Thanks for that confirm. Lots of guys in 2020 still playing or being recruited at multiple positions. I figured Thomas and Smalls would eventually be Drops, but was waiting for confirm. Now that makes the LBer group a little smaller than it already was, but I think they are in great shape with Cody Simon. Also, Kevin Swint got a visit today. On top of that, I hope they expand the board to include Ethan West from Virginia and Kaden Johnson from Minnesota, but I'm sure the staff is shooting for the biggest fish on the market with such a small number to take at LBer in 2020.

QB (1) - Drew Pyne
RB (1-2) - Chris Tyree, Seth McGowan, Reggie Love
WR (2-3) - Jordan Johnson, AJ Henning, Jalen McMillan, John Humphreys, Daniel Jackson, Maliq Carr
TE (2) - Michael Mayer, Kevin Bauman
OL (1-2) - Paris Johnson, Andrew Raym, Bryn Tucker, Kevin Pyne, Andrew Gentry, Peter Skoronski, Jimmy Christ, Tosh Baker
DL (4-6) - Arik Gilbert, Darrion Henry, Rylie Mills, Cole Brevard, Xavier Carlton, Aidan Keanaaina, Braiden McGregor, Jalen Logan-Redding, Alex Ehrensberger
LB (1-2) - Sav'ell Smalls, Kalel Mullings, Curtis Jacobs, Jaheim Thomas, Cody Simon
DB (4-5) - RJ Mickens, Clark Phillips III, Kristian Story, Enzo Jennings, Darius Snow, Makari Paige, Lathan Ransom, Jalen Kimber

Disclaimer: I listed prospects at different position groups who have interest in ND, have visited a few times, or the staff has been out to see in the last few weeks of the recruiting period. I'm not guessing they come to ND, but rather pointing out some potential fits at those positions.

QB is obvious so I'd start with RB in looking at the roster for 2020. The way I see it is ND probably has room for 4-5 RB/WR's in the class. They don't lose a single RB to graduation so they'll have 6 RB's on scholarship in 2020 which is a lot to take 2 pure RB recruits in addition to those 6. I think the staff would love to add a top RB and then an AJ Henning-type of player who could play both and has positional versatility. Dream scenario would be getting Chris Tyree & AJ Henning and then two more top receivers to go along with it.

OL returns 15 scholarship guys and maybe 14 if Darnell Ewell is moved back to DLine. In terms of numbers, ND wouldn't need to take more than 1-2 guys out of necessity but I do think when all is said and done, they might take 2-3 guys because they are in it with a lot of talented dudes. I think off the bat the prize would be Paris Johnson Jr and Matt Freeman seemed to confirm they snuck him on campus in December for an unofficial and its clear that Jeff Quinn would love to flip him if possible. From there, ND has gotten every single guy I listed above to visit except for Jimmy Christ who I expect to visit in the spring at some point so they are looking pretty good at the position.

DL loses Khalid Kareem, Daelin Hayes, Julian Okwara, and Jamir Jones so they'll need somewhere between 4-6 guys. There are a lot of different variables at play with the DLine which include Ovie Oghuofo moving to Drop potentially, rumors of Jamir Jones taking a 4 games played redshirt in 2019 so he could be a two deep player in 2020, Isaiah Foskey maybe joining the squad, and Darnell Ewell moving back to DT potentially. As for the targets, I'd say that the 3 biggest by a pretty wide margin are Rylie Mills, Braiden McGregor, and Aidan Keanaaina. That's not to say ND isn't heavily recruiting Arik Gilbert, Darrion Henry, or Jalen Logan-Redding, but they seem to be going all out for the top 3 right now and the interest seems mutual from the top 3 (Jalen Logan-Redding also seems very very interested). The dream start to the DLine class would be the top 3 guys committing soon and then they can work on adding some other stars to the ranks. Once again, Elston has ND in position to do some really nice things on the trail in regards to DLine recruiting.

