Ok then, between 2015 and 2016
Corey Robinson
Steve Elmer
Max Redfield
Grant Blankenship
Doug Randolph
Mykelti Williams
Tyler Luatua (and then he came back and never played)
Plus all the guys who went pro.

There's probably a couple more I'm missing. We lose plenty every year.

As I said, I'm not talking about guys going pro. That's separate from what I said, and I took time to note them separately. That is 6 leavers that fit the criteria, and answers my question about what it would take to get to 22. Had forgotten that Randolph and Blakenship weren't already out of the program.

What 'shade said. We'd be nuts not to ask back Bonner and Hayes. True they haven't done a whole lot to date (in very limited playing time and last year's schematic confusion) but they've both got two years of eligibility yet. We are always short quality depth on the defensive line and they'll both be physically mature, experienced players at a position where that stuff matters. More likely to help us in 2018 than our typical d-line recruit, for sure.

We are actually heavy on numbers for the DL. Counting signees last class, we have 18 scholarship DL on the roster... that means we're 4+ deep on the DL. Given expected signees for the '18 class, we'll still be 4 deep on the DL without Jay Hayes or Bonner.

Is there any other position where you'd ask back players who don't contribute when you're 4 deep without them?

Obviously, if Jay Hayes and Bonner start playing a lot of meaningful snaps then of course you'd ask them back... but neither has regularly played 20% of snaps a game while they've been on campus.

It's a zero sum game. If you pass on a '18 recruit to have them back for another year, that means your kicking the recruiting can down the road and when the '18 kids are upperclassmen you'll have have one less developed player because a few years previous you passed on a kid to bring back a guy that doesn't play. So that's why it's absolutely not a foregone conclusion both will be back. In fact, I'll bet either of you that at least one of them isn't.

'18 is not the year you skip on DT's. I've never seen a year where so many top DT's are from Irish friendly areas. In years past, this is a position that has has far to many recruits buried in SEC country and many of which didn't have ND, Duke & Stanford offers. They need to thin the heard and take advantage of a bumper crop like they did at OL last year. Would love to get Jayson Ademilola, PJ Mustipher and a 3rd. Doesn't have to be a High 4 per the services but a solid player. ND's in good shape with grossly undervalued Ja'Mion Franklin and there's a lot to love with his film

Here's a look at the Comp Top 9:

#1 - Taron Vincent
IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL)
**Irish friendly staff including Maurice Stovall and HC from Indiana

#2 - Tommy Togiai
Highland (Pocatello, ID)
**Tristen Hoge's HS

#3 - Josh Belk
Lewisville (Richburg, SC)
**Clemson Commit

#4 - Matthew Jones
Erasmus Hall (Brooklyn, NY)
**ND does very well with NY recruits they go after

#5 - Michael Thompson
Parkway North (Saint Louis, MO)
**Irish offered - Catholic School - Mizzou & Illinois weak

#6 - Austin Fontaine
DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD)
** The Godfather of Catholic Sports schools. '17 MBB basketball recruit DJ Harvey, Coach Brey, Adrian Dantley all alums

#7 - PJ Mustipher
McDonogh School (Owings Mills, MD)
** Obvious. Why isn't he committing? Not a year they need a Army Bowl announcement. It's a year where they build as a unit for the full year. Should we be worried?

#8 - Tyler Friday
Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, NJ)
** No idea why they haven't offered. Same great conference as the Ademilola Twins. ND should absolutely rake in this conference. A quarter of the general student body is from the conference. Italics?

#9 - Rick Sandidge
Concord (Concord, NC)
** ACC footprint. Duke offer. No ND offer. ND doing solid work in NC, have offered the Top 4 players ahead of Sandidge and probably lead for Hollifield.

Not sure why this question hasn't been more prevalent on here.

IMG stud from S. Carolina. Not getting any hopes up here, but it would be a great get.

There wasn't a profile for him yet so I thought I'd post it here. ND offered Eli'jah Winston today, OLB 6'4, 230. Lives in Portland, Ore. (Different school than Lenzy but they know each other).
His brother plays at Oregon so you have to like the chances of him going there.

Another fantastic post on Slap the Sign by Kevin.

Great info on the Ademilola twins, Shayne Simon and Brandon Wimbush. This could easily go in all 4 of their respective posts but I'll leave this here. And the what may have been had Minkah Fitzpatrick tipped over and decided to go to ND instead of Alabama, but I think he has done quite well for himself there.

As a SPP alum and NJ native, I think this would be a great area to develop a pipeline. Lots of high end talent that comes from New Jersey. Like the Ademilola twins, I also commuted in excess of an hour each way to school. Lots of pride here and happy to see!

A very noticeable new change to recruiting is how much contact the staff is having, mainly Elko, with players that don't even have offers yet. Clearly there has been a paradigm shift, in that they realize the importance of early communication/building relationships with players, even if they aren't the top of the board prospects. I believe BGI alone, has had 3 articles up on DB's that have been in active communication with Elko, and don't have offers. All it takes is an active recruiting staff, and it seems like we finally have one.

Same goes for Long and Alexander, but we haven't really struggled recruiting offense over the years, so its a much more stark change on defense.

i haven't been on much lately, but i haven't heard much in regards to recruits talking about him much...kind of shocked...but he has a proven track record in recruiting so i am not questioning it, just surprised

I was just wondering if WR board need re-evaluated yesterday. Seems like quite a few from last round of offers have started narrowing in on their choices and some have eliminated us.

Why the apostrophe? It makes zero sense.

This one makes more sense than a lot of them. This changes the name from being pronounced Cam-err-un and makes it simply Cam-Ron.

With Mabry and Dirksen committed and news of ND leading for Hayes and NPF, who plays guard out of this group?

Tough call because the staff was shooting for at least 2 tackle only prospects. I would think NPF is all tackle and from what I've seen, the other three seem like tackle options.

Ericson.

Out of the 4 you listed, it looks like Dirksen is the most guard like but who can ever tell with HH. He's a mad scientist.

Here's an interview that BGI did with Justin. It might not be a popular opinion, but I like him as a utility DB and he's obviously a fit off the field. With that said, I agree with the staff wanting to get eyes on him in person prior to an offer.
