Downside scenario with Armstrong is worse than Pyne, who generally was ok at holding on to the football all things considered.
Yeah, we don't need a Brett Favre gun slinger who will cost us the game(s). We need a more capable QB than we have in Pyne who will protect the ball as well, and whose upside outweighs his downside. . . Card anyone? :)

Agreed. The two pick sixes that Armstrong threw to start the game against Pitt were egregiously bad decisions.

Watching Card's throws in the previously posted video, there's a lot to like. He's got a quick short motion and delivers the ball with velocity. I see that especially with those quick outs. Receives the snap and Boom, ball delivered quickly, decisively and accurately. It feels like Buchner has this habit of having to do a "pat the ball" kind of thing before delivering the ball on about half his throws. Was surprised how fast Card was considering he was dealing with a bum ankle. I wish there were some decent designed running plays to digest, but sadly Texas didn't make that part of their offense.

Frank Harris. He would change the projections for this team and has motivation to put a year on tape at a big boy school while cashing NIL checks.
I wouldn't complain about taking him. He plays this Saturday, right? So even if he planned to enter the portal we wouldn't be hearing anything yet.

When you could make your own school, I always made IUSB or Ivy Tech and turned them into national powerhouses with a season ending Notre Dame rivalry game…
I hated playing ND and avoided it like tha plague (met them in a couple of natties).

Didn't sit well with me beating up on the squad I love in that pretend universe haha

He also has 14 more touchdowns in basically an identical number of attempts.
14 more TD's and 15 less INT's with the same number of attempts and yardage. . . I don't see the upside of Armstrong unless he was the only option. then hope he can learn how to "manage the game" a little better. Fortunately, based upon IrishLax's intel, it doesn't sound like we will lack for options.

So a name not in the portal
Correct... yet, but he would disprove your theory there. Although I disagree with your premise in the first place. Not having great game film isn't the reason all qbs enter the portal. Their will be really good to borderline great qbs that enter the portal this year. Card doesn't fit that description. Harris does and I think he'll be at another school next year, but he's at the top of a long list that I would stack ahead of Card as options.

A name I’ve been hearing that might grad transfer is Greyson McCall from coastal Carolina. He would be close to the top of my list if he does

Yeah, he would be pretty great. It would make sense he looks to transfer if Chadwell really looks like he is going to end up somewhere else.

He straight up posted a tweet on Twitter earlier in the week that he won't be transferring to ND. He has since deleted it, though so I can't embed.

Didn’t see that, but have heard he will more than likely be transferring whether it’s to ND or not

You can't focus on Armstrong's 2022 campaign. Virginia had a new staff and he was running a completely new offense from that run by Mendehall, which is far closer to what Rees runs.

65% completion percentage, 31-10 TD/INT ratio, another 9 TDs rushing. I'm confident you get that guy, and not what we saw during the 2022 campaign.

Plus, you'd have a real life Leprechaun at QB.

With Pyne leaving it's pretty obvious now that spring ball and early fall camp will be Buchner vs Transfer for the starting job. Should make for an interesting spring.

But you can’t ignore it either

What was the problem with Armstrong this year? He had a great 2021 and I was really hoping he'd hit the portal last year and come to ND.
I don’t think anyone really knows. Some have speculated the OC leaving and lack of talent around him caused his numbers to nosedive, while others wonder if his 21 season was an anomaly.

Idk if you’re ND if you can gamble on the upside of that 21 season if you really need a guy who can plug n play next fall.

I mean we can do better than Armstrong, right? Seems risky betting on which version of him shows up to campus.
Would you feel better if his last two seasons were switched? Ball out this past year and had a horrible the year before?

Where is Phil going to transfer and begin his 2nd round of cultural appropriation?
I can see the IG post now. "Actually the Dropkick Murphys are from Quincy and BC is in Chestnut Hill and both of them steal glory by playing For Boston."

Seriously though, could he wind up back home at Pitt? Narduzzi doesn't want to throw the ball anyway. Do they have anyone decent between Slovis (who sucks) and Minchey? (oh, wait...)

Yes, that's called progress. What we're potentially dealing with is regression.
So when he loses his entire offensive line and OC and plays poorly (which we saw the first few games of the year) it means nothing and means we should definitely look elsewhere?

I don't have a dog in the fight, I don't care who we get. I just feel like we can't overlook everything he lost and that he had zero time this past season.