The Linebacker corps returns everyone except Asmar Bilal in the 2020 season so the numbers should be real small in terms of needs. I'd guess 1-2 because Asa Turner may show up and Ovie Oghuofo may or may not move to DLine. Todd Lyght has been out to the state of Washington twice in recent weeks to go big game hunting with Sav'ell Smalls. Smalls would be a gamebreaking addition to the roster, but I wouldn't consider the interest real until the kid comes across the country to visit. Kalel Mullings has essentially a two horse race between Michigan & Notre Dame with Michigan presumably on top right now. Al Washington, one of his recruiters (Don Brown is his primary recruiter I believe), just left Michigan so we'll see if that allows ND to make a move because he'd be a great add. Also, Jaheim Thomas is picking up steam in his recruitment, but he might be a Drop candidate and not a LBer. Lastly, but maybe most importantly, Cody Simon is an obvious candidate for a LBer spot because he comes from a great bloodline and has obvious ties to ND.

At Defensive Back, ND has recruited incredibly well over the last two classes and hopefully that continues with the 2020 cycle. ND loses Troy Pride Jr, Donte Vaughn, Jalen Elliott, Devin Studstill, maybe Shaun Crawford (eligible for 6th year), and maybe Alohi Gilman (5th year vs. NFL draft). This is a position group where they'll actually need a solid amount of numbers in this cycle. Thankfully, due to the work of Terry Joseph and Todd Lyght, they are in great shape with a bunch of different guys. RJ Mickens mentioned in a December interview he got a visit from Todd Lyght and wanted to return for a third visit to ND. Clark Phillips III has loads of interest in ND and hopefully makes it to ND in the spring (if he does, look out). Kristian Story surprisingly made it to ND in the fall and loved his visit. He got a visit from Terry Joseph last week and might return this spring which is huge coming from a talented Alabama native! Enzo Jennings might be the best bet for commitment of any of those guys listed above because he's visited Notre Dame multiple times and has raved about the school. Darius Snow seems to be a Michigan State lean, but he's just said he's coming to the February junior day which is great news. Lathan Ransom also confirmed his plans to visit ND for the February junior day. Jalen Kimber is another prospect to look out for out of Texas.

All in all, ND is in great shape with a lot of position groups and I think fans should be really excited about what the class might look like. This spring will give us a lot of answers as to the direction that this class is going. My guess on class size would be 21-23 guys right now. That could grow, but looks to me like a smaller class is in order for now.

NDMIA you should write for 247. Glad I am not crazy confirming the slightly smaller class. Also interesting to hear Jamir Jones may redshirt.

Probably a little extreme considering his first offer (at least on record at 247) came from BC in Nov. of 2017. A majority of his big time offers have come fairly recently.

18 months too late is extreme. 18 months late is correct. I labeled him an auto offer in May 2017. He was tearing it up that summer. I was really tuned into Bergen at the time because of Alfano. ND needed to get out in front of the crowd with him, they don't do well with Bergen kids. No big deal if they land Ransom or a handful of other prospects. Only need one good one.

So every P5 program was late in offering him, lol. Again, extreme.

Lol... Ok. They are a year too late, better? Sorry I was out ahead of the professionals with my 18 month call for an auto offer.

SIAP, thought I was part of a discussion about him on this site but couldn't find it.

Tate Johnson went to Penn through his soph year. Played with Paul Moala and RP3.
Moved to GA and now blocks for ND RB offer Tank Bigsby and played along side 4*+ OL Keondre Jones who is going to Auburn.

Since he left Penn Twp, he's received the following offers:

BC
Cincy
Florida
Louisville
Mizzou
Ole Miss
Pitt
Purdue
Vandy
WVU
and yesterday the all important...
Michigan State

Currently no one from ND follows him but he's camped at ND and they know who he is. He still follows a lot of things Michiana so IF ND were to get involved, a cascade of CB's wouldn't be surprising.

Man that dude loves putting dudes into the turf with his body slam move. Half of his highlight video blocks are holds but he seems like a mauler. Don’t know rankings or projections of OL at all, but wouldn’t you think that given ND is taking between 1-3 (aka a super small OL class) that they’ll shoot for the stars? They seem to be visiting all the top OLineman in the country in January. They seem to have traction with Kevin Pyne, Bryn Tucker, Andrew Gentry, and Tosh Baker already!

