Plus it looks like we could have a coaching upgrade at OL

Hiestand was the best in the business. After losing him, Q and McG, we'll definitely be taking a step back on the OL. The only question is how big.

I'm all for #Quinning, but I think that's a farther-fetched hope than "BW all of a sudden has it!".

I believe we will not see a drop off in performance that many expected, and I think we'll at least maintain our OL recruiting.

But to expect a performance upgrade at OL coaching is arguably impossible at any school if HH is the one who left, let alone Quinn who hasn't coached in how long?

I do think we'll be just fine and OL will still be a strength over the next ~3 years, but I do not expect the coaching to be better. I would be very happy if it was the same.

Are you sure? I loved HH and hated to see him leave, but there were some who had concerns when HH came aboard. His record prior to ND didn't look that impressive, but all of a sudden he's the best or one of the best OL coaches out there? His success may be more due to the talent he got to coach at ND, which Quinn will have. One thing I've learned a long time ago, is that there are a lot of quality position coaches out there.

IDk, I guess IDC what he did prior to ND, but I think almost all have him in the top 3 OL of CFB the past few years... If not #1 outright.

Wouldn't you agree?

So there would be no step back on OL if Hiestand was still OL coach?

There obviously would be, but he was a huge part of why our OL has been so dominant recently. His departure compounds the loss of Q and McG this year. Quinn has fortunately been able to maintain our recruiting momentum on that front, but pretending that he's an upgrade over Harry is just blowing sunshine at this point.

Then why concerns about Quinn? I seriously doubt HH was a much different coach at ND than he was at Tennessee.

I went with 11-2. (1 reg season loss/ loss in playoff round 1)
We go 2-1 against UM/ Stanford/ USC.
My biggest concern is against a healthy USC at the end of the season. UM has some major offensive question marks, Stanford has USC, UC Davids, and Oregon before traveling to ND.
FSU plays Miami, WF, Clemons, NC State before traveling to SB I like our chances.
I am not sure VA Tech will be able to field a full team by the time ND gets there.

NW will be a tough game too. A week after we play Navy. Aside from that, NW was a 10 win team last year, and is great against the run. The good thing, is that they play Wiscy the week before.

I went 8-5 because I think a 4 loss regular season is the most likely scenario after which the bowl is a crapshoot based on opponent and whether or not the team is unmotivated and playing for an interim coach.

How's your mullet looking?

Hold your wad there fella. You've been on the board long enough to know this poster wasn't originally DDI. He's no ND Nation asshole.

The flow is long, feathered and deadly. It's been banned in 37 countries including Norway and the Virgin Islands.

I was worried about NW too, but then I looked at their 5 games leading into the ND game, UM, MSU, Neb, Rutgers and Wisky, ouch!
That is a very very difficult stretch with no bye weeks, injuries will take their toll by the time ND game comes around and ND will escape with a win.
I know it’s after Navy so it won’t be a guaranteed win, but I think the boys can gut one out.

Depends on the QB position. If BK has a quick hook....10-3.

If he lets Wimbush struggle 8-5

Agree here. 100%.

Believe it or not, one game that has me slightly worried is Pitt in mid-October. Maybe I just have a long memory of the 3OT game in 2012, but that is a program that always gets up to play us, and we always seem to play down to their talent level. Add on the fact that no one has discussed this game even once so far to my knowledge has me worried that we will look at this game as a given, and our inevitable struggle against the Panthers will ensue.

Even worse was 2013 when they actually beat us. That game still gives me hives just thinking about it.

I like to think we have the depth up front on defense this year that we can play some backups against Navy and minimize the pounding on our top guys. But that is a physical stretch of games from Navy to FSU, for sure.

Yeah good call, and that game will always be plagued by the absolute Bull $hit call on Tuitt. Tom Savage is the one who lowered his helmet and initiated the helmet to helmet. I was outraged.

But to further prove my point...Why can't we just blow Pitt out for once? Hope it's this year. Even in 2015, we had them blown out then a REALLY weird 4th Q made me have a nervous.

There have been a few games that stand out over the years as the one(s) that drove me to my current state of semi-apathy, and this one is way up there.

I think ND loses 1-2 games.

I do not think ND loses to Michigan-- I think they'll be ready and I hope to say Elko who??

USC on the road is always tough, but I think ND can beat a QB who should still be in high school.

The last 3 games concern me with travel-- FSU @ home, then to NY, and then half way across the country to CA.

My trap game is Pitt-- they seem to be up for big games, they beat Miami last year and Clemson the year before. Last time we played them at Pitt we won with our kicking game.

I would be concerned about our O-line if Quinn had no experience within the program.

If Wimbush can take control of the offense then they have potential to take off. I said this before and I'll say it again I like Ian Book as our back up QB.

I like the new redshirt rule and I think a lot of our young guys have potential to play a good back up role.

I love it how we are already getting rid of Kelly, let me guess should we go after PJ Fleck who has done $hit for Minnesota?

5 losses and a victory vs Stanford?

Probably a better chance of a UFO landing in your yard with Elvis & Bigfoot at the controls.

I see 0 chance of this happening. That's an embarrassing prediction

It’s not like I want it to happen but as I went through the schedule it’s how it came out. VT’s environment is going to be a bitch like Miami’s last year and USC is going to want some serious revenge. Michigan is a toss up and so is Stanford. NW just felt like the type of game ND would lose under Kelly because it will be their super bowl. Not sure how it’s embarrassing to be honest. I am worried about the oline, Wimbush and the lack of a true #1 RB. I hope to hell I am wrong.
