, why not just be happy he’s coming back to get his degree. Smh

At the very least it’s one more quarterback on campus.
