Who is defined as a blue chip prospect? Is it a 4 star or higher?

The dichotomy should be Top 100 prospects honestly. Bama, OSU, UGA, OU, etc. all land an outsized portion of the top 100 prospects. That's what really vaults a team into playoff/natty contention.

Would definitely paint the same picture but I think at least for now the BCR has gained popularity because of its 100% percentage. In that 100% of champions since inception meet the criteria. Clemson’s natty wins would probably put a dent in doing it as only Top 100 not 4 star.

100% of what? Champ teams in the top 10 in BCR or something?

All Champions have a BCR rating of 50% or higher. So 100% of Champion teams have a BCR of 50% or more, which is probably why they do 4 and 5 stars instead of top 100 guys.

BCR is just a simplified, less accurate version of the 247 team talent composite. I'm not sure why it gets so much attention. I'd much rather have a 60% BCR with those 60% all being top 100 kids than an 70% BCR with all 70% being in the 300-350 range.

I also found this one from another site. It's the 247 Composite 2021 ROSTER rating based strictly on the recruiting ratings of each school's 85 man roster. The top 3 have a little separation from everyone else. I don't believe their 2022 rating has been released yet.

I think that’s the point and why it gets attention, simplified. I’ve heard Bud first hand say it’s not meant to be any in depth measure by any means. But above 50% = good, 100% = success rate is intentionally as basic you can get. More just denotes who the have and have nots are not anything more critical.

Agree they absolutely need to figure out Carr. But beyond that, I don't know how much movement there'll be among the QBs at this point. NIL changes things.

Looking at 247 Composite, there are nine QBs ranked in the Top 100. Several - Nico, Dante, Rashada - likely have heavy NIL deals locking them in place. Arch isn't playing games. Nelson committed to Lincoln Riley and Riley isn't going anywhere. Arnold seems pretty solid with Oklahoma.
That leaves Vizzina (ha) and whichever of Holstein and Lonergan does not wind up at Bama. And you've still got Georgia, A&M, Ohio State and LSU in the market. That's going to be tough.

Our best bet of getting an elite QB in '23 is turning Carr into a '23. Beyond that, sure take another run at Vizzina and Arnold (maybe Venables bombs or that new OC gets hired away?) but I'd start working down that list a bit. We need a QB in this class, even if he's not elite.
Novosad is an elite QB if you go off of his Elite 11 alone. He beat Dante according to the Elite 11 staff. Minchey was also ranked top 8. Both were clearly underrated before camps. To be top 10 in this deep of a QB class is pretty impressive.

A guy from the Elite 11 was on IB and said there is a top 5 QB who isn’t fully committed to his team…
Ryan Roberts was asked about it & he said he talked with Driskell & they agreed they wouldn’t say who it was on their show and let the kid make his own announcement.

I’m guessing Nelson at USC. There have been a lot of rumblings about him not being happy. But these guys are talking like someone isn’t committed and will announce it.

Not happy that Dante and Nico got more bag probably.

Maybe he said top 5. I thought he was maybe talking about Holstein.

Top 5 by Elite 11 standards or Top 5 by composite standards?

Top 5 Elite 11 is Dante, JJ Kohl, Emory Williams, Malachi Nelson, and Kenny Minchey.

Honestly the final 4 wouldn't surprise me one bit if any of them weren't solid.

Gotta drive up those engagement numbers!

And Driskell definitely comes off as one of those guys that is like "you wouldn't even believe the things I know that I can't tell you!" instead of just... not talking about those things at all, like the majority of the other professionals on the beat lol.

(Tom Loy is the best on the beat right now, but he's getting blasted about his handling of the Moore saga for good reason, and he is ALSO a guy that is usually like "there's more to this story, I'll tell you some day!" but at least he usually spills the beans at some point.)

I think the Kyle Kelly guy at Rivals is really good.
He is from an OSU site originally, so not a ND homer & not an OSU fanboy either, so really honest & straight forward.
Ryan Roberts is good, he is just attached to IB.

Unless I'm missing something, why wouldn't this just be Novosad? He's obviously still on the market and the guy could've just misremembered the final ranking (#6).

They literally talked about Novasad right before that and how he was open to other schools & talked about that for a minute, then transitioned into the mystery QB.
So I’m guessing two different guys?

Elite 11 had it as

1. Arnold
2. Novosad
3. Malachi
4. Dante
5. Avery Johnson

Considering he was an Elite 11 guy, I assume he used this list? Considering he just finished talking about Novosad, Dante and AJ just committed, I’d guess it’s Nelson, as Reaper alluded to.

I think by any ranking metric if someone publicly wavers it’ll look right and someone doesn’t then it won’t be mentioned again

FWIW, Tom Lemming went on Chris Zorich’s emergency BK to LSU podcast and revealed that he had an interesting conversation with Nelson’s father. Lemming said the dad grew up really liking ND and that ND would’ve been a real contender for his son, but Kelly and the staff got on him really late. Lincoln Riley already had a 2 year relationship with Nelson and his family by the time ND called.

Any chance its Arnold? IIRC, a big part of the reason he chose Oklahoma was because they got Lebby as OC, but on the Split Zone Duo podcast they were saying how Lebby might be getting a HC job soon, specifically mentioning the Auburn job which is likely to come open this year. Oklahoma also doesn't really have a great offensive recruiting class at the moment, so if Arnold is thinking his OC might leave and he wouldn't have a very talented supporting cast on offense, maybe he is looking around.

Nelson is Southern California. By looking at his Instagram, I think it’s safe to say South Bend isn’t the “vibe” for him.

Didn't someone on here say that CV started to follow some ND targets on twitter?
I think it was Braylon James following CV on social media and CV trying to recruit Hanafin to Clemson. CV was recently in attendance for the announcement of a high 4* DL from Alabama who turned down Saban and picked Clemson.
