Schedule has 31 games plus conference tournament. I’m assuming if the 30 percent figure ended up being 9.4, it would get rounded up to 10 and he could still qualify.

This really sucks for Rex - I hope he comes back b/c I hate to see someone go out like that. Hubb is a great defender but he is a going to guard 1 or 2 - Rex would cover 2, 3 or 4 and shut them down. His ability to take guys out of games has just been remarkable and will be greatly missed. We will especially feel this in ACC play as he could be undersized but still take great offensive players out of the game. I wouldn't say him or Hubb is "better" so much as both are really good at different defensive assignments. Hubb slowing down a PG and pressuring the back court is different than Rex getting in to those flex players and covering anyone who is not a PG or C for the most part.

I disagree with some of the talk saying we are similar to Purdue. Maybe 6-7 years ago but not today. They have some pretty horrible players putting in tons of minutes. Completely riding the one football player's scoring and not a lot to talk about beyond him. We were a lot better than them and felt like our inexperience kept it closer than it should have been. These teams play again in March and I have no doubt we destroy them. We are only going to get better for the next four years.

If they count tournaments then he should be able to come back. But if only the 31 regular season games, I think he played just over 30%

On the bright side, if Rex can come back he gets a Notre Dame Masters degree at no cost to him.

Feel bad for him but this benefits the team long term and possibly even short term.

Couldn't disagree more. Who better for these young kids to learn from? Intangibles, show up every day, grind it out tough, team over self, don't let haters bring you down. Tremendous role model for these young guys not to mention practicing against his D to make them better.

Without Rex we don't have back to back Elite Eight runs. Is he or should he be a #1 or #2? No, but damn if I could find many starting lineups in the country that I wouldn't find a spot for him to make that team better, including this one.

He's alluding to young guns getting more experience/minutes. Which, I agree, will be gross positive. The net gain/loss? Not sure.

Net gain next year for sure (especially if he gets another year, that'd be a dope squad).

I know what he is alluding to. I know there are a few too many haters out there and not sure if he is one - I'm too lazy to stalk old posts.

All of our upside is attached to the young'uns - that has not changed and I agree this opens up 35 minutes a game for more baptism by fire. I am worried this will compound the pressure on TJ that he already has not been performing well under. Odds of things getting short term futt bugly are dramatically up whereas with Rex I was starting to feel like we had a shot at working our way into an NCAA bid. Right now we may end up with a better year end team but earlier losses are more likely to keep us out of contention (IMO).

You don't have to be on the court to mentor younger players and be a good role model. If anything getting injured and working hard to rehab your injury to potentially come back sets a better example than anything you can do on the court.

Meanwhile the younger players will see more minutes which is a good thing in a season that hasn't been going too well.

This is not beneficial in the short term, at all. We’ve already lost Burns and Carmody. Rex was showing signs of offensive improvement in the last two games to go with all the other ways he plays at a top level. We’re all of a sudden short on the bench and down are senior. I’d also say that 7-3 is not a bad start to the season for THIS team as it’s assembled.

Agreed. I feel bad for him. People have already chalked this season up as a "development" year, so this sure does benefit the younger guys.

Sorry I forgot to stop by last night and wish everyone a happy 30th Anniversary... The Miracle on High Street, later renamed the Lutheran Miracle celebrates Valpo's victory over Digger's 19th ranked Irish.

I was too busy watching the Crusaders lose to Ball St.

And yes, I am old.

Good thing coach usually only goes 7 or 8 deep. I do like the 8 we have but that's going to make a long season even longer for the new ones. I'm working on getting my ducks lined up to go back to school next semester and make it as a walk on. If anyone sees a middle aged overweight male on the bench soon, come say hello.

Tough loss at VT, but I think this will be good for us long term. Playing a old, talented team on the road even more short handed than usual (Djogo didn't make the trip).

We really need to win the next two at home to keep us from spiraling. We're a team that is going to get better as the season progresses, and the last part of our schedule (the last 10) contains a bunch of winnable games. Hopefully we can stay afloat in conference until then.

Watching Prentiss Hubb shoot is painful, at least Djogo's shots look like they have a chance of going in.

NOt sure I've seen it, but they just said that Rex would be back next year, which is great (double so since our recruiting has been a swing and miss).

Syracuse is hitting shots, which they haven't done all year. We're playing pretty decent defense, and they are rising up and hitting shots.

Good second half and we may pull this out.

On today’s broadcast against Syracuse, announcers reported that Rex will get a medical exemption and be back next year on the team.

Brey confirmed Rex will be back next year. That means everyone will return next year. This year is gonna be a rough year but it’s gonna be a lot of getting their chemistry right. Next year could be lethal

In a game we absolutely have to get...

Durham and Gibbs both out. We're playing with 6 guys today.

That said, we're playing tough. Hubb is playing well.

Can Kai Bowman grad transfer to ND once he graduates, please?

Edit: nevermind that wouldn’t work since he played his freshman year, duh.

What an ugly win, while Hubbs had a career high in points today I'd like to see him play more aggressive and drive more to the basket.

If Bill Walton shouldn't do UCLA games, Jay Bilas should not do Duke games. Good lord the stroking of Duke players is strong. I get the Zion love (kid is an athletic freak of nature), but the Jones kid "is the best defensive player in the country"?

Maybe he is, because him being amazing is the only way this team averages out to a "good" defensive team.

Barrett is not a good defensive player, and Zion basically plays zone trying to swat anything within 20 feet of him.
