Exactly - really boxed out that quarterfinal slot and effectively guaranteed three SEC playoff wins with Bama/OU, Ole Miss/Tulane and then UGA/Ole Miss. TAMU would rather play UM than ND and probably not pleased they have OSU to deal with if they can beat Miami.
The slimiest motherfuckers.

Imagine being the President of a university and hitting send tweet on this. Then muting the replies

Schools like Rutgers are part of the reason we are in a completely fucked system. Because enough dopes will fall in line to receive the trickle down money conferences are willing to bestow on them for the privilege of taking losses.

I mean this is the common sentiment we are dealing with while also having no one in the room to advocate for us. Just blind hate from a bunch of people we did NOTHING to:

I get loving a team like most of us do with ND but the hate is just... I mean like frothing at the mouth.. political.. and the university is all class.. Lord did they all hate are run last year.. was all a mask saying how much they liked Freeman... just unreal

Abiding by contracts > Not abiding by contracts

Nobody gives a shit what the Rutgers president thinks, anyway.

They're only in the B1G because of an outdated media model. They won't survive the inevitable winnowing.

edit: oh wait, he turned off comments.

Does Northwestern have something special to hate ND about?

Didn't he write an article saying ND was racist for firing Willingham? He is scumbag race-hustler and a fool. And I didn't know that show was still on TV. Not that it matters, but MF is also a minority. We don't hate coaches -white, or black, or asian, or whatever- unless they suck.

Yeah because they think they're Harvard when they're actually not even the best school in their own city so they have an inferiority complex and want attention. It's this meme brought to life:

Bottom line, college football has changed for the worst and there is really no sign of it getting better. Every time I hear "join a conference," I see it coming from the mouth of some schmuck who's content selling their soul for idols: money, fame, trophies, etc.

I'm am no longer shocked by the immense level of brain rot within people. This country is a dumpster fire of stupidity and idiocracy. The powers that be only care about more money and more power. They easily dupe the mindless idiots who ingest their propaganda. It is so telling that any and every Disney/ESPN/ABC affiliate lobbied against ND, but those who work for FOX and others who are more independent media actually told the truth about it. It's rinse, repeat in every aspect of American lives.

Notre Dame got pushed out of the playoffs because of Disney/ESPN, the SEC, and the ACC stood to lose money. The number of pundits who have flat out admitted to this ("The committee did not want to leave out the ACC. This is because of Duke winning. And you can't punish Alabama." bla bla bla). Just wait. They will change the rules to exclude the G5 next year. They will increase the playoffs to 16 teams. And that will only open up the floodgates for more of this bullshit because they'll favor teams like Texas, Michigan, and USC over ND. More B1G and SEC teams will move into the conversation with a few bones thrown to the Big12 and ACC. ND will continue to get treated like trash. Not because ND is trash. Not because they think less of ND. But because ND has the nerve (and ability) to stand against the power structure and "steal" money, they feel is owed to them and to them alone.

To any mouth breathing troll out in the world who hates ND, maybe just sit this one out.
I agree with all of this, and to add to the warranted cynicism, Fox was playing their angle for a future run at us to join the conference they cover. It was smart politics on their part for future attempts to get us to conform.

It's the system that's wrong! There's no way the Sun Belt and the AAC should be involved with a 12 team championship playoff! Jame Madison and Tulane are far out of their league. This isn't basketball where there are 68 teams involved, this should be the 12 best teams in college football! Why there's not more concern over this is beyond me!
And then there's 'Bama! No three loss team should be included in the field, but it seems that 'Bama would get in with four and five losses.
And the committee should be ashamed by the ignorance of their "chairman!" He was unqualified to be in that position, if he can't answer simple questions and give a fair assessment of what constitutes a championship lineup of worthy teams, ALL!
Even Vanderbilt, BYU and Duke were screwed by this process. Duke won the ACC championship, for heaven's sake. What if a basketball team won their conference playoff and didn't make the Big Dance?

