he was born in the bronx, raised in queens, and then

sounds like he's just a NY lover / ND hater, and might know more about fashion than sports.

I don’t think he’s an ND hater. I remember when he had a studio show and had Holtz & Weis on stage (pre-2007) to discuss the history & “resurgence” of ND football. So compared to the majority of ESPN on-air talent...he’s far from a hater.

I think he got his start as an NBA beat writer in Philly covering the Sixers. He is proud of is fashion sense...no question. Big Tom Ford guy.

I like the thought of both being on the field in certain packages... get creative,... not sure I liked it on our own five yard line or whatever it was...

Listened to Dino Babers postgame conference. I really like him. Very gracious. Good insight given when asked to compare us to Clemson.

I was just coming in here to say the same thing. I'm watching his presser now. I've got a lot of respect for him now. Seems like a good guy.

Babers is nothing less than a CLASS ACT! I'm more than impressed with the way he not only handled himself under duress with some odd questions. He also showed a very good demeanor when talking about his guys in their maturation.

I like Cole Kmet. Got a nicecatch. He is going to be another great tight end for ND, IMO.
Also like Finke returning punts. Might break one against USC next week.

The Irish have a championship dline. Even Kurt Hinnish getiing sacks.
Beat SC !

After some time to digest, here is what's concerning:

OL - we can't have false starts against better teams and we need to be better about opening up holes in the run game. Syracuse collapsed the interior and we did nothing to counter.

Many of our rushing yards were tallied after Wimbush came in (if I remember correctly).

Boykin - it's not a trend so it's not terribly worrisome but he can't have drops like that. He killed at least one drive, maybe 2. Can't leave points on the field like that.

I'm giving Wright a pass on that hold. He should've let go and continued driving. Don't do it again.

Offensive play calling in the red zone was bizarre. (outside of Jafar's TD).

Other than that, great game. Defense was really locked in and offense found enough rhythm to put points on the board.

Seriously, clean it up and go win a championship. That’s not an unrealistic goal anymore. We can go toe to toe with anybody.

Also the ar15s are way overrated anyway. Unless you wanna drop 3500 on one they went out shoot a 700.00 model 700 remington.
I have a couple and they are fun to shoot 50 times at nothing but if you wanna actually try to shoot at 300 yemards they just dont pattern well.

You don't shoot zombies at 300 yards.

I actually like that we messed some things up yesterday. This week everyone should be laser focused on cleaning up and getting ready to take it to SC. Take nothing for granted.

Should have put up between 48-52, but I'll take 36 when the D plays as lights out as it did. No doubt Cuse would have been more competitive with Dungey, but I don't believe they would have made it a game with him.

THOUGHTS:

* The backs, while not producing huge stats (play calling or O-line?), looked good. Pleasantly surprised with what TJJ showed.

* Boykins drops were a tad disconcerting; killed at least one drive. Claypool continues to emerge - couldn't come at a better time. Finke continues to be a tremendous asset; more than any of us could have hoped for. TEs came through when needed. Again. Felt like there were 2-3 times that we were a shoe-string-tackle-breaking away from a HUGE gain.

* Yoon -- good on FGs, (intentionally?) bad on kickoffs. Cuse was the #1 STs unit in the country coming into this game. Why the fack couldn't we boot the ball at least into the endzone, if not out of it??

* D/Lea -- good Lord, it looked like they were dialed in and having fun. Not sure if this is Lea just evolving or if this game truly had a vengeance theme for him, but me likey. That D we saw last night can hang with anyone in the country.

* O-line -- *puke* do better. All these stupid penalites are eventually going to cost us a game. Also need to do a better job with run blocking.

* ST -- see Yoon; also, unit as a whole didn't do anything overtly stupid today. For once. Guess that's a good thing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Was thinking we'd win by ~10 with a late score, couldn't be happier with 30+ point victory!

I think my favorite playcall of the BK era was the fake pitch misdirection that Armstrong could have walked in. More of that please.

