Run D bad. Run O pretty good. I will say that that Louisville is probably much better than last year.

Grey was right,... I’m too up to go to sleep on a work night,... sucks. Would have been better to have it start a couple hours earlier on a holiday

Settled down in the second half.
Book got more comfortable and stood in the pocket.
TJJr looked better
Thought some of the LBs got better as the game went on (doesn’t mean they were good)
Claypool is dangerous with the ball.
Can’t be jumping offsides.
MISSED TACKLES.
Thought the line did alright. Not where we want them, but not bad.
Special teams did well.
I thought Tremble really showed out today. Pleasant surprise.
Great adjustments by Lea, but again those missed tackles hurt at time.

Hoping UL gets bowl eligible.

Want to see Book pass more, takes off running way to quick

Where did Finke disappear to?

D started very slow but adjusted very nice, but still has to work on the middle of the field.

The way our defense adjusted and rolled out line upon line of talented players inspired confidence.
Our passing game did not.

.

There were moments I thought I was watching Brandon Wimbush in the pocket.
Book got better as the game went one. But did he attempt a pass more than 20 yards downfield? And if he didn’t it wasn’t really because of Louisville’s pressure.

One big reason Book ran so much, was because the LBers kept clearing out.

Book's pocket presence is non-existent. It's going to be a long season if he doesn't sack up and stay in the pocket and make his progressions.

That was about as ‘Notre Dame with high expectations’ as it could possibly have been,...

1. Notre Dame is VERY LUCKY Louisville shot themselves in the foot as often as they did. Five fumbles, a handful of big drops, and a lot of penalties.
2. After the first two drives, ND's defense did their job. A lot of that was Louisville failing to execute, but credit where credit is due to Lea for making adjustments after the first quarter and getting the linebackers to play better. The secondary really wasn't tested tonight, but overall I am quite concerned about the play of the front seven.
3. The passing game is a joke. This is what we saw against Pittsburgh, Clemson, etc. last year. If you force Book to throw from the pocket he will panic and tuck it, or he will miss. No vertical passing game whatsoever so teams can run-blitz with impunity. 14 of 23 for less than 200 yards against Louisville is crazy.
4. ND is going to be able to run the ball as long as the passing game is a threat to keep the opponent offense. When they weren't attacking the line of scrimmage, the ND OL opened up big holes. When they did attack the line of scrimmage, there were too many people to block. It's really that simple. ND is going nowhere unless the passing game improves.
5. A win is a win and ND only came up about 3 points short of the spread. Oh well, it could've been worse. The troubling thing is how "bad" ND looked at times, and how the score is mostly a product of fortunate breaks more than dominance on the field. ND has two weeks to figure out its shit before they play a team where a blown run fit = a TD, and where the lack of a vertical passing game means you are not scoring points.

To me a lot of the guys looked undersized (White, Ogundeji, Tremble, even Owusu) so you would expect the speed to be there, but Louisville looked faster especially on offense.

Yeah he looked like a Freshman early in the game. Hopefully it was just first game jitters.

It’s a W. I’ll take it but it wasn’t pretty on both sides of the ball. Book shouldn’t have struggled like he did but I’m confident from seeing him previously that he’ll be able to turn it around.

Also adding: Tony Jones no longer is fat and looks like he could be a really good back this year

-Hamilton was good.
-Tony Jones looked fresh and ready.
-The Defense staff buckled down.
-Special teams didn't hurt us
-Book's running ability
-Tremble's pass catching ability.

Bad
-Book was like a freshman.
-The run defense with the options
-Bilal was just bad.
-Tackling
-Play calling
-LB's look slow

We won had some good. However we have a lot of work to do. I don't think we have a chance against Georgia.

What worries me is that ultimately we won because Louisville committed five turnovers, and generously we caused two of them.

In other words, it's sheer luck that we aren't talking about a Louisville win, or Notre Dame barely pulling out the win.

Before I thought our floor was 8-4, now realistically it's 6-6. Granted, that's out FLOOR, we'll probably outplay it by at least two wins. But we need to shape up a lot of things if this season is going to be a good one.

The other bad is Jafar, Claypool, and Pride all got hurt and never came back in.

Yay.

Way to underperform to the degree that 2 of these 3 shouldn't have been in anyways.

Very happy with how the defense responded after the first two drives, although I'm not sure how much of it had to do with the UL offense being terrible.

Bilal is awful, White should not be getting so many snaps either but he at least made some plays. JOK flashed here and there. Considering how many LBs are in the rotation and their general level of play, Bauer and Jon Jones must really suck.

Nervous to see how Hinish holds up against UGA.

Didn't see Houston Griffith get a single snap?

We all saw Book out there, won't belabor the point. Second year QBs under Kelly :(

Jones lost a few pounds and it made a difference. Had an extra bit of burst out there.

Really disappointed with the WRs lack of ability to create separation and get open.

Tremble and Hamilton looked real good on their debuts! Lacey got a ton of snaps. Keys had a couple nice plays including that terrific snag but Book either throws that short crossing route or scrambles so idk if he was as poor at getting open as it seemed.

Who would have thunk after the first game the only thing I saw that made me feel comfortable was Doerer's kicking. That tells you everything you need to know!

Positive Thinking:

- Louisville’s pass defense last year was the highest ranked thing of their entire awful defense. They weren’t that good but it was their best thing so maybe that affected the throwing (it shouldn’t if ND is the real deal)

- It’s the first game of the season and hard to prep for App St’s HC and his offense. He was dynamite at App St last year so 17 points isn’t bad to hold them to

- I think Louisville will be a bowl team this year and playing in front of a sold out crowd and winning 35-17 is not so bad

The special teams, in general, were excellent with no gaffes.

Game ball goes to Tony Jones. One of his best games in an Irish uniform. Looks much quicker than before.
