My heartfelt apologies for missing the Thursday night contests, which featured Miami (FL) beating up on Bethune-Cookman, and Memphis beating Navy in what turned out to be a pretty wild and entertaining matchup.
HOWEVER, there are plenty more games to discuss this weekend! The slate is... not great. Kind of meh.
But in a year where things seem more wide-open than usual, where even the top dogs have questions and concerns, these are the weekends where things end up getting WILD.
So let's hope for some craziness, a few wacky upsets, and some general college football shenanigans... hopefully none of which involves Notre Dame. We are looking for a nice, relaxing, get-more-reps-for-Angeli afternoon.
The college football gods can save the tomfoolery for the rest of the Watch Party Grid!
FRIDAY, SEPT. 15
- Virginia might not be any good. Maryland has Taulia Tagovailoa, who is pretty good. Let Maryland provide some Friday night fireworks.
- SUPPORT THE TROOPS: Army takes on UTSA... who were 11-3 (!) and CUSA champs last year. UTSA is good football!
- SUPPORT THE TROOPS II: Air Force has the most diverse offense of all the service academies. Tune in and enjoy. This is a defacto night cap.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 16 - SLEEPY NOONERS
- You have a meh slate, you get 6 games to pick from, because they're all bad but intriguing, like wondering if FSU might start sleepy against a bad BC team
- UPSET ALERT: Penn State has Drew Allar making his first big road start in Champaign. Appropriate that Bert Bielema gets a BIG NUDE SATURDAY appearance.
- UPSET ALERT: BK has a two-score favorite starting at noon against a team that they should handle, but is competent enough to cause problems. We've seen this movie before!
- Wiscy dropped one against WSU last week in one of our UPSET ALERT specials. Put this one here instead of KSU/Mizzou because I want to see how Fickell's guys bounce back.
- Cards/Hoosiers feels like one that could be stupid and entertaining.
- Shoutouts to Iowa State going on the road to Athens, OH. This is NOT an upset alert, because Ohio is tough. A Bobcat win would not be totally surprising.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 16 - AFTERNOON TEA
- GO IRISH. BEAT CHIPPEWAS. Take care of business and keep everyone healthy ahead of next week. Get Angeli in for the 3rd quarter, don't give Estime any carries after the second quarter. Maybe let Liafau and BenMo rest most of the game.
- UPSE... JK, UGA rolls again.
- Tune in and see if our old friend Tyler Buchner plays.
- The first meeting in the history of these two schools. Minnesota has fun WR's and is 2-0, but UNC has Drake Maye.
- SCOUT THE OPPS: Ohio State warms up for next week with the Hilltoppers. Tune in and see what you can as OSU stays vanilla against an overmatched opponent.
- Immediately following ND/CMU on Peacock, you can watch Washington visit distracted Sparty. Tuck Comin' was supposed to be a warning... but not like that.
I'll add the late games and night caps in a bit.