This is not true. I’ve got several 15s that I have less than a 1k in that’ll bang steel at 300 all day.

I agree w this assessment. Love the D, disappointed by the penalties and general self inflicted wounds that backed up and ultimately turned potential TD drives into FG's. The head scratcher for me yesterday was when they got cute and put Wimbush in the backfield as a RB. Don't do it. That's when injuries occur and big problems result. There is a great stable of backs, use them not the back up QB in that spot.

I echo what you post here^. I was really hopeful the OL had turned a corner after the FSU performance. To take a step back vs an inferior run D is worrisome. Makes me think ND was able to excel at running the ball last week b/c they had a running QB in w/ BW & they had to account for him as well. Also, they may have been protecting Book by limiting his runs as well...let’s hope that’s the case. Overall, the OL is not good enough to win a NC IMO.

The defense has also struggled stopping the run. Was that b/c SU spreads defenses out thus opening more running lanes? I don’t know but SU’s only success was on the ground.

The secondary played their best game of the season. Wow, they were swarming all over the place. Pass rush was looking good as well. Finke & Claypool really showed off their ball skills. Boykin had some drops but as mentioned, hasn’t been a trend & he bounced back late on a key drive.

Gotta admit...they grew on me. Loved the helmets from the original release of them on media. Thought the pinstripes on jersey sleeves as well as pants was a bit much...but I ended up liking the overall look.

I had forgotten how much the ND baseball team’s home unis resembled the Yanks home pinstripes. Someone posted some pics of Craig Counsell & Golden Tate in the pinstripes and they were spot on.

My biggest issue with the two QB look was more that we used it this game at all. Not against it, but why not save it for a playoff game when something is actually on the line? At the very least could cause Clemson or Bama to have to burn a timeout. Using it in a game that was well in hand seemed silly to me.

I think I might be the only one not too worried about the OL. They kept Book upright (I can’t even tell you when Syracuse got their two sacks). I really have a hard time seeing what Hainsey has been doing to get these calls. Is he flinching? Is he rocking? I don’t see anything.

Even when the rushing offense didn’t have a great night we still had over 175 yards on the ground. That’s pretty good for all the complaining.

I do think the red zone offense needs to sure things up. Could have buried Syracuse within the first half.

I liked what CL did with the running backs last night. I enjoyed that angle route by Dex for the first score. Also, that Sally play on Jafar’s TD was awesome. Throwback to some Wing-T teams.

You're not. FSU was a glimpse at what they can do when they are on their game. FSU had been a b!tch against the run all season and ND punked em. Yesterday they held AJ Dillon to 3.1 ypc on 37 carries, held BC to 2.1 overall.

I think they are good enough to hold up vs Clemson & Bama if BK & CL call a good game.

Ass Whooping. Monumental change in my opinion.

Potentially a championship team.

Agreed..even though we dropped at least 2 touchdowns..just need to polish a few things but for the first time yesterday I saw the glimpses of what could be..go Irish..happy fan here.

Post Game Thoughts:
1) Of the top 4 current playoff teams I think ND made the most statement win this weekend.
2) I thought our safeties played excellent yesterday, nice to see that position on the rise. Gillman seems to be in on every play and Elliott has been a nice surprise this year.
3) Like everyone else has said about the mistakes of the offensive line and the drops by Boykin those are easy fixes.
4) Nice game by Kurt Hinish yesterday, looks like Syracuse held him all day.
5) We played championship defense yesterday; for sure we lose Tillery, Coney, and Tranquil...they can be scary damn good next year.
6) Nice mix of the running backs yesterday, they all performed well. Dex, Jones Jr., and Armstrong all bring a different game.
7) This is one of the best coaching staff's we've had in a long time. Kelly's signed until 2021? Give him a 3 yr. extension. I don't know how long Clark Lea is signed until, but I'd offer him a nice extension.
8) Beat SC!!

Go Irish!!

If Condelezza Rice gets an interview for the Browns job, Terry Joseph should run for President in '20.