This year’s team reminds me of the 2002 USC team that slaughtered Iowa in the Rose Bowl. That team was led by Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer but they had two early season close losses that prevented them from entering the BCS conversation. But I remember thinking at the time, they were playing the best football in the nation by season’s end.

All the more reason we embrace our villain arc fully. Cold hearted football. It's not a form of evil to say enough is enough with the tapdancing for America. They hate us anyway. Great. We appreciate your hate. We need to play destructive football. No more smiling or being thankful to anyone outside our family and above. Decline interviews that benefit our enemies. No more press junkets talking about how we operate by a different creed. No more referencing the glory days. Right now is the time. It's time to crush the serpent. Our Lady wouldn't have it any other way.

I despise him. He’s a big Chicago sports fan and so am I, but fuck him. The majority of sports talk shows are unwatchable and unlistenable. He’s a loud mouth babbling fool like most talking heads.

Peeked at social media, because apparently I hate myself more than originally thought:

The main highlights I kept seeing:

-Turning down an invitation to the uber prestigious Pop Tarts Bowl, which is aired on the network that used your name to create a month long scripted soap opera that even fooled Vegas, and said network plans a finale where you get stabbed in the back, is the greatest transgression in sports history

-We now love and want Super Conferences

Honestly as someone who knew how the sausage was made but wasn’t jaded by it fully enough till Sunday it’s saddening to see some great personalities fall. McElroy is probably the best color guy ESPN has. I’ve been out in Herbsteit for years but Greg has seemingly supported ND under Freeman. And then not just Sunday but sometime 1 - 2 weeks ago it all flipped on a dime. He started saying things and just talking in robotic ESPN ways I never saw before. When push came to shove + his team became involved (as his former teammates disagree), he has done a 180 on Notre Dame.

Wilbon believes ND is racist because they fired Ty Willingham. I used to be an avid watcher of that stupid show (I can't believe it's still on the air) and he's been grinding that axe for over 20 years now. Not sure if he hated them before then, but I do remember him crashing out about that and he's never, ever let it go.

Same here. I'm a big boy and knew large parts of this were bought and paid for, but I didnt think they would dare be so brazen about it. That's really the shock for me. I thought for us to get screwed over it would need to happen in the dark. They just shot us in broad daylight.

I honestly think last year shook the SEC. Nobody expected that from ND and it was another year with the mighty SEC on the outside looking in for the championship. This year, it was a legitimate threat of another ND run, ending with another championship game with no SEC participation. It would further hallow the belief of SEC superiority. They wanted us out and the ACC played ball simply because they need any sort of relevance.

And the CFP money angle. Follow the money is always the answer here

It's so funny how the common refrain among CFB fans is, "what happened to the game I love?" "These superconferences are ruining the sport!" "ESPN is ruining college football!"

Then, ND is mentioned, and it's "JOIN A CONFERENCE!" It reminds me of a St. Anthony of the Desert quote, "A time is coming when men will go mad and they will see a man who is not mad and they will say, 'you are mad, you are not like us.'"

Yeah, I've lost a lot of respect for a ton of personalities this last month and change. So many of them just revealed themselves to be total hacks. And I truly believe the messaging coordination crosses over company lines and I saw a lot of "on3" and other types picking up on the lingo that was being filtered out and using it.

Back in the day they used to refer to the national champion as the "MNC" or "mythical national champion," because really, how could you ever truly find the best team, the champion of entire sport? The playoffs were supposed to correct that, but I'm back on board with this. This is a farce and just a mere reality TV show and network driven invitational. Now, I still want to win one, but really all you can ever truly count imo is the regular season. As Freeman says, "12 guaranteed opportunities." Everything else is a Real Housewives franchise for men.

I was struck watching McElroy at the start of the Sunday announcement. He said he'd gone back and watched the Miami-ND game, and while he thought we had improved quite a bit and would win a game today (yes), they were the better team on that day (which I wouldn't disagree with), and therefore should be in over us (which only makes sense if you think August > December).
That's when it started to feel like the fix was in.
