Looked pretty good. Stonehill not much competition. Allocco and Shrewsberry give us a pair of wings who can really shoot. Takes some pressure off of Burton.
We’ll be fortunate to get much production out of our post players

Shrews was awesome, 4-5 from downtown after he canned quite a few threes in the exhibition against PFW (Which is definitely the better of the two teams). Early indications is that he is picking up right where he left off late last season. Agreed that Allocco gives us a great second option on the perimeter.

Personally, I hope Burton doesn't settle for too many threes this year if we have these two starters who can shoot it. He was 1-3 again yesterday and shot at only a 30% clip last year as well. Just not his game. He is so much better when he's attacking the paint.

Agreed about Burton
O'Malley said it best. Hope he doesn't go Harangody too many threes to try and improve draft stock

Didn’t get to watch but key takeaway based off the stat line and what I’ve read is Julian Roper is at the tail end of the rotation. In a season of frustrations, no one presented greater ones for me as a fan than him

Weird game. This team is much improved but still showing their youth.

Tae Davis, Shrews, and Njie all look much improved, especially the first two.

If you watched Burton tonight, I thought he had a bit of a poor showing. Some really bad shot selection by him and just not smart basketball at times… and he somehow finished with 19 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds.

Think they probably played a C- game tonight and won which they would not have gotten away with last year against inferior competition.

It's not just you, he's shooting 36.8% from the floor against really poor competition. Despite that, he's averaging almost 20 points per game based on sheer volume, and somehow the team is averaging 87.5ppg despite him missing 24 FG attempts so far this year. That won't fly when we get into the meat of our schedule and we aren't rebounding quite as effectively.

I said it last week I'll say it again: I know he won't, but Coach Shrews needs to shut down his perimeter shooting. He was 1-7 last night against an inferior opponent. He criticized his own son early last year for being a < 30% shooter from 3.

It's nice to be 2-0 averaging almost 90 points against horrible teams and be able to say our offensive game hasn't scratched its full potential. He'll settle in.

Maybe he's allowing him to shoot 3s now... almost like the whole Wimbush become a pocket passer against Ball State thing?

If he doesn't show improvement over the next 2-3 weeks, it gets shut down.

Also keep in mind, if Burton REALLY struggles for sustained period of time, it'll only make his draftability look worse. So, I anticipate a happy medium will be reached where he takes some high quality 3s but doesn't force it.

Yeah Shrews doesn’t seem like the kind of coach who will indulge poor shot selection for long.

Was critical of the work they did in the portal but Allocco is a stud. The big Ukrainian is a positive contributor. Nice to see the team have an offensive identity this year even when Burton is off the floor
Allocco reminds me a lot of Cormac Ryan. Smart player, good perimeter shooter, and a welcomed addition. Needed someone else to stretch the floor, if he can continue to shoot the 3 that well along with Shrews, that takes a TON of pressure off of Burton and makes this offense dangerous. Having two wings who can shoot with a G who can attack the paint as good as Burton? Good luck defending that. Plus, Tae Davis and the bigs look much improved. Njie looks like a completely different basketball player.
Team looking good so far.

GTown is bad, but that's still an impressive road win against a proud program who was hoping to make an early statement, much like ND did. Great way to start a football Saturday with a MBB win.

As several of us have commented early on here, I think my favorite stat of the day was Burton only taking 2 3pt attempts. Still not an efficient game for him at 4/11, but 8/8 from the charity stripe is a good omen.

We'll know a lot more next week with that slate of opponents they have coming up. Yowzers.
Yep. Rutgers and Houston will present a great opportunity for this team, a split would be nice. Either win should be a nice resume boost if ND contends for a bubble spot.

Yeah they have a few more warmup games before then. Hard to not be encouraged right now with how well the team played on the road vs the Hoyas. Wonder if the Irish might be ranked if they take care of business and win both games this week? Would be pretty exciting to be ranked going into those Rutgers and Houston games Thanksgiving week.

I doubt that would happen; I was expecting them to be in the "others receiving votes" category but no ND after the AP poll was released today.

Another win last night. They're doing what they should be doing with the early schedule. They have Elon next and then the real competition starts against two ranked teams, one being Houston which should tell us exactly where ND is in the Shrewsberry era.

There’s actually three games in Vegas next week. We play a team from the other bracket on Saturday for first, third, or fifth place depending on how the first two games go.
Some pretty good teams in that other bracket too. Hope we escape LV with more than a donut

We played defense like a giant bag of dicks. Fucking Elon got everything they wanted.
Fact. Their zone and length can certainly be a problem all season long. But yeah… awful defending all game long.

I’m more disappointed by the sloppy play than the fact they’re losing to Elon who I suspect is going to be pretty decent. They were beating UNC late in the second half earlier this year.

By far the worst they’ve looked this year and look even worse coming out of timeouts. Top to bottom off their game tonight.

214th in KenPom.
Embarrassing loss at home.

Guys + staff could have certainly been looking ahead to the big games next week, but that was incredibly disappointing to watch down the stretch.
