His arm strength seems above average but his accuracy seems below.
This is my biggest concern. Even with the OL struggling there were plays to actual WRs to be had in the Marshall game. Buchner was not accurate enough to hit them. I particularly remember an overthrow to Lenzy deep in the middle of the field. It's one of those things that is only a good play call if it works-because you have a QB that can reliably hit it.

Right. Yes, he was playing behind a bad version of this offensive line, but he also was airmailing wide open receivers. Buchner's accuracy remains an issue, and I don't know why I should think that won't remain an issue after missing another season.

Ideally i think Buchner's best role is what he had last year. Basically as a change of pace QB who can compliment a more pure passer
In my green tinted fantasy world:

ND gets a sharpshooter at QB that can make checkdowns and be very accurate, and Buchner is used like Taysom Hill.

A kid like Leary with Buchner used in a package / garbage time is best case for next year. Not ready to fully write the kid off but he can't be the starter next year.

Buchner could 100% be the starter next year. His accuracy can be questioned but there is no way you can make a true conclusion on the small sample size and him being under constant pressure. You guys seem to think he is the only one to airmail wide open recievers but it is quite common. Every QB including Tom Brady miss deep throws and wide open receivers often. Its the fact that they than will get clean pockets and time other downs to hit the easy throws and still hit the occasional deep throws for a quick hit TD. Buchner never got the time to do that. His whole starting career, a whole 2 games, he was under constant pressure and still you guys don't give him credit for hitting the throws he did hit. My only true concern about Buchner is his ability to be a running QB and stay healthy through a season, that's what really scares me. Also let me say we need to bring in the best portal QB we can no matter Buchner's skill or health. Let them battle it out and let the best man win. I will be pulling hard for Buchner as I still think he could be special if he is not made of glass.

Opening Internal IE Oddsmaker Transfer Board:

- Leary +300

I haven’t actually watched or know much about him. 6’1 NJ kid sounds like when does he enroll? The book on him I think is the generic stereotype. Tough kid, sneaky athletic but not dual, good CFB arm strength but not off the charts
He has a cannon arm.

I like Leary's tape, he does seem to stare down his WR's a lot, but overall looks good.
The question should be...do we think ND can complete for a NC w/ a QB like Leary? I don't think so, but I'm no Koon when it comes to reviewing tape.

PS, NC State's WR's are better than what we have rn, that's for sure.

Coincidentally, I actually signed up for PFF's free trial this morning.

Blake Fisher is a 71.3, Patterson 67.7, Lugg 73.5, and Correll 66.6.

Really surprising about Lugg and Patterson.

Please let me know if PFF is worth it.

.... not that it has anything to do with the thread subject, but I wish that people would FINALLY get on the Josh Lugg fan train (Like I've been shouting about, due to personally grading all the OLine plays all season.) Next to Alt, Lugg has by far been the most consistent blocker we have had. Patterson's rating doubtless suffers from the first two games when he was getting back up to game speed. Fisher had three (at least) sleep-walking games --- I assume that Harry kicked his a$$ and that's why he's back to roadgrading people (he still causes our most pass-protection problems, however. (Correll would, but he gets help from both Guards.) ) Josh Lugg is a GOOD OLineman. We are going to miss him.

One last thing on Big Josh: I was watching one of our last two games ---- don't remember which. Pass play. No one directly in front of him on the line-up. (this happens a fair amount of time with Josh, like the opponent doesn't always see the use of trying anything with power against him --- Same thing used to happen with Tommy Kraemer, who was/is a similar player.) Josh leaned over to stone the guy who was trying to bull Correll. Suddenly a linebacker appeared on a stunt right off the edge of that block. Josh reached out and put his right hand in the center of the guy's chest --- AND THE GUY LIFTED OFF THE GROUND until Josh took his hand away.

He is THE BIG LUGG in our OLine.

His play, especially the last few games, has been fantastic. Asmar Bilal-esque season from him.

Had Slovis, Armstrong, orDaniels transferred to ND and playing like they have, I can only envision the mindless TR bashing I’ve missed out on.

On second thought, nevermind.

Any thoughts on Will Howard from KState? He just balled out against Baylor again last night. And he’s from PA
