There’s zero way they would have been able to do that this year. It would have had to have that intention from the start.

Maybe calling them the 12th ranked team in this scenario getting the 9th is outlandish, but if they’re 10th that will absolutely protect them from getting left out by AQs from conference championship week chaos. Committee won’t get around that.

ESPN controlled the talking point. They moved Bama and then didn't move them after getting smashed because they needed it to be about ND vs Miami. It should have been an ND vs Bama evaluation first but then that makes it too slippery because then they have to evaluate Miami vs. Bama.

They chose the outcome in advance and then changed the argument to fit. There is literally nothing else to explain it.

But you need top P4 team tie ups in order to have good matchups later in the season since the top P4 conferences will not schedule tough OOC matchups with teams like ND other than early in the season in late August or before their conference slate begins in late September.

Those longing for being a “true independent” in football are living in a dream world.

There’s a reason why we had to go this partial route with the ACC and those reasons are even more magnified today.

Literally every potential opposing team would want the games before they start conference play.

Finding quality teams to play after week 4 would become increasingly difficult. The schedule would be filled with mid-majors, especially if you blow up the ACC arrangement. Conference officials would lean hard on their members to not play us.

If you want to leave the ACC, then you need a similar arrangement with a prominent Conference, or you have to become a full fledged Conference member somewhere.

Edit - Bevacqua told ESPN that any rankings ahead of the final ones are a "farce and total waste of time."

Yup, they have created the biggest issues in this process and are nothing but a money grab.

This is correct, unfortunately.

We all like to say that we are Independent.

But, we are really dependent on those ACC games.

I'd pay whatever it takes to break that deal.

See if the B1G would give us a similar arrangement.

If not, just join the B1G as a full member.

What sucks is this could be the year programs pull the plug on the life support known as bowl games, but conferences will not allow it.

I would bet anything Texas has zero interest in playing Arizona State in the Rad Dudes Butt Wipes Bowl

That said, I still would rather have the practices, but if the team and coaching staff think they're good, then LFG.

Also, the EE's not being able to practice anymore has an impact on that utility.

Look at how we are taking the news of being left out... Imagine the players right now? With the team's mental state, do you think those practices would be very beneficial? They wouldn't... The team voted on how they felt, good for them.

No, that's what I'm saying with this part:

If the team and staff are ok with not having those practices, then I'm ok, too.

Just saying, in general, I think having them is for the best.

ND needed to start looking for a new home for non-football the moment the ACC started heavily banging the anti-ND drum. Find the home, find the donors to cover breaking the contract.

The ACC has been a bad partner.
