Wins a win

really wish we knew what we had in Robby, starting to see some great signs off/on from Nate, Dane, and Prentiss.

One would think he could one of the most talented, given he was the original frosh that was starting/minute receiver.

Did anyone else notice that when Nate went down, ND had Nate, Mooney, and Durham all out on the court at the same time?

Not sure I noticed that during the season. That's a big boy lineup.

I really wish we would have gotten that game at Pittsburgh now. Playing another zone team in Syracuse, if Nate plays, would give me a bit of hope.

Good that we found some offense of rhythm against the zone. But man do we look bad when a team gets in our face man to man. Of course, some of that will happen when you’re down to 6 guys.

Was listening on the radio and they were saying we pretty much went to the burn offense once we were up by 21 and knew that Nate wasn’t coming back. Just can’t be aggressive playing 5 the whole half.

This team has potential. They play very well most of the game and then can't finish. Luckily they were able to finish today. Reminds me of the 2016 football team. They lost a lot of games late after leading most of the game. They potentially return everyone. I think they'll surprise people next year

The team showed their potential and their youth as they let GT almost steal this game. Trying to milk they clock for as long as they did is hard to do, especially with a young team. The next 2-3 years should be pretty entertaining.

He'll be back. Just keep heat on it at HT so it doesn't tighten up.

He should go ice his knees That phrase never got anyone in trouble...or banned from Utah Jazz games for life....

They are 100% returning everyone. And that is huge. Especially with this confidence boost we are having right now

Lazewski was previously listed as a game time decision, but it looks like he is playing tonight.

I don’t suppose we’re still in the Burn, are we? (Edit: I hope this didn’t sound snarky. I was literally watching ESPN game cast while traveling, so I can’t tell).

We are a foul away from the bonus, I’m not above just driving each possession and acting like we got shot on our way to the hoop.

Will this team be .500 next year? Will they shoot 40% from the floor? That's some brick layin out there.

Bricks build a great foundation.

Tough season. Glad it's over, and optimistic about next year.

But after 2016 everyone wanted Brian Kelly's head on a platter. Is Mike Brey different? Why?

I don't think it should be different. He might need to do a program reboot like Kelly in 2016. This year was a disaster. Not sure how you can just say it is business as usual going into next year even if everyone is back. I wonder if Brey might have some new assistant coaches.

I do know he can't afford to go 3-15 again in the ACC or he will really be on the hot seat in 2021.

I'm actually "mildly" optimistic about next year, but I'd ask this.

Today we played a team with VJ King, a 5-start player that is a walking example of a player with high expectations that didn't meet them.

Based on what we saw this year, why are we optimistic? Is it because we saw improvement, flashes of good play, or star ratings?

We'll have more than six guys.... That gets me excited...

But for real, this team has been gassed all year. They were physically unprepared (Prentiss and DJ) playing through injuries (juwan and DJ) and watched one of their captains quit on the team and another tear his acl.

All of these frosh need to physically mature for college basketball. They're not strong enough or condiitoned enough yet. They can shoot the rock, but not when the gas tank is on E.

Tired, weak, and demoralized.

We've seen flashes periodically from all the freshmen. We get out true leader, Rex back. Tj can go back to #2 leader where he's more comfortable.

I predicted 6 acc wins this year, even with Elijah, Rex, and Robby.

This was a bad year that turned into a bigger disaster...

Next season is going to be better. How much, is the real question. Been dreading this year for the past couple of seasons, now I can be excited again for the future seasons coming up.

Because it will hard to be worse than last in ACC :)

Kelley has had top 10 recruiting classes on a regular basis and I doubt that is what Brey has been able to achieve. Nobody does more with less year in and year out than Brey does. Kelly has done well but hasn't een able to win the big game. Something Brey has struggled with in many of the tourneys where they were expected to do better (Big East years).

This. To say this team was hamstrung is a massive understatement.

This game, they effectively had 6 guys logging in major minutes, of which 2 shouldn't have been playing (Laz and Durham), and several guys shouldn't have had to be called upon (Goodwin and Hubb).

The only thing that defies logic for me is how this team ended up so bad shooting. I get the rebounding considering Laz is 6'10 and 200 lbs soaking wet, while Durham is very green in live contests and played on a sprained ankle for the last couple of months, but how do we end up with such porous overall shooting? Especially because if there was anything these freshmen did extremely well in HS it was shoot the ball.

I think he does a good job of getting the most out of his kids. My only beef with Brey is his recruiting. Way too inconsistent. I don't know if it's him, his assistants, facilities, admissions or what, but he needs to figure that piece out.

No one can argue that Notre Dame dealt with injuries this season. But, unfortunately, the guys that got hurt simply aren't that good at D1 basketball (besides Carmody). Even if they were healthy, I don't think this season was going to be any different than it was.

What? Who are you referring to by injuries? Rex isn't good? Nate, DJ, and Juwan's careers are over, write them off too...

That is an awful, awful take.

edit: Also, as much as I love Carmody (he is one my favorites), what has he proven to show that he is better than a Rex, DJ, Nate, etc?

Two reasons:

1) Conditioning - these frosh guys are not college S&C ready, they're playing catch up with the other athletes... Heck, even look at Big John's shooting percentage tank the last few games, perfect example of a great shooter that is gassed and shooting with spent legs.

2) Confidence - these frosh guys have been playing scared, mentally and physically. Look at the teams confidence drop off after Rex's injury. Once you're in your head, it's game over....Another upperclassmen example, TJ got into his head big time the 2nd half of the year, resulting in a huge drop off in percentage as well.

The stats are what they are. It was a bad shooting year, given the situation. But these kids are all good shooters. It will come with time and a culture/mentality/conditioning/bench depth reset.
