Coleman was solid last year. Everybody was down on the safety spot because they didn't have any INT's. They tackled MUCH better last season as compared to '16.

This year, he's being mentioned at nickel / dime more so than Stud or Whip. He'll be in some sort of rotation with Crawford, Griffith, etc, based on opposition/scheme, down & distance.

Coleman seems like a natural nickel back. It's just hard for me to see how he gets on the field with a healthy Crawford there. Maybe ND is looking at playing more nickel since Rover is a big question mark?

If I remember correctly, ND was already in nickel/dime 60% of the time last year so it's important to have your sub-packages nailed down for the variables each down/opponent throws at you.

Putting Davis and Armstrong in the backfield together on either side of Wimbush could create some interestingggggg dynamics for defenses to worry about.

Put Boykin and Claypool on the outside with Mack or Kmet in the slot, and just absolutely wreak havoc on DB's with run-blocking on option plays. Then, when they load the box, go over top in 1-on-1 situations.

Or the more likely scenario: Wimbush fumbles the handoff to Armstrong and Davis whiffs the block, leading to a fumble returned for a touchdown

So, with Avery.

I'm, not one to say "wildcat / HB passes" but.... surely you'd take advantage of that skill set, right?

I love it.

I have concerns that the offense lacks the typical go to guys, at RB and WR, that you tend to lean on in certain situations. I could see that being a hindrance at times. But where I think we'll flourish is being versatile and creative on offense. Hopefully Long is up to the task.

How'd you know I was drinking an IPA?...

Cuz it's 4 pm on a workday.

If you're gonna tailgate at your cubicle, I know you wouldn't risk your gig over a domestic lager.

BTW... Cigar City Jai Alai here.

I walked to the WF behind the office actually. My boss has physical therapy on Thursdays after 2:30, so normally I take a nice long walk, but since I'm working past 5 today, I figured a beer was in order.

CC has really ramped up distribution. We just got their stuff about 4 months ago or so. Was it you who mentioned they're partnering up with another brewery?

I worry about the lack of typical go-to guys at RB far more than WR. Boykin and Young are steady, Claypool can be huge if he puts it together. And we’ve got tight ends. RB we’ll have to get creative, though hopefully the threat of Wimbush opens some holes.

In Kelly’s post practice presser, he said that the Jafar/Davis tandem could be more than just a package. Sounds like they’re going to continue to work that more and more this camp, to see if that can be more than 6 play/game.

They seem to really like Jafar back there. That’s good.

I'd really like to see Kmet be the go to "receiver".

Claypool looks to be a monster, let's hope the focus/effort is there every play/day now

Kelly raved about his physical condition and ability to sustain a high work rate.

I hope this is truth, and not him fluffing.
I want to be excited, but I've been concerned all year about the RB position.
As long as BW is effective throwing, I think we will be successful regardless of who is running.

Hopefully we do that with TEs, one attached, one flexed and one WR. That can be an incredibly deceptive formation. It pulls everything in and opens everything up for a big play, especially considering Avery Davis is well versed as a QB too.

This is the most excited I've been about a ND team in a long time.
If BW can throw, we're National Championship ceiling. If not, we'll have 3 or 4 losses.

I think we're really good, if not great, at every position on the field...including running back. BW can become a legend with this team.
