Didn't see a thread on here (surprising)... guess it's been on other boards where people have been talking about how his wife was killed in a car accident. Other driver was going 90+ MPH with a pet on her lap. For those that don't know who Monty Williams is, he's a former ND basketball player who was a 1st round NBA draft pick and has had a very successful coaching career since then... universally beloved in the league.

Anyways, watch this... powerful stuff:

Ingrid Lacy Notre Dame Class of 1993 Anthropology and Sociology.

She met her husband at a Notre Dame mixer when he was a freshman.

Great message. Never ceases to amaze me the depth of moral quality and spiritual clarity Notre Dame graduates exude.

God Bless him and everyone effected by this tragedy.

What a great ambassador, not just of faith or the University, but of life lived in grace and compassion.

God bless her, Monty and the erst of the family.

On a side rant, as much is written about the dangers of texting or talking on your phone while driving, no one ever says anything about people driving with dogs on the laps. This is every bit as dangerous if not more so. You have a live animal that can and will move around while on your lap. Should be laws against it.

One thing that has always bothered me are our drunk driving laws vis a vis other distracted/impaired driving laws. It's basically been proven that driving at a .08 is less dangerous than driving tired or texting or otherwise distracted... yet one is a felony that will get you jail time, and the other is -- at worst -- a slap on the wrist equivalent to a speeding ticket (unless you live in Alaska). Driving HAMMERED is a whole different story. But yeah, it's crazy how one selfish act can have such a profound and permanent impact.

Very sad story. He seems to be at peace which is the best you can hope for.

What a profound 7 minutes that is. I'm in awe that there are men of such strength and grace walking among us. I coached against Monty his freshman and sophomore years at ND, played some pick up with him too. This video isn't shocking as I remember him as a well spoken & mild mannered young man then too. The University of Notre Dame is to be congratulated for the hand it had in this man's development into what he is today. Absolutely outstanding.

May God's grace from this day forward be as bountiful towards Monty and his family as Monty's was in the face of this tragedy.

I am not, in any real sense, a Christian. I am not an anything, really. My only real spiritual belief is that I don’t fully understand the universe or our place in it, and I am willing to accept the fact that I never will. That is all beside the point, except I say it so I can say this: I don’t have a generally high opinion of Christianity or other religions because I find that their adherents are often judgmental and falsely righteous, and that many of their values are more harmful to humanity than helpful. However, when this is what people get out of their religion, I find it difficult to criticize:

...but let us not forget that there were two people in this situation, and that family needs prayer as well. And we have no ill will toward that family. In my house, we have a sign that says ‘As for me and my house, we will serve the lord.’ We cannot serve the lord if we don’t have a heart of forgiveness.

This is good. I don’t feel like I personally need a religion to know that this is how we should be with one another, but I’m glad that there are people using religion in the best possible way. If everyone's faith led them to this kind of clarity my opinions about faith in general would have to change.

Careful Rhode... This is how God creeps into your life, disguised as grace & compassion in times of hardship. As you grow older you get more and more open to the fact that maybe this God thing is just goodness shared between people and / or a place of comfort in a world full of chaos. Before you know it, you don't see it as hocus pocus any longer and you're sitting in church on Sunday with family and friends with the DVR taking care of the Patriots until you get home at halftime. It's happens to the best...and worst...of them.
