2023 Transfer QB

I’ve watched my oddly fair share of KSU games and Howard never looked good when he was backing up Skylar Thompson in the past. He looked night and day better this year. Better than Martinez at throwing the ball.

Not sure I’m buying that KSU doesn’t want to burn his RS. They stand a chance to win the B12, it is definitely worth it if Howard is better. Due to COVID he has two years if he wants anyways. He’ll be in line to start at KSU next year but whenever preserving a RS comes up for an upperclassmen, I feel like transferring is a possibility. Could be good open competition type transfer.

Any thoughts on Will Howard from KState? He just balled out against Baylor again last night. And he’s from PA

Mentioned him earlier. KSU has an interesting decision as the team is wildly better throwing the ball with him over Martinez. He’s now at 3 games, they say they want to RS him but are in the drivers seat for the B12. Intriguing.

Is there a bigger qb name than that guy going to Tennessee. His name is massive.

So does this guy just subscribe to 247 and is parroting Loy's board post, or does he actually know anything?

Based on the fact that he says he can't "speculate" (not "reveal") what the name is, then says something that would indicate it's a notable name, tells me it's probably the former.

Is he the one that leaked the other QB visit that got cancelled?

It’s a four star so most likely Minchey Avery or Vizzina I thought maybe Novasad but he has a game on Saturday. My best bet is either Vizz or Minchey. Avery seems locked into KSU

So the other day The Shamrock podcast was talking about Devin O’Leary being a realistic grad transfer. Since he tore his pec and couldn’t practice in the spring, is that really a guy to target? If he can’t compete for the job in the spring that just seems like a bad idea imo.

It’s a risk for sure, but on the flip side, there isn’t many legit NFL prospects with seasons like his 2021 under their belts looking to transfer.

Everyone in the portal will have some baggage.

If he’s healthy, he’s a really good QB. But I think they need someone who can hit the ground running and compete, and I don’t know that O’Leary can be that guy with his recovery timetable.

I doubt a torn pec is going to keep him out of spring.

He tore it in mid-October and recovery for a torn pectoral is generally 3-4 months. That puts him back in action by February at the latest and spring practice generally begins in March.

I can't remember which podcast it was, but the hosts made note that with it being on his throwing side recovery could be more like 4-6 months I believe.

If we take a transfer do we do something with our current scholarships? Doesnt make sense to have 6 scholarship QBs on the team. We don't need to name names but does the staff do something there?

We really only need 4 but I dont see them taking away two

Well if 4 of those 6 aren't startable whether it's because of injury or talent, it doesn't really matter. Clearly Powlus isn't an FBS level QB. Can't trust Buchner to stay healthy. Pyne is Pyne. Jury is out on Angeli. Minchey ain't playing any real minutes as a freshman.

Some (including the staff) thought similar this year. Oh we're fine, we have 4 QBs. Look how that has turned out.

If he isn't going to be able to go in the spring then you pretty much have to give him the starting job sight unseen. There's no way you can do a true, full evaluation just based on a couple weeks in fall camp.

I was in on getting Leary -but, if the injury keeps him out of Spring practice that's a no from me. Need someone to can get those reps, gel with the team and challenge the other guys. I wouldn't feel comfortable with a transfer QB only having the fall pre-season to prep.

I believe that’s the expected implication
Boy, that would be risky. I don't really see a path to him even being a day two draft pick as of now.
I'd say reading some mock sites its more likely he'd be a late round to UDFA as of right now.

Of course, if he goes out and plays great over this next month winning a PAC 12 title in the process that will likely all change.

I would assume he is thinking his draft stock can’t really go higher and he’s had injuries in the past

How much longer until an underclassmen has a monster year, says “I’m open” after it, and gets $10 million from A&M or somebody for one season? It has to happen soon.

A good example would be Bryce Young after last season. He could have gotten PAID by someone as a rental.