I've divorced myself from Pyne and Carmody.

Tosh Baker is going to happen.

I've got Jimmy Christ above Gentry but either one with Baker and I'm good. ND's also very involved with Jeff Persi and Noah Nelson, also true OT's. The one that surprised me is them seeing Reece Atteberry twice in 2 weeks. I'd think he's a swing with weight. John Young is coming back for a visit soon too. Quinn really seems to like them tall KY boys.

Inside they obviously have Raym and Tucker as priorities along with pipe dream Hatchett-Hatcher-always forget? Pete Skoronski's the best bet if they don't recruit over his head trying to land the first 3. Chirs Mayo's there too but I think they are afraid of his weight, as am I. I have no idea or real confidence in ND's recruiting of the OG position. Seems like ND's best OL's are all swings except for the Stanley and McG.

I bet they take no less than 4. Hope it's 3 true OT's and one of the inside guys. As much as I like Raym and Tucker, I think Skoronski is undervalued and he's a zero downside RKG that will be able to play OG or OC.

While I like him very much, my guys in Chicago say Skoronski's the best they've seen in a while and he was teammates with MSU's mauler/starter Kevin Jarvis. Naz also agreed with this.

If it was a year where they were taking 3 OG's, I think he's in the class. The only reason he and/or Skoronski aren't already on board is they are getting slow played for Raym, Tucker, Hatcher/Hatchett.

Yeah I know Skoronski is better but Barrett plays like Q, IMO. He just seems pissed off all the time at D Linemen.

2020 OL Roster (15 Scholarships)
RS SR Liam Eichenberg
RS SR Tommy Kraemer
SR Robert Hainsey
RS JR Joshua Lugg
RS JR Aaron Banks
RS JR Dillan Gibbons
RS JR Darnell Ewell
RS SO Jarrett Patterson
RS SO John Dirksen
RS SO Cole Mabry
RS SO Luke Jones
RS FR Zeke Correll
RS FR Quinn Carroll
RS FR John Olmstead
RS FR Andrew Kristofic

Even if we don't include Ewell (move to DLine), ND might not get to 4 OL recruits in this cycle. If Ewell is around and they took 4 guys then they'd be at 19 scholarship dudes on the 2020 roster. Obviously attrition will happen, but that would take a lot of attrition to get down to the appropriate numbers. Now if a Paris Johnson Jr starts looking at ND more heavily or Andrew Raym & Bryn Tucker decide later that they want in and ND already has 3 commits, then you make room, but I think 3 is a more likely number. Either way, I hope ND goes hard after Paris Johnson Jr, Andrew Raym, Bryn Tucker, Andrew Gentry, Geirean Hatchett, Jimmy Christ, and Tosh Baker because they are some big time OLine recruits and I think ND should shoot high in this cycle. Kevin Pyne is an interesting one because he essentially had a poor year against really bad competition in high school but is still an intriguing 6'8'' OL prospect that I think ends up in the ND class. I'd love to see Pyne make it out on the camp circuit to a Rivals camp, The Opening regionals and others to see what he can do against better talent (I know he struggled against bad talent, but maybe he's improved this winter and spring or maybe he was injured, idk). Either way, it is nice to see an OLine coach who really likes to hit the trail hard and go after the big guys. Harry went after the dudes too, but you hear much more about Jeff Quinn on the trail than Harry for whatever reason.

Would be nice to have 2 pure LT who could swing to RT a pure guard and a swing RT/guard type. 4 may be pushing it though.

Still like Tosh and Christ better

He played mostly OC last year, which I did not know.

Maybe they've changed their mind about Zeke at OC long term or is this just competition/depth at OC/OG?

Osman Savage to Michigan. Wondering if Kalel Mullings is waiting to see if ND expands the board on LB. Maybe they will now that Asa is going to UW.
