Thats all fair, but even without his running ability, his leadership, moxy and experience playing in big games upgrades the roster without a doubt unless you have an insanely higher opinion than Angeli than most.
If there's nobody better realistically available, we should try to get Rising, but he's a significantly lower level player than Hartman. I'm just hopeful that we'll be able to get someone better.

Remember how excited people were about Hudson Card before we got Hartman? I'm hoping Rising is this year's Card, who BTW has the 94th QBR in the country

I don't know that Hartman will end up being better than Rising.

Good point, Hartman hasn't been the transcendent QB we hoped for

The point stands though- if these guys were that good, they'd be in the NFL instead of spending a 6th or 7th year in college. I don't think Rising is that special

this is exactly the situation. i think the only guy that might be available to really change our trajectory next year is pratt, and the only reason he comes back is if he thinks he can raise his draft stock. right now he is a legit third or fourth rounder, not just some 7th round/ufa type. next year we are going to find out how good freeman has been at development. it would be nice to have 4 qbs. i'll trust freeman to manage the roster, development and expectations.

I'm not opposed of a transfer in but, I'm hopefully optimistic for Angeli to be a true 'threat' for the starting position in '24. I understand the depth issue, of course. Just want to see this kid come out and hit on 'all eight cylinders'.....

He looked good in garbage time. Confident, calm, accurate. Obviously easier to make plays when you're up by 50

Do you really spend a bunch of money on a transfer quarterback? I think angeli could’ve legitimately led us to a 7-2 record so far. I don’t even know if the transfer portal qb is worth it next year. If you can’t make something out of angeli, Minchey and carr that’s on the coaching staff

Absolutely. You don’t want to go into College Station with an inexperienced QB. ND should be going after the best grad transfer at every single position of need.

Agree, we could definitely be 7-2 with Angeli

I don’t think Angeli wins ND that game at Duke.

That's the thing. If they're a true stud, they're not transferring. They're either starting for a top team or in the draft. And - both because of admissions and our pipeline - we're not really in the market for the five-star sophomore who's stuck behind a stud.
We need a grad transfer who's played a lot of ball but wants to up his draft stock and/or make more money than he will as a 6th round draft pick. There are only so many of those. Even fewer who've won a P5 conference title.

Totally agree. But what did Hartman do to win Ohio state? And he was downright atrocious against Louisville. Angie could’ve been better in either of those

He scored on a scamper in the Blue and Gold last season I think. He's not lightning fast, but can scramble when he needs to I think.
That's right, I remember.

I'd feel a lot more confident in him as the starter if I know he can escape pressure when needed.
Brady Quinn type of running might be enough.

I'd be surprise if Hartman isn't faster than Angeli
Hartman isn't really slow, right? Doesn't the slow mesh depend on the QB having a little bit of scamper when he pulls it? Unless, of course, he ends up throwing it instead. I know he doesn't run much, but I thought the point of him coming here was to show scouts he could run a pro style offense. Not quite as mobile as Book, but more mobile than Pyne and certainly Coan.

Get Hartman to sell ND to Maye. The would be extremely good for the team and university.

He ain’t winning big at UNC.
