There's an old football story probably as old as the Rockne era that comes to mind.

BK was asked if they'd target anyone for February. He said if they did it would be on the offensive side of the ball. Not sure if this plays into the mystery recruit or not.

With this info and knowing we tried to flip an OL, does that indicate OL is the only position we would be actively recruiting?

On one hand, that would be amazing because he would really be in position to compete for a spot in 2021 if Book is back next year.

On the other hand, it would be pretty shitty to have him come in the same class as Pyne right after Pyne signed. I would bet Drew would still want to come, but if this is happening I would hope the coaching staff has at least talked to him about it.

If this is happening it could also explain the QB recruiting so far. We haven't offered anyone in 2022 and I think the staff has been following a couple new 2021 QBs. This would be a big enough shake up that a lot of the recruitments could change.

I don't understand how we'd talk Buchner into enrolling a year early when he's not even committed to EEing yet.

If there is any truth to this at all, it might be that the staff discussed it as a contingency in case Book surprises everyone and leaves for the NFL. PJ, Clark, and Pyne would not be the most robust QB room.

I don't really remember how long. My initial conspiratorial thought was maybe they didn't like the '22s that were interested in them so they were thinking of taking a second '21 which would also be a safety net if Buchner re-injured his knee. More likely they were just keeping in contact so they aren't left out if Buchner isn't in the class. I mean they even had some '20 QB follows a while back even though we had Pyne already. Again, probably just out of an abundance of caution.

Wait, is that all they do to rank classes-just add the the grades of each player in the class?

That's crazy. Two FCS level recruits would be of more value than the best player in the country. I thought there was way more to their class ratings than just adding up each players grade.

No. Each recruit is given a point total based on their ranking. So the #1 recruit will have a higher individual point value than a #200 recruit. Ramon is rated high in the composite and so his point value moved us four spots.

I had no idea that our DB recruits had so much length. All three of Offord Bartleson and Lewis have elite length. Doesn’t mean it’ll translate but it’s a good point to start with.
