Notre Dame will get a shot at defensive end Kingsley Enagbare in November, as the 6-foot-4, 257-pound strong-side defensive end has booked an official visit to South Bend.
Defensive end recruiting has been an uphill battle for Notre Dame this cycle. Although Enagbare is committed to South Carolina, his plan to take an official visit is certainly welcome news for the Irish.
“I have an official visit set (to Notre Dame) on November 18,” Enagbare said. “I’m going with my mom, my brother and my godfather. I just want to see the overall feel of the campus, the feel from the coaches, how they run their system."
Enagbare earned an offer from the Irish on October 6. But according to Enagbare, Notre Dame has been in contact with the three-star end for months.
“Things have been going good with Notre Dame, we’ve been speaking quite often since they offered,” Enagbare said. “And before they offered, we were talking every now and then.
“I’ve been speaking with their defensive line coach and one of their recruiting assistants. Mike Elston, as far as I can tell, he’s a pretty cool guy and he wants me there.”
The dominant play of Notre Dame this fall has caught Enagbare’s attention, putting the official visit wheels in motion for the Georgia product.
“I have no choice but to like (Notre Dame),” Enagbare said. “They’re high on education and they’re (ranked) No. 5 in the nation. I have no choice but to entertain them.”
Pulling Enagbare from his South Carolina commitment will be no easy task. But the Irish won’t be competing with a large pool of programs for his pledge.
"(Other than South Carolina), I’m only speaking to Notre Dame, honestly,” Enagbare said. “When I committed, I pretty much stopped talking to all the other schools. And the only reason I’m entertaining them is because they offered late and they have such a good school.
“Right now, I’m 100-percent committed (to South Carolina). But, I want to look at every option, look at every school.”
With defensive ends Jayson Oweh and Joseph Ossai likely out of the equation for the Irish, getting a tall, long, productive defensive end to campus for an official this fall can be marked as a win for Notre Dame.
The Irish gave Enagbare his 18th offer, with Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, and Wake Forest among his other top offers.
Enagbare ranks as the No. 579 overall prospect and No. 27 strong-side defensive end in the 2018 class.
