While those 5 getting TDs does get us to 35 pending extra points, I’d be pretty surprised if Tommy Rees and Marcus Freeman scored the Touchdowns themselves
HIghly plausible Rees and Freeman score just as much as Pyne Saturday.

ND will get embarrassed Saturday at UNC. This team is so incredibly undisciplined after showing some week 1 promise. The UNC OC will be gyrating and laughing at Tommy while he is showing him how it’s done.

Been a fan since 1982 and this is one of if not the MOST pathetic teams I have ever seen on the field.

They should be 0-3 but I guess luck happens every once in awhile.

lol. Don't get me wrong....I want to win but I'm realistic and not stuck in the Holtz era like a lot of people seem to be.

We are just not a good football team. Anyone who thinks different is just a homer and blind. It's simple to see that this team is NOT good. Like at all

The Holtz era? I think I'm just stuck in the most recent era where we won 10+ games for 5 years straight.

ND - 31
UNC - 20

I've grown more optimistic as the week has gone on.

Drake Maye isn't Sam Howell, yet.

This isn't the same group of UNC skill players as 2020.

This is a better ND secondary than 2020 and 2021.

I believe the offense builds off of last week's second half performance against a highly, highly suspect UNC defense.

Run the damn ball, 34-23.

ND 30

I hope I'm wrong. Could easily see the score reversed and ND winning. But until they prove they can do it for a whole game, I'm not banking on this team just yet.

Only realistic chance Saturday is to perform like the team in the second half of the Cal game, run the ball, control the clock and be efficient as you can be scoring TD's. If we can get a lead hopefully UNC presses and we can exploit that. Our defense is something they haven't seen yet this season. Also, eliminate the freebie penalties on both sides of the ball. Hoping the semi brings the discipline trunk cuz we need it.

Agree! We have the horses on defense....we just need the offense to be less "offensive" 🤣

UNC beat GA State by 7. Georgia State is now 0-4 after a 17 points loss to Coastal last night.

This UNC team is not that scary, guys.
UNC's offense hasn't seen a defense like ND's yet this year.

ND's offense hasn't seen a defense like UNC's yet this year.

Because of these two truths, I think this game is a legit toss up. The entire reason I leaned towards UNC rests solely on how inept and dysfunctional our offense has been this year. This could be a coming out party for the offense, but if they continue to sputter with bad QB play, dropped passes, penalties, etc....I don't think ND scores enough points to win. Even if the defense holds their own and keeps UNC in check, ND's offense still has to score. I guess we'll see if they're up to the task.

I’ll have some faith in the rest of the season if ND somehow pulls this one off. UNC isn’t a good a team but this ND offense is haunting.

Dammit, I loathe your pessimism but you've won me back with a Punch Out quote. This is literally my ringtone:

Back to football: I posted in the UNC thread with some of the numbers, but UNC has played some really, really bad defenses up to this point, which is inflating their offensive stats. This is by far the best defense they've seen all year. Meanwhile, we've played some pretty darn good defenses up to this point, all three are at least above-average, so I expect to see some more offensive success this Saturday against one of the absolute worst defenses in the country. Bad UNC defenses isn't a one-off thing, they've been dreadful under Mack Brown.

That’s what concerns me, too. Add in the addition of Downs & other skill players being available, it could be Drake Maye’s coming out party. But…like u said…he hasn’t see a D like the Irish. ND has to live up to that equation though. If they take this game off like they did vs Marshall, ND will get boatraced. If they allow UNC to get a ground game going like Marshall did, it will get ugly as Maye will have plenty of time to find a receiver w/ the run game established (they’ve struggled running the ball thus far vs inferior teams)

Chizik knows Rees will try to replicate the run game the way they did in the 2nd half vs Cal. It’s ND’s only chance to give Pyne a shot. He also knows Pyne is an undersized less-mobile QB who could be goaded into throwing it to the other team. Throwing a pick six to a floundering defense is all the momentum they need to gain confidence. Let’s hope Pyne got his nerves calmed last week and it maintains.

I’ll be interested to see if ND can contain Downs. He’s going to get his catches but where he hurts opponents is w/ YAC. I read where this offseason they had Downs learn every WR position so he can move around based on matchup. Hell w/o Downs, I’d take the UNC WR Corps over what ND has. Their other WR have excelled in Downs absence so Maye will have no shortage of capable hands to throw too. Finally, that Cal offense was atrocious but it was almost good enough to beat ND or at least force OT. Hope they have a better strategy for defending the QB on 3rd & longs.

I visited Keenan Stadium to watch ND face UNC back in 2008. ND was winning at halftime. I literally get back to my seat for the first drive of the 2nd half & Clausen throws a pick six. ND never recovered and lost a heartbreaker. For a basketball school, UNC fans probably hold that ND win at home as one of their fondest memories...which is said b/c that ND team was bad & UNC was still in the Butch Davis era where they were looking to be a real player in the ACC. Remember Marvin Austin?

Can't let UNC get ahead, this is not an offense designed to come from behind.

I think ND runs for 200 yards and Pyne passes for 200 yards. Estime feasts and Pyne exploits seams in the secondary.

I think the ND DBs put on a clinic. UNC may pass the ball 50+ times but I really think they will have met their match with this defense playing bend but don't break.

Time for an unpopular comment: no idea (really) who wins, but predict that Drew Pyne plays a decently good game, and no one on IE gives him any credit afterwards.

I think if he throws the ball on the full to either Mayer, Styles and/or Tyree as many as 12 times most will be content.

It’s a comfortable win for the team that wins. It’s a flip of the coin for which team though. Everyone keeps talking about ND’s offense given NC’s terrible defense, but the defense has an opportunity to make a statement.

Are you sure you are referencing posters on this board and not the ladies at the SB salon from the late 80s? Cite one post since Marshall talking about ND as good as the glory days.
