I like Brey, but it's probably time to step aside. Wonder who would be a fit for ND post Brey?

I hate that I’ve reached this point. I am actively cheering for ND to lose. I really have no clue what it takes for Brey to be fired.
Same. The more they lose, the more impossible it becomes to ignore.

And next years team is gonna be absolutely atrocious.

I just don’t get how they are so bad. Just doesn’t make sense

Which makes no sense unless Paul Atkinson was the most underrated player in the entire country and possibly ND history, as he's the only major piece we lost last season.

I think Brey has lost his touch and this whole team just lost any sense of identity. It's all between the ears for this group.
Well there was Prentice Hubb and Blake Wesley...I figured Hammond, Starling, and Lubin would be at least as good as the guys we lost. Obviously a mistake.

No mistakes in your second paragraph. Sad thing is they appear to care. They just suck.

I don’t think I even said this during the 18-19 season but this team fucking sucks and it just doesn’t make any sense. So embarrassing

Helluva quote there from Brey. Also added he misread the team tonight, he thought they'd "chest a little more." Has he not been watching this team play all year?

"I certainly haven’t been able to help them much. I just told them that. I’ve done a horrible job with you fellas. I thought we would be more ready to compete.” And said he's run out of things to say to the team after the game.

It’s been tough to come up with the words. I just expect it to always get better because there is no way this team, can be this bad. Just no way Brey coaches through this.

I really don't understand why Brey is allowed to continue coaching.

This isn't just a talent issue or a schematic issue.

This team has quit. I can't imagine why you let a coach continue to work with a team that has quit on him.

If this doesn't resonate with Swarbrick then I'm losing some confidence in Savvy Jack.

I know besides last season, the previous few years have not been good, but I will always have a soft spot for Brey. Was a freshman at HCC in the front row of the student section for the 5 overtime Louisville game. Got to see the back to back elite 8 runs in person. I’m gonna do my best to wipe this year from my memory and hope he can at least somewhat save face with his exit.

It seems bleak, but they have a good recruiting class coming in and if the freshman class stays intact they have a strong core. With the transfer portal there’s no reason a coach couldn’t build a good foundation year 1.

One would think that Brey will be pushed into resigning at the end of the year. He doesn't have that same fire and passion, and clearly he and the scouting department have missed on too many players.

It's time to close up shop on this staff and start fresh.

My biggest surprise was Goodwin not turning into a 20 a night player, and I think it's more to the fact that he pretty much reached his ceiling as a sophomore.

Goodwin's dad also has cancer and is taking a toll on the family.

I was at that game too and a bunch of other really fun moments around those years like beating #1 Syracuse, UK, etc. Also would see Brey in Legends and he could not have been nicer, BK was an arrogant jerk on the other hand. Unfortunately I think Brey is reaching the end but I am not going to turn on him because of some struggles. He had some great moments, is one of the greatest men’s basketball coaches in ND history, and always represented himself and the University well. I get this team is really bad and Brey has not done a good job this season but seeing people actively rooting for bim to fail is gross. That Louisville game is still the coolest sporting event I have ever been to.

Its this BS thinking that'll give us two more years of Brey and his utter non performance.

I did a horrible job of clarifying as I was seeing red watching the men's hoops haha; I meant outside of Atkinson, it seemed like on paper this team was very similar to last year's team adding Hammond and expanding the roles of Wertz to "replace" Hubb, and Starling filling the Wesley hole. Obviously I was terribly mistaken.

I really thought the core of Goodwin, Nate and Ryan were going to propel us to a top 5 finish in the ACC. What a dumb thought that appeared to be now. This is the worst team we've had in quite some time.

This is very sad that this is how the Mike Brey reign will end.
Ten years ago, one would have thought the court was going to be named after him one day.

Regardless, it is time.
250th in the country on defense per KenPom. That is an embarrassment for a Power 5 conference school.

Allow him to coach out this season for his service to the university, and allow him to resign to save face.

This is where I'm at. Just really damn sad.
He's got to go.
But he should also be remembered.
Both should be true.

Give me Chris Quinn
- although I still think he's an NBA lifer
Chris Quinn would be interesting. Although, I think you are correct as far as NBA goes. Also know nothing about his coaching abilities but know the NBA loves him.
I was thinking Solomon at first but let’s just pull the culture plug and restart at this point. I mean, why not?

Maybe I have missed this? I haven't seen anyone rooting for him to fail.

What I've seen is a bunch of fans seeing that the Brey of old is no more, and what was supposed to be his greatest class has turned out to be possibly his worst. And these same fans understand that in order to get ND basketball back on track, it's going to likely take some hard decisions and changes in the program.

I (and I'd say a lot of us) absolutely love what Brey brought to ND basketball over the years. And the memories many of those teams gave us, but lets be real here. This team is bad, and the future roster is even worse looking. Change is needed, unless somehow a miracle happens.

This! Mike Brey was a fabulous coach for ND up until the vaunted class came in 5 years ago.

Even before the Elite 8 runs we were regularly competing for conference championships. Don’t forget the likes of Torin Francis, Chris Thomas, Luke Harangody, Kyle McAlerney, Bens Hansbrough and so much more.

It’s definitely time for a change but I’ll be forever grateful for what he’s done for ND basketball.

100% The team that I actually felt had the best final four chance was the 2010-2011 team that ran into an underrated FSU team in the round of 32.
They were the last team to beat Kemba and Uconn in Storrs before they went on their improbable run to the Big East tournament championship and NCAA Title.
The move to the ACC seemed to work at first, but man has it been very lack luster since those Elite 8 Teams.
I feel like you can even see it at home games with the student section. In the Big East days the Joyce Center was always packed and we had a solid home court advantage.
We need some life brought back into the program!
Anyone who watched Kansas State vs Kansas last night saw firsthand what a new coach can bring in their first year to a program.
Jerome Tang has turned Kansas State into serious final four contender in the matter of months.
