Bill is terrible tonight. Worse than Flutie

Like FightingIrishLover7 said, it's just the perfect storm of crap for pissing off Irish fans. It's ND at UCLA. I watch way too much college basketball, and he makes those West Coast games watchable on many an occasion.

On a side note, Irish up 5.

This game is amazing.

Also, to all the Walton haters... This is what late night pac 12 basketball is... It's stand-up hour for espn... No one takes these games serious - signed someone who used to live out west.

Ouch, that sucked.

Hubb and Gibbs 6-26 or something like that, with just some awful decisions.

That dang TO on the handoff from DJ to Prentiss that went OOB hurt.

Really freaking proud of this young team though.

NYC to LA in three days, first real road environment, and losing to a last second 3?

Hell of a fight for a team so young and so physically outmatched from a talent/size perspective.

There's a tonnnn to correct. But, unfortunately, that takes time. Not everyone is Zion gifted at this age.

Prentiss seemed so damn composed and confident, even while shooting poorly... I wish for anything else that last play, but to know this 18 year old is THAT confident while having a poor shooting game? I love it.

Prentiss, Dane, and Nate all showed me some great stuff tonight. This team is going to be good for years to come.

Also, shout out to Rex for having one of his best games in a long time infornt of his friends and family (200 tickets???!!??)

When I lived in Seattle, if I wanted to watch games at night, this is what I got... BW makes boring games fun (especially if you're not invested and buzzed).

When he's calling ucla, it's ugly... When he's calling ND c ucla........ Yeah. Lol

Didn’t catch the game but did just look at the box score. Gibbs is having s very disappointing year. He is definitely the weak factor of what should be a strong part of the team.

He's clearly struggling with the adjustment of being #2 behind Matt.

He's compensating his poor decisions, by being overly aggressive on others.

The good news is, he still flashes brilliance at times.

As Prentiss grows, TJ will too. Once they both click (whether this year or next) they're going to be the best 1/2 since Jerian and Demetrius

I just cannot fathom anyone being entertained by Bill Walton, ever. The guy isn't funny, makes the dumbest comments on everything and thinks he is a freaking savant. Its just awkward and dumb with him doubling and tripling down on the most awkward and dumb moments.

Exactly, there was one point in the game where Bill was droning on for an entire possession by UCLA, not allowing the play by play to do his job. By the time he was done ND had gotten the ball and advanced to their side of the court for offense. Finally the play by play guy was able to chime in and after Bill took a breath and said" In other news, ND has the ball now and is looking to take the lead for the first time." The play by play guy had to constantly correct and keep Bill up to speed. There was another time when the play by play guy had to update Bill on who had the ball after a timeout occurred, and this was when the game was tied with under 30 seconds to go. That guy deserves a pay raise because whatever he is getting working with Bill is not enough

Brey is on Dakich. He is real upbeat about the youth on the team.

Anyone else going to be in attendance for the crossroad classic? Heading downtown Indy tomorrow after work. Oklahoma and UCLA experiences prove to be worthwhile and we'll have a chance to win at the end.

Yea, that really sucks for him. I've not been a fan of his play, but I do really appreciate how he plays.

Guess we get to watch next years team a bit early.

He's been shooting better as of late, and had a hell of a game today. Most years we wouldn't be able to deal with the loss of Burns, Carmody and Pflueger, from a numbers perspective, so squad depth is coming in clutch. Hope it wasn't as serious as it looked.

Shout out to all of Rex's haters (who are now going to say, well, I liked him but he...)

You're about to see how important he was to this team.

This is going to put DJ into a huge leadership position.

I don't wish anyone injured, and I don't dislike Rex.
Criticism is warranted for any player that has only shot above .375 in only 3 games, and made more than 2 baskets in only 3 games, given the minutes he's played.

DJ needs to be a leader regardless of Rex's situation. But nobody wants to see Rex out with injury.

Aside from the above silliness..... great win today.

Redshirt opportunity still possible for Rex? Anyone know? I think Brey would welcome him back with open arms and you know Rex would want to come back if given the opportunity.

Yep, he defends like no other on our team, he hustles, he rebounds, he gives it his all. Our defense is what has kept us in all of our games this year and he was having the best game of the season, the offense was flowing because of his play. This is a huge loss for the team.

I sure hope he has the opportunity to come back. Have zero clue about the number of games allowed in general, or medical situations.

Anyone?

Edit - found this

Medical Hardship Exemption
The NCAA allows a seriously injured athlete to extend her eligibility period through a medical hardship exemption, commonly referred to by media outlets as a "medical redshirt," though the NCAA does not use this terminology.

An athlete can qualify for this exemption if she has a documented, incapacitating injury or illness that occurred in the first half of the basketball season and the student-athlete has not participated in more than two contests or dates of competition or 20 percent of her team's scheduled contests, whichever number is greater.

Last year, without Bonzie Colson and Matt Farrell (our "leaders") we finished 32 in Adj Offense in Kenpom, and 68 defensively. A year many of us considered a major struggle to get the offense going.

This year, we are 42 and 73rd.

The idea that this is a massive loss suggests that our expectations should be lowered. If that's the case, what were the expectations? We were picked to finish 9th in the preseason ACC poll (and I'd argue they screwed up by putting L'ville behind us). It's easy to make these statements, look back at the end, and go, "See how much we missed Rex?".

You can sell me all day that losing Bonzie and Matt, just like Rex this year, hurt us because we lost leadership out on the court. Sure. But I'd say the more important factor in that was that we didn't have the players to fill the production gap, not the leadership roles. Not to mention the depth issues it caused. Same thing here. You lose leadership, but from a production view? Not real concerned.

From a person/student standpoint this sucks. He's a great ambassador for ND. He plays the game hard. You'll not see a question about his hustle. Seems like a wonderful kid. But do I think there is going to be some massive drop in overall production or stats for this team? No.

Edit: I'll add this.

If TJ, Mooney, and DJ all continue to get better (as well as the freshman), than the loss of Rex will be more profound. Rex as a 5th option, just playing defense is a very valuable contributor on both ends of the floor. Rex trying to be the second option (as he tried the first 6 games of the year) was pretty bad. Maybe that's the best way to describe Rex's contributions to this team. There is someone on this team better or potentially better at doing everything Rex does for the team. He isn't our best rebounder, but he'll rebound. I'll argue he isn't our best defender (I honestly believe that is Hubb at this point), but he's very good. He's not a consistent distributor (he makes some good decisions like today), but he can pass when he's not consistently handling the ball.

The loss will definitely impact us short term. Especially on D.
I expect the O to play a little different, but be stronger in the long run. Can the young guys step up? IDK.

First off, Ferrell wasn’t out that long, he played the majority of games for the Irish last season, so I take your stats with a grain of salt. Certainly Rex isn’t irreplaceable, no one ever is but this is a massive loss for THIS team precisely because it’s such a young team. Breys MO in every other year at ND besides this one is to play veteran players that have been in his system. That’s not the case this year with Pflueger being the only Senior. And your flat out wrong on Pflueger and his defensive capabilities. He’s the best on the team hands down and Brey has been saying it for two years. Either Goodwin or Laz will replace him and that’s a big step down for a team that needs stability. Will it help in the long run for the teams in the next two years? You could certainly make that case with the freshman getting more playing time as a result.
