How much longer until an underclassmen has a monster year, says “I’m open” after it, and gets $10 million from A&M or somebody for one season? It has to happen soon.

A good example would be Bryce Young after last season. He could have gotten PAID by someone as a rental.

It happened last season; it just wasn't a quarterback. We'll see Jordan Addison in two weeks.

That probably means he's entering the draft, right?
Yes, per this article you are correct. I looked it up because I had no idea why he would transfer from a program he's had great success with, sounds like he's eying the draft.

I think the most realistic possibility of a transfer would be Cade McNamara. The irony would be palpable.

Hell no. I would prefer no transfer at all to taking him.

He’s already getting paid.

I agree though in the sense someone like Drake Maye (he won’t leave because he’s from a UNC family) could enter the portal after this season and cash in big time.

I would assume he is thinking his draft stock can’t really go higher and he’s had injuries in the past
Yep, I understand the injury aspect.
It just seems crazy to me, because there about 5-7 good spots he could walk into right away that if things broke right for him would greatly improve his draft stock.
I'm sure he has agents telling him he can be a 2nd - 3rd rd. pick this draft cycle, I would just be surprised if that happened.

The thread was discussing Hudson Card, implication seeming to be that someone like Card (unproven higher potential compared to others) wouldn’t be exactly their #1 choice

I like we are looking forward to a transfer as well. It looks like they are making a concerted effort to improve the QB room

Van Dyke and Armstrong fit equally well.

The injury gives me pause but they're going to have way more information than we will when they make a decision.
Cade McNamara might be another possibility. I'd take him if we can't get anyone else, but he's not my top choice.

We’d be 9 - 1 with McNamara. Potentially 10 - 0. He would not be my first choice. Probably not even my 5th choice. But I’m not above taking a QB off as 13 - 1 season that included beating OSU at home. Something we’d like to do next year.

A healthy Leary is easily the top option.

That he probably won't be healthy for the Spring is a concern. Yes, he'll be ready for the fall. But, I'd love to have someone come in and compete and get reps in the Spring.

Explain to me why you and others want him so bad? I don't fucking get it.
I threw his name out there at some point, not that I "want him so bad" but I think he'd be a solid, veteran candidate to improve the room, to be sure. he's a competent game manager, takes care of the ball, and led scUM to a B1G tite and playoff berth last year. That's comparable to Ian Books 2018 season (I would take 2020 Book over McNamara any day).

If anyone's looking for a Joe Burrow type impact, that situation was a one-off occurrence, and shouldn't be an expectation. Even if we get Jack Coan 2.0, I'd take it.

I'll take anyone who wants to come and compete in this room, I'm not sure if there will be a bonafide stud looking to grad transfer, I hope there is.

If Leary is healthy and the staff feels good about him no question he's the top option, IMO.

I don't want him so bad, but I'd take him if he's the best we can do. I'd be surprised if he wasn't the starter next year if he came to ND.

I want Hudson Card.

I want Card too. Major upgrade over Buchner and I think he has two years — could be wrong. It’ll be two years before any commit or current QB on the roster will be ready. I’m assuming Buchner transfers in this scenario.

Van Dyke and Armstrong have been so bad this year that they cant be your top options
100% agreed here. Hard to imagine the coaches evaluating and seeing anything otherwise. Coan was a totally different situation than these two guys.

He's pretty damn good.
At what?

Handing the ball off?

Throwing swing passes?

Throwing 25 yard bombs down the field?

We can do better. Is he solid? sure. But he's not even the top 5. Apparently heading to Cincinnati anyway.

I understand being concerned about Armstrong but Van Dyke’s numbers look fine.

EDIT: I mean, they aren't great but they don't set off alarm bells. Meanwhile, his numbers in 2021 for a mostly functional team were very good.

A good group of 5 QB might be the best fit, i.e. someone who is a starter and still expects to have to compete for the job at ND. Don't ask me who. I pay no attention to those teams.

And please spare me the "Buchner might transfer" crap. That's last year's big mistake.
