1. Notre Dame is VERY LUCKY Louisville shot themselves in the foot as often as they did. Five fumbles, a handful of big drops, and a lot of penalties.
2. After the first two drives, ND's defense did their job. A lot of that was Louisville failing to execute, but credit where credit is due to Lea for making adjustments after the first quarter and getting the linebackers to play better. The secondary really wasn't tested tonight, but overall I am quite concerned about the play of the front seven.
3. The passing game is a joke. This is what we saw against Pittsburgh, Clemson, etc. last year. If you force Book to throw from the pocket he will panic and tuck it, or he will miss. No vertical passing game whatsoever so teams can run-blitz with impunity. 14 of 23 for less than 200 yards against Louisville is crazy.
4. ND is going to be able to run the ball as long as the passing game is a threat to keep the opponent offense. When they weren't attacking the line of scrimmage, the ND OL opened up big holes. When they did attack the line of scrimmage, there were too many people to block. It's really that simple. ND is going nowhere unless the passing game improves.
5. A win is a win and ND only came up about 3 points short of the spread. Oh well, it could've been worse. The troubling thing is how "bad" ND looked at times, and how the score is mostly a product of fortunate breaks more than dominance on the field. ND has two weeks to figure out its shit before they play a team where a blown run fit = a TD, and where the lack of a vertical passing game means you are not scoring points.
