And VT just beat Michigan State.

I really, really, really hope we find our offense. This is the type of year you could get in as a #10 seed and make a run in the tournament.

Unreal.

I give Rex grief, but man, he made some huge plays. He has limitations, but he just plays so freaking hard.

Gibbs and Hubb have to really pull their heads out of their butts.

Hopefully that shot wakes Laz up. He is 6'10, has played pretty good interior defense, has shown he can take it to the hole. If he can be a 3 level scorer, that can give our guards some wide open looks to throw the ball off the side of the backboard.

Caught me off guard and now I am crying from laughing so hard.

I have us 0 for ACC until I see the shooting get to at least mediocre. Just hard to watch an ND team shoot so poorly so consistently.

This was a good one to watch then. Up 20 with 7 to go on Fairleigh Dickinson.

Shot the ball very well. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say Goodwin is currently our most reliable shooter. Man is he playing well. Same with Rex.

I'll probably say this every game, but Laz made his first one, then missed his next 4. But he played hard inside. If he can ever start consistently hitting shots...

My one concern, and it's been building the last few days against inferior opponents (except Toledo, who just choked) is that our guards just can not stay in front of people. Hubb, Gibbs, Carmody, and Goodwin have struggled.

Our next two games are against teams with much better lead guards with Cowan at Maryland and Thornton at BC.

Look really good today. Hopefully we can keep this hot shooting going into Maryland. That would be an unbelievable upset

Liked what I saw tonight, especially Laz and Goodwin. FDU looked bad but they have some talent and made the NCAA last year. If we can hit some outside shots we'll be OK. The rest of the stuff (defense, rebounding, effort) are there and they take care of the ball reasonably well.

Ya it’s surprising that we actually can rebound now. Like I’ve said before Laz is the key. If he looks like he did today and actually hit shots then we can be good to possibly very good.

Maryland will be a fun game to watch

Also it’s really nice to see Durham what he can do when he gets more then 20 mins a game. 7 OFF rebs today

#1 Duke was just beat by Stephen F. Austin at the buzzer in OT.

Tuesday night's loss to the Lumberjacks is the first time Duke has lost a nonconference home game since 2000, and the first time in 13,473 days (1983!) since it has lost to an unranked mid-major team.

Meh, they'll reload nicely with the two recruits coming in next year.

No harm, no foul.

I just find it odd that the redheaded stepchild of that recruiting class is transferring. He had to know coming in he was a role player at best.

Pretty sure I will need to keep liquor nearby to try and watch this game.

I think he had problems adjusting his first summer and Brey let him go back home so he could figure things out. Some wondered if he would transfer then.

I was considering putting a few shekels down on the Irish tonight to cover the 9.5 spread...but then I saw Sagarin had it rated it as a 29 point spread in favor of Maryland!

That enough has scared me away....anyone who has been watching the team more closely this first few weeks think we have a chance to keep it close tonight?

I watched Maryland play Harvard over the holiday weekend and was not blown away by their ability, but I understand playing them in College Park is a whole different beast.

It really depends on our ability to shoot. If we can shoot at the clip that we are used to seeing under Brey before last year, then we certainly have a chance, if we shoot at the clip that we did last year and this year (in most games), then we may very well get blown out.

"Brey let him go back home" is an understatement. Doherty's mother drove to South Bend to get him and drive him home. Doherty lived with his Grandparents while he was being recruited. Petty easy to connect the dots here.

Surprised he lasted this long. Wish Brey had played him more but it probably wouldn't have mattered.

Maryland the first 7 games, we had a better than average chance to keep the game real close.

Maryland the way they played against Marquette, we have to play really well to even be in it at the end.

They have men. Big, athletic men. I'm a bit worried that TJ, Rex, Carmody and Goodwin are going to be bullied a bit. The big twins (can't remember their last name) and Smith kid can be really good, but I'm more worried about how we hold up on the perimeter.

Sorry Rex. I complimented you last game, but you are completely piss poor this one. If I hear anyone else call him a "great" defender, I'm going to play the last play of the half on loop for you. Lazy effort, no box out, follow-up dunk.

Our offense has been unwatchable for 2 1/2 years

It's simply amazing how our guards have literally zero feel for our motion offense.

Laz set a high ball screen and faded to the top of the key. I'm not sure who it was, but which ever guard it was just put his head down and dribbled slowly to TJ in the corner. Laz's defender had gotten caught up in help, and he was standing there by himself. A quick reversal is a wide open shot (notice I said shot, not points. We don't make shots).

Jimmy Dykes is exactly right. We have no one that can go around a Maryland defender. There are a lot of good Notre Dame teams that may have only had 1 guy that could. But we ran offense. More specifically, we read the defense. We don't do that anymore.

Screw it, play Carmody, Goodwin and Laz as much as possible. It's really hard watching our current perimeter.

Done watching this one. If Brey is going to keep Hubb on the court with the little effort he is putting forth, no reason to watch. Edit: That and we are awful offensively. Got my hopes up playing against inferior competition. Against the big boys, nope.

Hubb playing like molasses now after playing so poorly. Was flatfooted and watched a guy dribble past him to the hoop.

Just pathetic body language I feel like. He looks like he wants nothing to do with this Maryland squad.

To your point, we've never had a ton of athletes, we've always had a pretty good offense.

Did losing Inglesby as an assistant have much of an impact?

On the plus side, I went 5/5 on the early games (was a little worried about the over on UVA/Purdue for a bit).

So, ray of sunshine.

Gibbs 0/11 shooting.

MVP

Carmody? Looked like a knee injury to me.

Gibbs has regressed so much it’s depressing.

This is the 3rd year In a row we have had a season ending injury before the new fucking year. It’s starting to just get so unfair.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This team is not a brey team by any means. We have zero flow. Our offense goes stagnant for minutes on end. Shooting is atrocious.

It’s honestly so depressing watching this team. I don’t see this team getting any better next year either. We have ZERO athleticism on this team ZERO!! No one can take over the game like bonzie or grant or even create their own shots

I don’t know what will help this team idk and idk if I even want to watch this team unless something drastically changes

Rough night. Pflueger and Gibbs a combined 0-13 in combined 54 minutes...
Add in 0-3 from Laszewski in another 17 minutes. At least he got 6 boards.

Rougher for the ACC though. PU and OSU with big wins. IU with a nice one last night. All by a bunch of points.

Poor Carmody can’t catch a break. From the looks of it, he could have a tough time coming back from this injury. I think it’s more than an ACL.
